Golden Sun: Dark Dawn/String Dump (Part 8)

From Golden Sun Universe

This reference page features cleaned-up versions of most of Golden Sun: Dark Dawn's in-game text strings that are expressed as dialogue. To facilitate legibility, all strings that are parts of either mandatory or otherwise significant cutscenes will list the characters speaking them in [Bold], whereas all optional strings will not list any character names. Instances of junk strings are also removed. Each collapsible section represents the contents of a different .dat1 file, the file name of which is listed in the title.

Harun Village and Warrior's Hill

Harun Village (msg_harn_vlg)

I'm amazed you made it all the way to Harun Island through the storm. What bravery!
Our village here is small, but you won't find another on the island. Welcome.

It is midday, but the Angaran mainland is dark, as if a fierce blizzard were blowing... Yet it is summer. Confusing.

The fishermen who traveled westward have not returned, and we are getting worried.

Is it so cold because Luna is somehow canceling out Sol?

The myths of Morgal include a story about the sun and a black star that defeats it.
Apparently the sun hides its face in shame, but that's all I remember. I'll have to ask Ikan, the storyteller.

Don't tell anyone, but the cave on the northwest part of the island is where we play when we're bored!

It's like someone put a lid over the sun! The mainland is all dark, and it's always night for parts of the island.

I barely escaped the mainland. Had I gone to the festival in Belinsk, I never would have made it.

Would you like to know more about the myths of Morgal?
You can hear folktales and such from the townspeople all around the region.
But if you're looking for history books, there aren't any, not even in Belinsk.
Yeah, I guess you're not exactly from around here. Why would you care about our myths?

Some beastmen only escaped whatever happened on the mainland because they were here. Frightening...

Th-the monsters just...show up out of the sh-shadows... They never stop following you...

Their ship crashed on a rock, and all those beastmen came asking for our help.
I have to say...they scared me. At first it looked like more monsters erupting out of the shadows.

Yes, we helped out some mainlanders, but that's what you do when people are in trouble. We don't need praise.

I'm supposed to be drying out this seaweed, but I'm not sure it'll ever dry in this weather...

This kid's from the mainland. He looks like a good warrior, so I'm pretty sure he's not a monster... Pretty sure.
But if I watch him too carefully, he'll know I'm watching him. I need to play it cool...

I can't believe what we saw on the mainland. But weird stuff is happening here too.
I saw a building appear on the mountain's summit, but it was gone by sunset. It must be related.

They left the island and headed west because they didn't know to be afraid of the shadows...yet.
I'm guessing the reason they're not back is that those awful things got them already.

It's freezing cold here, and we've still got some sunshine. What must it be like on the mainland?

I've heard all of Ikan's stories a thousand times by now, but I'm just no good at telling them myself.
He may be getting on in years, but he knows his craft, for sure.

Heeheehee! The storyteller told us about the secret paths all over the island!
I can hardly wait to try them out!

There's an entrance to the secret paths over on the western part of the island, where the shadows are.
Do you think the monsters will find our secret paths? I'd have to stop using them...

Whenever there's a festival, the folks who make my merchandise are celebrating instead of working.
So I just join in the festivals with them and have fun. But this time no one's working, and it's no fun.

Looking out over the land and seeing everything covered in darkness reminds me of a children's story I heard.
It was about a sky spirit who shone light on the world but then was sealed in a cave so that all light went out.

The light of the sun blacked out, monsters from the shadows, screaming refugees everywhere...
The image of that moment will be with me for the rest of my days.

Do you see monsters in the shadows? I see them, but it might be my mind going. I'm afraid all the time now...

It's funny... There have always been monsters here, but they seemed more...natural than these demons.
The monsters never bothered me, but I'm shivering just thinking about those horrible things.

I heard someone crying, and I was about to head out to help when my friend stopped me. I'm lucky he did.

My seaweed still isn't dry! Mama can't sell it like this. I can't go home until it's dry.

Harun Village, interior (msg_harn_ph)

I see that you will be the ones to watch over the world.

I understand that you have used a strange power to mend my son's bones. May I see this power?
Thank you. It is much appreciated. Can you move a physical object so that I can see the power work?
If you don't want to, I cannot force you... But if that power is the sign of brave warriors, I have something to tell you.

You should've seen my mother's face when I walked into the house! She was so surprised!

I knew something had happened on the mainland, but I didn't think it would reach us here. I was a fool.
When I first stepped on the beach, the sea was quiet... Then a...storm? I'm just lucky you came along.

We've heard of Angara and Belinsk, but they always seemed like a far-off dream here on Harun Island.

Have you met the old man who lives next door? He's a storyteller! He knows all about the old days.

When will this horrible thing that's happening be over? I just want life to be normal again...

We get most of our items from the mainland, so we may not be able to get any more stock for a long time...

I love seaweed. Harvest it, dry it, sell it. Simple, and a great living... Say, you guys looking for work?

When darkness gathered, the Watchtower would light the dawn, signaling a gathering on Warrior's Hill.
It was the job of the storyteller to send the bravest warriors to the hill. I hope these are the ones...

Oh, I wish my husband had followed in his father's footsteps and become a storyteller instead of a fisherman.
If he was a storyteller, he'd be home all the time and I wouldn't worry so much.

Healing light seems to glow out from that guy. I wonder what it's like to be so holy?

Braving all those dangers, then saving us like they did... I feel like I've seen a miracle!

Morgal needs warm weather soon, or there will be famine. We just lived through winter, and our stores are gone.

Every time I try to tell a story, I just wonder what's happened to my son and grandson...

My father passed away... My son is gone too. I'm all alone...

The only thing that washes up now is driftwood from destroyed ships. What has become of all the sailors?

I love the old storyteller. He tells us stuff he won't tell the grown-ups.

The sailors say that monsters lurk in the shadows. I need to keep away from dark places...

The storyteller says that "clean" weapons work best against monsters. Does our store have anything like that?

With the Eastern Sea filled with ice, we're going to have trouble fishing and gathering seaweed...

Please, gods of my people, protect us from this crisis on the mainland...

When did it dry out? I thought I was paying such good attention...

A seafood soup seasoned heavily with seaweed. Is there anything in the sea that isn't delicious?

This seafood salad is piled high with seaweed. Chewy, yet delicate!

This vegetable slaw is made mostly of finely chopped seaweed. The sesame really brings out the flavors.

Seaweed dumplings, just one of the hundreds of delectable uses of seaweed.

When a shadow falls over the world, it will herald the times of darkness. Only the power of light can end it.
Use the eye that pierces darkness to find the protection of shadows. The last of these eyes lies in Warrior's Hill.

On merchants: one cannot boast of selling things that everyone wants, no matter how many one sells.
To be a great merchant, one must sell something that no one wants and make the customer ask for more.

[Ikan] That power... How...?

[Kaba] That's the light I saw...

[Kaba] That's it! The light somehow made Dad's leg better.

[Ikan] When Kaba told me about this healing light, I thought, "Is this them?" It turned out it was indeed.

[Eoleo] Wait—can this kid see Psynergy somehow?

[Tyrell] It's not just the kid— the old man sees it too.

[Amiti] Psynergy is a power of the mind. How can a non-Adept see it with mere eyes?

[Ikan] So that light is Psynergy... You must be the ones, then.

[Kraden] The ones? Whatever could you mean?

[Ikan] The ones to go to the Watchtower on Warrior's Hill. Warriors who wield weapons that are not weapons.

[Kraden] Weapons that are not weapons?

[Ikan] Yes—weapons not of steel or wood. The warriors who use them should gather at Warrior's Hill.

[Kraden] I understand. Warriors who can fight and defend without weapons or equipment... Adepts, obviously.

[Kraden] Is that from your ancestors' stories? The stories that have been handed down to you?

[Ikan] They are not mere stories. They are part of a prophecy, a message from the past to the future.

[Kraden] And what exactly does this message say?

[Ikan] "When the light of Luna reaches the sunken tower, all falls into darkness."

[Ikan] "What began in beauty ends in terror."

[Ikan] "Shun shadow, walk in light, to escape Eclipse's blight."

[Karis] That certainly sounds like an accurate prophecy...

[Kraden] This is no prophecy. Prophecies deal with the future, and this is our present, my friends.

[Ikan] The tower in Belinsk was a machine built by the ancients to advance their art of Alchemy.

[Ikan] It was powered by light, but it worked too well.

[Kraden] They must have started it up as we did, probably with similarly tragic results. But what did they hope to accomplish?

[Karis] Maybe they were trying to do something you can't do with Psynergy...

[Kraden] Of course! Something beyond the four great elements of fire, water, earth, and wind!

[Kraden] Given the results, we can theorize that they were trying to manipulate the fundaments of darkness and light.

[Ikan] The Jenei once ruled all of Weyard as well as all four elements. But they craved yet more power.

[Kraden] At that stage, if you seek more power, you are essentially grasping at omnipotence, are you not?

[Ikan] That is as good a term for it as any: absolute mastery over all things.

[Rief] Is that even...? They wanted to do that through Psynergy?

[Ikan] The prophecy of the Watchtower also foretells that its champions will be quite clever. Exactly.

[Kraden] All right, we'll need more information. What can you tell us about the tower itself?

[Ikan] Nothing. I'm the village storyteller for an island you've probably never heard of before. What else do you want from me?

[Kraden] Hahahahaha! You have me there, sir!

[Ikan] Heeheeheehee! I do what I can!

[Kraden] Wahahahah!

[Ikan] Nyeheheheheh!

[Kraden] Ah, too rich!

[Ikan] Ohoho, it hurts!

[Kraden] Hee hee hee hee!

[Ikan] Oh, someone make it stop!

[Sveta] Ummmm...

[Kraden] I like this old fellow!

[Ikan] And I like you as well!

[Karis] EXCUSE ME!

[Karis] Er, yes. We should, of course, get back to business.

[Ikan] Right! If I don't tell you what the Watchtower champions are meant to do, then I've failed completely.

[Karis] Then by all means, speak.

[Ikan] Thank you.

[Ikan] We don't know if the Watchtower appeared where it did because the warriors had gathered there...
or if the warriors met because the Watchtower was there. But we do know that Warrior's Hill was where it happened.

[Kraden] Why were these warriors drawn to the Watchtower? What was their goal?

[Ikan] To use this key.

[Ikan] There was a treasure sleeping within the Watchtower. Once found, the treasure would guide them on.

[Matthew] ?!

[Tyrell] I'm lost.

[Rief] The treasure would guide them?

[Amiti] How would it do that?

[Sveta] How does a treasure sleep?

[Eoleo] I don't get it.

[Karis] I don't understand, either, but clearly we need to get to Warrior's Hill and see what's inside the Watchtower.

[Kraden] Then let's waste no more time.

[Ikan] I see that you will be the ones to watch over the world.

My husband has not come home, but I refuse to grieve. Nothing is certain...yet.

My husband and my son are both home and safe! I knew they would return!

The currents bring the driftwood of broken ships here. After a storm, it can take a long time to clean it all up.

[Ikan] I'm the village storyteller, but since my son and little grandson, Kaba, went missing, I've been too worried to tell my stories.

Ah, it is the warriors who saved my son and grandson! I thank you most humbly.
I understand that you have also used a strange power to mend my son's bones. May I see this power?
Thank you. It is much appreciated. Can you move a physical object so that I can see the power work?
If you don't want to, I cannot force you... But if that power is the sign of brave warriors, I have something to tell you.

Harun Channel (msg_irie_cave_way)

[Kaba] Aaaah!

[Kaba] Who are you guys?

[Karis] We might ask you the same thing!

[Father] Relax, Kaba. I think these people are all right. Or at least not monsters...

[Eoleo] Kaba? I feel like I've heard that name... Maybe back in Harun Village?

[Sveta] Yes, from Ikan the storyteller?

[Kaba] That's my grandfather!

[Father] And my father.

[Karis] Who are you two?

[Father] Relax, Kaba. I think these people are all right. Or at least not monsters...

[Eoleo] You look like you're from Harun Village.

[Sveta] And you smell like fishermen.

[Kaba] We both are, but my grandfather is Ikan the storyteller.

[Father] Yes. I could have followed in my father's footsteps and told stories, but I'm a born fisherman.

[Amiti] You must love fishing to go under these conditions. You are fortunate that we can help you.

[Tyrell] Fortunate? Fortunate people don't break their legs.

[Kaba] I'm glad you're here. With Dad's leg broken, I didn't know what to do.

[Father] I'm not sure they can help us, Son. I don't see a stretcher or anything...

[Rief] We don't need a stretcher. You're going to walk out of here on your own!

[Karis] I know that sounds crazy, but just relax and let us work.

[Kaba] Did you see that, Dad?! When he was doing that, he filled up with light, then put the light in you!

[Father] Eh? I didn't see anything...

[Father] But...my leg doesn't hurt anymore...

[Father] Let's see if I can stand up.

[Kaba] You did it!

[Father] It's like I was never hurt!

[Father] I can even jump on it!

[Kaba] A minute ago, you couldn't move it at all!

[Father] Who...are you?

[Father] No one of consequence? But I must know!

[Father] Hey—no need to get defensive! I'm just curious.

[Father] I didn't mean to offend you! I'm grateful, of course.

[Father] Just some nameless heroes, huh? I'll remember that.

[Father] If you need to keep your secrets, that's fine. But thank you.

[Kaba] If you ever visit Harun Village, stop by our house! We don't have much, but you're always welcome.

[Father] Hey—I was going to say that!

[Father] Ask for Ikan the storyteller. Anyone in town can point you to our house.

[Father] Time to get home, Son. Your mother must be worried.

[Kaba] I'll race you!

[Eoleo] Cute kid.

[Amiti] That was very well done, Rief.

[Rief] Thanks, but it was nothing.

[Karis] These are the kinds of detours I like. Probably time to move on, though...

Harun Channel, playground (msg_irie_cave)

Warrior's Hill, Third Eye container (msg_oha_ruin_1f)

[Matthew] ...!

[Tyrell] Is that it?

[Rief] The treasure of the Watchtower?

[Amiti] A strange treasure, to be sure.

[Sveta] Is this what will guide us?

[Eoleo] I'm not doing anything a rock tells me to.

[Karis] Could the treasure have been...replaced?

[Kraden] Unlikely. The door was locked when we arrived.

[Rief] No one could have gotten in without the Watchtower key.

[Sveta] And the Watchtower apparently only appeared after the eclipse began...

[Eoleo] Even if someone wanted to steal the treasure, this place is pretty high-security.

[Amiti] And if the Watchtower were still buried, even we could not have gotten in.

[Tyrell] Some treasure.

[Eoleo] So now what?

[Eoleo] Do we ask the rock to guide us? Like "Hey, rock! Know a good inn around here?"

[Karis] Maybe we don't understand it, but it WAS hidden away by the ancients. It's important.

[Kraden] As usual, Karis is right. Let us have a little faith in our forebears.

[Kraden] As it happens, I have some experience with ancient treasures. Let's just take it with us.

[Tyrell] All right, if Kraden says we need it, that's good enough for me.

[Kraden] Excellent. Let's grab it and depart.

The door is locked.

Yamata City and Ruins

Yamata City (msg_ymti_vlg)

Even after her mother collapsed, Himi is determined to travel the world. I don't think I could do it.

One of the queen's pages told me that this Grave Eclipse now threatens the whole world.
He also said that Princess Himi is going with you to stop it. Please keep her safe.

I don't think the horrible things happening on the continent will happen here. Well...I hope not.

Himi is leaving... You're all leaving...

Princess Himi isn't much older than I am, but I guess her destiny is different than mine.

What a fine vessel you have! If there's ever an opportunity, I would love to take a ride on it.

Princess Himi supposedly has an amazing power that surprised everyone. I wonder what it is...

I signed up for a life of adventure, but I can't leave my post. I hope adventure finds me here!

Princess Himi is going away. That makes Queen Kushinada very sad...

If the sun stops shining here, I don't know what I'll do...

Yamata still seems to be safe from the eclipse. Why would Himi leave a safe place?

I wish we could see the mainland well enough to tell what's going on over there. It's just too dark!

Takeru said he would bring me a present when he came home. Maybe Himi will too!

I guess Himi is going because of her "fate." I hope "fate" comes for me someday!

I used to be a famous adventurer. Maybe someday I'll make it back to the island of illusions I found...

I'm a pretty good warrior as long as I've got weapons. I don't know how the Psynergy guys do it.

I'm not yet a great warrior, so no adventuring for me. Besides, my place is near King Susa.

We don't get too many foreigners on our island. I hope you enjoy our special culture!

As long as we have King Susa and Queen Kushinada to guide us, I'm sure our little country will be peaceful.

If Uzume hadn't brought us here, we certainly would have been washed away with the tsunamis.

Prince Takeru went somewhere in a boat. It must have been far away, 'cause he's not back yet.

Himi keeps crying and crying. She says "Isaac is in danger," but she never says who Isaac is.

There are islands south of Yamata, but the other day I saw one I'd never seen before. How could that be?
Everything changes so quickly now... How will we think of names for all the new places?

It's summer, but it's still very cold. As a soldier of Yamata, I can take anything! ...Still, it's very cold.

Prince Takeru left to travel abroad, so he can't help protect Yamata. I'll have to take up the slack.

A group of adventurers made up of boys, girls, and an old man? Well, aside from gramps, they look tough. Weird.

I wonder what Izumo was like? Did all the good stuff happen before I was born?

That loudmouth Susa may have become our leader, but it was Uzume who saved us.

Amazing that after the tsunamis washed the old village away, we were able to make it here...

Takeru left on a huge, neat-looking ship. I wish I could have gone with him!

When Himi was crying, she said something I didn't understand. They said it was a "prophecy."

Stories say there was once a great city to the south that sank. It was apparently a powerful civilization.

Sure, I have goose bumps, but it's just because of the cold. I'm not scared one little bit...or bump.

With Takeru missing, there's not a reliable warrior in the whole country. The only one left who can fight is me!

Please allow me to pay my respects to my aunt, Uzume, before we leave.

My parents lived in a village called Izumo, but it was swallowed by the sea. That's why they moved here.

What's making the mainland so dark? I hope it never happens here. It'd be too scary!

[Merchant] That ship of yours is amazing! Would you ever consider maybe taking me on a trip someday?

[Merchant] You've been all over and had lots of adventures, huh?

[Merchant] Yeah, I can tell. One adventurer to another, you see.

[Merchant] Hey, maybe since you guys have a little more experience, you could solve the mystery on that one island...

[Merchant] What do you say? Would you take me with you?

[Merchant] Great! I'm excited to learn at your feet!

[Merchant] So you're not curious about the secret island, long shrouded in mystery and intrigue? Not at all?

[Merchant] OK, I'll pack my things and wait for you on board your ship!

Yamata City, interior (msg_ymti_ph)

The ships from Port Rago used to come across the Otka Sea to bring me goods, but now nothing comes.

They say the Otka Sea is now filled with huge whirlwinds. If your ship was sucked up by one, where might you land?

Please don't take Princess Himi from us... But I suppose you have to... I understand.

Just as her fever broke, Himi opened her eyes and spoke in a strange tongue. Now she's leaving...

Be glad you weren't here during the reign of Emperor Ko. He was a warmongering tyrant.
A few years ago, he died and Emperor Unan took the throne. At last Sana is a peaceful country.

Princess Himi has always been like a younger sister to me. We used to pick flowers together...
Those days are gone now, aren't they?

Queen Kushinada didn't come to see Himi off... It's sad, but I understand how she feels.

Himi is leaving with a group of the children of those heroes who destroyed the Great Serpent.
But all those stories about the old days of Izumo... No one seems to care about them now.

Priestesses are supposed to serve the gods...but I don't always know what the gods want. Does anyone?

Morgal was conquered by Sana under Emperor Ko. They must have been relieved when he died.
King Volechek of Morgal gets credit for freeing his people, but it only happened because of Ko's death.

Princess Himi told me she is going hiking, of all things! I hope she's back in time for dinner.

When I think about Himi leaving, I can hardly breathe. I will miss her terribly.

I should have listened to my father and learned net weaving...

A ship from Port Rago shouldn't have sunk, even in rough seas. Something unnatural is happening.

We can see those whirlwinds from the village sometimes. I wonder if the whole region is affected...

King Susa and Queen Kushinada have two children, Takeru and Himi. Only Himi is in the city now.

Princess Himi caught a sudden fever. It has everyone very worried. There's been no sign of recovery.

If you're heading west, you'll run into the land of Sana. It's a country that's seen its share of history.

Princess Himi is young yet, but she has tremendous powers. Many call her a child of the gods.

If they'd known Himi would be so sick, I don't think Takeru's parents would have let him go.

If you ask me, the heir to the throne should stay near it. Takeru, I'm thinking in your direction...

Since that terrible eclipse, the princess has been sick in bed. I wonder if she is cursed...

We had a good trade partnership with Sana, but suddenly the boats stopped coming. It was ominous.
Princess Himi said it was because their king died and they had a war. No time to trade, I guess.

Once, while praying, Himi suddenly started saying strange and terrible things.
Her voice wasn't her own, and even her face changed. I think the gods spoke through her.

In these frightful times, I cannot understand why Prince Takeru was allowed to leave...

Yamata Palace, 1st floor (msg_ymti_rp_1f)

Queen Kushinada is resting and won't be up for a while. Let's try to be quiet for her.

Himi, people are saying you were never really sick at all! You sure look healthy now...

Folks say now that Himi wasn't really cursed...but I think that's just part of a new curse!

Princess Himi has promised to get things back the way they were. Here's hoping!

Himi can thank her ancestors for her recovery. I hope she honors them in return.

The children of those who defeated the Great Serpent, they are you?
The mountain in which they fought is far to the north on Nihan. It is still quite a sight.
You think because I am old that you can ignore me. You will miss much with that thinking.

Himi finally woke up, but now Kushinada's collapsed. That must be the curse.

It's so boring here when there's no one around. What will I do when Himi is gone?

I hate to admit it, but Princess Himi really was under a curse. Thankfully our ancestors helped her.

Could mere humans really hide the sun from the world? Can mere humans really restore it?

At the ancestors' shrine, I was knocked back by a strange force. I remember a legend like that...

Izumo suffered many disasters after the Great Serpent was defeated. Not much survived the tsunamis.

Himi is resting in bed right now, so we're all supposed to be quiet.

Nobody's here because they're all praying with Queen Kushinada to remove the curse from Himi.

When Uzume came to Yamata City, she suddenly got sick and died. A curse, for certain.

I think Sol falling into shadow is our curse from the Great Serpent for leaving Izumo to come here.

When Izumo was destroyed by the waves, we looked for a place free from such calamities.
I believe our ancestors are still protecting us and led us here.

That old man you're with looks just like a man who traveled with the warriors that slew the Great Serpent.
But that was 30 years ago. I'm sure that man isn't around anymore. Still...

I don't know why Himi is so sick. She just needs to get more exercise, like me.

Supposedly all the great people of Yamata City are being cursed and dying off.
I feel bad for Princess Himi of course, but I'm mostly worrying about protecting myself from curses!

Uzume died in the springtime, so she at least got to see the last of the cherry blossoms that year.

Maybe the Great Serpent was really our protector... It was shortly after he was killed that the tsunamis hit.

Yamata City has been good to us, with many days of peace. I wonder how long it can last...

I remember thinking that the leader of the group that finished the Great Serpent was just a child...
Of course, it's been so long now that he may have children of his own!

This is just a plate of sliced raw fish... Do people eat this?

Yamata Palace, 2nd floor (msg_ymti_rp_pray)

I am praying for Princess Himi. Please let me pray in peace.

We pray for Princess Himi. Please do not go near her.

Stay back! I will guard the princess with my life!

When Queen Kushinada finishes the prayers, Princess Himi will at long last open her eyes.

We must exorcise the evil spirits from Himi's body. Ancestors, grant us strength!

...

It is extremely distracting to have visitors while we are in the midst of prayer.

We must focus our mental and spiritual energies! We can't have visitors at such a time!

These foreigners could not have picked a worse moment to come chat.

How many prayers was that? We've got to be done soon, right? Please wake up, Himi!

We have performed many prayers and Himi will still not wake. Maybe this is no curse...
But if it's not a curse, why won't she wake up? It must have something to do with the eclipse.

...

...

Queen Kushinada looks exhausted. She can't just keep praying all day and night.

Princess Himi still hasn't woken. What if she stays like this forever?

Poor Queen Kushinada...

Just when Princess Himi woke up, Queen Kushinada fainted dead away. I hope it's simply exhaustion.

...

I suppose the prayer vigils are finished. Now if only those strange visitors would leave! They are so...indelicate.

I think those strangers disrupted Queen Kushinada's focus, and that's why Himi did not awake.

Queen Kushinada's prayers have failed. Have we wasted all our efforts to revive the princess?

If Queen Kushinada exhausts herself, who will be left? Princess Himi may be done for.

No matter how fervently we pray, Himi's heart is unmoved... Is it possible her heart is gone?

I wish I knew enough to lead the prayer vigils. Then I could let Kushinada rest. But there's nothing I can do.

...

If Princess Himi leaves her home, the queen will be terribly lonely.

I admit that I was surprised when Princess Himi woke up. I had lost faith...

Lady Kushinada, do not lose faith!

Just when Princess Himi woke up, Queen Kushinada fainted dead away. I hope it's simply exhaustion.

I feared this day would come ever since we arrived here. Now it has arrived, and Himi is leaving.
Though I have just sent my son off, I must now send my daughter? How much more will fate ask of me?

On hearing Himi's words, I know she truly was born to stop this terrible eclipse.
Now that I know this, I cannot selfishly force her to stay here. I wish it were otherwise.

Those strange warriors are taking Princess Himi away with them. Haven't they done enough harm?

I guess foreign visitors have foreign ways, but that wasn't how I was expecting Himi to wake.

First Prince Takeru left, and now Princess Himi is going away with foreigners. What will we do?

Until Queen Kushinada fell unconscious, I had forgotten that she, too, is only human...

Uzume was the one who convinced us to move here to Yamata City. She said it called to us.
Now the next generation is going on a journey. I wonder what she would say?

Ancestors, please look after my daughter. She is too precious to lose.
Not long ago, I would have stopped her from going. Now I know that I mustn't.

Let's look in on Himi.

[Susa] What was that...?

[Susa] What did you do to Himi?!

[Susa] I ASKED YOU WHAT YOU DID TO MY DAUGHTER!

[Susa] That stone... Like an eye... What just happened?

[Susa] HEY!

[Rief] Ahh!

[Susa] What is happening?

[Kraden] Watch!

[Karis] Wait for it...

[Susa] Himi! Are you...

[Matthew] !!

[Tyrell] It worked!

[Amiti] She is awake.

[Sveta] Oh...

[Eoleo] That did it!

[Kraden] Matthew!

[Karis] So that's what it was.

[Susa] What is happening?

[Kraden] You've just seen it with your own eyes.

[Susa] I suppose I have...

[Amiti] She was chosen by the Watchtower's treasure.

[Susa] Chosen...by a treasure?

[Rief] I guess that's what they meant about the treasure guiding us...

[Susa] Hold!

[Susa] I DEMAND MORE OF AN EXPLANATION!

[Himi] Allow me to give it, Papa: I have to help these people stop the eclipse.

[Susa] Little Himi, you've just woken up. You're not making any sense...

[Himi] There is no time. I have the overwhelming feeling that the eclipse mustn't continue unchecked.

[Himi] Luna Tower consumes light, casting a Grave Eclipse that chases away all that is holy.

[Kraden] It chases away the holy, eh? Who would have thought holiness could be chased?

[Himi] I can't explain why I know these things, but I do. The Grave Eclipse brings fiends to our doorstep.

[Sveta] When the shadows overran Belinsk, the people suddenly found themselves in a city of monsters.

[Amiti] If I look out over the mainland, shadows cover everything I can see...even to my Ayuthay...

[Eoleo] Champa...

[Himi] The tower is filling itself with the light it steals. When it gathers enough, it will release it all.

[Tyrell] So what's happening to the tower while it fills up?

[Himi] It is siphoning all light from the world and emitting darkness.

[Kraden] You said you could help us stop the eclipse. How are we to do that?

[Himi] If we can amplify the light going into the tower, the machine will be forced to stop.

[Rief] Amplify the light? How can we do that?

[Himi] With a device called the Apollo Lens. Fortunately, you have already supplied it with the power it needs.

[Amiti] We have already powered a machine that amplifies light? I remember no such thing.

[Himi] The Apollo Lens is connected to the other Alchemy Machines you have dealt with.
By activating them, you provided its power.

[Tyrell] Great! Let's get it running, then!

[Himi] They are speaking to me again... We must first remove the lock, or the machine will not operate.

[Himi] We have to remove the lock, but in order to do that, one must be clothed in shadow.

[Eoleo] Yeah, yeah—gates, locks, shadow clothes... It's never simple.

[Himi] The key is in Ei-Jei. The lock is in the central continent. The Umbra Gear is scattered across the world.

[Karis] So how are we supposed to find this Umbra Gear?

[Himi] If you bring me to the right areas, I will guide you with my Search Psynergy. Each piece is hidden.

[Himi] Morgal's oldest records include an Umbra map with these locations marked on it.

[Sveta] Those records of Morgal were taken as spoils of war when Sana conquered Belinsk.

[Kraden] An ancient Morgal map in Sana... We must investigate!

[Tyrell] Looks like it... Ready for another trip, buddy?

[Karis] Yeah, it does sort of feel like destiny, doesn't it?

[Karis] You can think of it as unlucky, but at least we CAN save the world. Most people never get to.

[Karis] Matthew, you're our leader. Complaining about "fate" just makes you seem helpless!

[Karis] Yes, this is a chance to be part of the legacy of the Warriors of Vale. Should we be cheering about that?

[Himi] Every moment is precious. We should depart soon.

This is why I wanted her to stop... It does Himi no good if Kushinada works herself to death caring for her!

Himi... Himi...

I know you want to help Himi, but you need to rest now, for her sake...

[Susa] Himi... Before you go, you should pay your respects at Uzume's grave.

[Himi] I will, Father.

Yamata Palace, Susa (msg_ymti_rp_susa)

Please, Queen Kushinada... you must be strong!

First Prince Takeru left, and now Princess Himi is going away with foreigners. What will we do?

Until Queen Kushinada fell unconscious, I had forgotten that she, too, is only human...

Ancestors, please look after my daughter. She is too precious to lose.
Not long ago, I would have stopped her from going. Now I know that I mustn't.

[Susa] Who are all of...?

[Susa] Kraden.

[Kraden] Susa! How have you been?

[Susa] I haven't seen you since Felix defeated the Great Serpent...

[Kraden] It's been 30 years... How time glides by us.

[Susa] I've been aging for all those years, but you, Kraden...

[Susa] You don't seem to have gained even a day. Weren't you over 70 when we last met?

[Kraden] Ah, noticed that, did you? It's not that I haven't aged—just not as much as I should have.

[Kraden] It's the same for everyone who was involved in the Golden Sun...

[Matthew] !!

[Karis] I wonder if I'll "catch up" to Dad, age-wise...

[Tyrell] Oh, weird! I guess we might, huh?

[Rief] No way of knowing, really. The Golden Sun did slow the aging process immensely, though.

[Amiti] I wonder why?

[Sveta] Kraden is a hundred years old?

[Eoleo] Pretty sure MY old man was aging like regular people...

[Susa] Hmm... Piers...

[Susa] I hadn't thought about it, but when Piers and I met, he was about my age...

[Kraden] And he's still young, hale, and hearty today.

[Susa] And you keep in contact with him while he's aboard his ship via homing pigeon?

[Karis] Do you really trust important messages to Captain Piers to a bird?

[Kraden] Against the vast array of options for a non-Adept such as myself to send a message many miles? Yes, I did.

[Karis] But if your pigeon couldn't find him, you would have just waited for an answer forever!

[Kraden] I suppose so, but my pigeon hasn't failed me yet.

[Tyrell] But how could that little thing find him with the whole world to pick from? I wouldn't know where to start!

[Kraden] Then I suppose my pigeon has you at an advantage, Tyrell.
Perhaps if I can teach it to throw fireballs, it will put you out of a job...

[Tyrell] Hey! Are you saying that pigeon is smarter than me?!

[Rief] With all due respect, sir, we have more important things to do than listen to you bait Tyrell.

[Rief] Shouldn't we be talking to Susa about the eclipse?

[Tyrell] Hey, I'm not going to just stand here while Kraden tells everyone his bird is smarter than me!

[Tyrell] I've always hated pigeons. Stupid, feathery rodents...

[Kraden] Susa, you have no doubt noticed the crisis on the mainland. We have come for your help in ending it.

[Matthew] ?!

[Karis] Wait, we have?

[Tyrell] I thought we were just sailing around, not looking for this guy in particular...

[Kraden] I didn't say anything because I wasn't certain we'd be able to find him and time was a factor.

[Kraden] But I have reason to suspect that we will find some of the keys to our current plight here in Yamata City.

[Susa] We have escaped the darkness so far, but I don't wish to see it spread. I will help however I can.

[Susa] Unfortunately, I don't know how much I can help. Kushinada and Himi, on the other hand...

[Kushinata] Ohn hima gini, haracha hataya sowaka.

[Kraden] Sounds like a prayer vigil. Is something the matter?

[Susa] My daughter. Since the eclipse, she has been unconscious and will not awaken.

[Kraden] I'm sorry to hear that.

[Kushinada] Ohn hima chishu...

[Voice 1] Queen Kushinada!

[Voice 2] Are you all right, my queen?

[Voice 3] She has the curse as well!

[Susa] You'll have to excuse me.

[Karis] Sounds like something is wrong.

[Kraden] We should investigate.

Yamata Ruins entrance (msg_ymti_ruin_ent)

Just ahead is Lady Uzume's grave and the shrine in her honor. Please be respectful.

Lady Uzume had strange powers. I once saw her move a huge rock without so much as touching it!

Lady Uzume saved us all from the disaster of Izumo. It's an honor to guard this place.

Lady Uzume called her strange power the "Move Psynergy."

I trust you only disturb my repose with good reason?
Ah, you are Jenna's son... You and your friends, children of great warriors, who have become great warriors.
Though the world is darkness, you will illuminate the way. Return light and hope to Weyard.
Leave me to my eternal rest, then.

[Uzume's voice] It is good to see you, Himi.

[Himi] Aunt Uzume?

[Uzume's voice] Yours is a unique gift. You can witness the essential truth of a thing.

[Himi] The essential truth of a thing...

[Uzume's voice] I see a great destiny before you, Himi. You will guide your companions to important works.

[Uzume's voice] No obstacle can stand before you when you combine your strengths.
Use the hand and the eye to open the door behind me.
Find the lock in these ruins, then proceed west to Tonfon to get the key from the emperor there.

[Uzume's voice] Heirs of the Warriors of Vale... Please look after Himi.

What could she have meant? Use the hand and the eye to open the door...

Tonfon

Tonfon dock (msg_tnfn_town_1)

One of our proud ships of Sana just got shipwrecked! We're all still reeling over it.

One of the Sanan ships that Lemuria refitted has sunk in the seas up north.

When our ship went down, all hands were lost. I've been having trouble focusing on anything else.

Your ship is the exact twin of ours that sank. I suppose that proves you the better sailors...

Emperor Unan recently sent some Sanan ships northward. They're a little late getting home...

Your ship looks a little beat up, but I have to admit I'm impressed by how smoothly she sails!

Those Lemurians are amazing! The ships they rebuilt for us are absolutely amazing craft!

Those ships were the pride of Sana. But after Lemurian refitting, we were ashamed of how much better they were.

I don't want to sail the northern seas anymore—when things get rough up there, they get very, very rough.

How can there be ice floes out there in the summer? How are we to make a living?

The sailors of Sana are a tight-knit group. We laugh together, and when we lose a ship, we cry together.

The Sanan people? are good sailors, but we don't live on the seas like the pirates. They can always outsail us.

Our ships were heading for Belinsk, which isn't the safest port. I hope nothing happened...

Our ships seem behind the times. Even this run-down vessel works better than ours! Sad...

Those Lemurian sailors refitted our ship in nothing flat. And now it's ten times the ship it was!

The northern seas are pretty treacherous, but I've got a good feeling about this ship. It will make it.

Could it be...Ryu Kou and Hou Ju? Spirits be praised—they're back!

Lady Hinechou's children have miraculously returned to us! The emperor must be so pleased.

We may have lost Lord Kuan, but at least his children will survive as his legacy.

Hou Ju! Ryu Kou! You should go and see Lady Hinechou at once!

I didn't think any Sanans had made it out of Morgal. What a relief to see Lord Kuan's children!

Could they be imposters? They look just like Lord Kuan's children...

I didn't think any Sanans could escape the wrath of the Fang Tribe...

If Lord Kuan's children are as wise and noble as their father, they will help our nation.

I wish I could see Lady Hinechou's face when she finds out that her children have returned.

Lord Kuan's children are back— this day should become a national holiday!

[Kraden] Ah, Matthew, is it time to go?

[Kraden] Very well, let's get under way!

[Kraden] Understood. Let's rest while we can.

[Rief] Sorry to bother you, Kraden, but something has been troubling me.

[Kraden] Oh? What is that?

[Rief] Why didn't Nowell come with you to Belinsk?

[Kraden] I was wondering when you'd get around to asking me that.

[Rief] With everything that's happened, and all the peril and whatnot...

[Kraden] Of course. She slipped your mind.

[Rief] I am ashamed though. She IS my sister...

[Kraden] Well, I suspect she's a touch distracted herself...but by love rather than peril.

[Rief] Nowell is in love?! With whom?

[Kraden] Captain Piers.

[Matthew] ?!

[Rief] Piers of the Warriors of Vale?

[Kraden] When Piers arrived to ferry us, she seemed especially... vibrant. Aglow, even.

[Kraden] When I disembarked, she simply told me, "I'm going with Piers."

[Rief] Piers is a powerful Adept, so she'll have a fine tutor...but... they just sailed off together?

[Kraden] Piers is one of the most capable sailors in the world. I'm sure no harm will befall her.

[Rief] I had no idea... But I'm glad she didn't get tangled up in all this. She was always the lucky one.

[Kraden] Hmm... I wonder if you won't eventually think the opposite...

[Rief] Why? Where are they sailing to?

[Kraden] If we stand here reflecting on every one of our worries, we'll never leave. Onward!

Tonfon, main town (msg_tnfn_town_2)

Grandma... Please be all right...

It is a strange time when Lord Sun and Lady Moon cannot work out their differences...

Lord Sun still hides. Every day is colder than the last...

Lord Sun and Lady Moon do not seem to want to part ways. People will begin to talk...

Here in Tonfon, we seem to have partially escaped the disaster by being so far to the east.

Lord Sun's light is weaker now. I've never been so cold...

The Endless Wall was built a long, long time ago. I'll bet they didn't know we'd use it as a road!

The shadows are getting closer. No one else seems to have noticed...

Sana is a very populous country. Emperor Ko tried to use those numbers to conquer the continent.

I am sworn to protect Sana's people from all enemies, but how can I fight Lady Moon?

The darkness across the land is obviously a danger to Sana, but one we can't really fight. Frustrating.

We still get some light in Sana, but it is weak, wintry light. We're starting to feel testy and irritable.

Ko is no longer emperor of Sana, thank goodness. The old emperor was a fiend and warmonger.

We of Tonfon enjoy the light of Lord Sun the year round.
But in the western lands, the sunlight is gone. We find it quite eerie...

With Ko and Wo both gone, Sana is peaceful at last. It is a relief to not be at war.

Emperor Unan has given orders not to go west of Tonfon unless absolutely necessary.

Lord Sun was always so bright, but now I can look right at him because Lady Moon blocks the light.

Emperor Unan wants to stop the fight between Lord Sun and Lady Moon.

Have you seen the captain from Lemuria? He is no mere trader— he carries himself like a warrior.

Emperor Unan had closed the port until recently so news of Emperor Ko's death wouldn't spread.
The order came right after the emperor met with that foreign visitor...

Unan became emperor only recently, after a great civil war following Emperor Ko's death.
We lost many Sanan territories, and our colonists were killed. It saddened Emperor Unan.

I have too much to carry, so I wait for the ferry boat. But it never comes...

What do you mean, "a few trips"?!
You expect me to spend all my profit on your shipping fees? Never! You hear? Never!

I know my boat, and that much cargo would sink it in a second. We'll have to make a few trips.

All right, that's enough cold. Emperor Unan, anytime you want to fix this is fine with me.

Lady Moon, you're not really supposed to be out right now, are you?

It's nice to be right on the sea for trading and fishing and tsunamis... Wait—what?

The laundry won't dry in this cold. I can't go another day wearing moist clothes!

Is the shadowy area getting bigger?

No, I'm sure of it now— the shadows are getting longer...

Emperor Ko conscripted every able-bodied Sanan into the army and sent them to war.
Untrained city folk didn't have a chance. I wonder how many didn't make it home...

I can't dwell on the eclipse, or I'll start to lose hope. There's nothing I can do about it, anyway.

There are some places on the continent where it's just dark all the time now. How do they survive?

Hmph. Looks like it's just going to be cold all summer this year. No swimming for me.

Thank goodness the nightmare reign of Emperor Ko is over and Unan has the throne.

I wonder if the areas of darkness will expand further...

Emperor Unan's plan to succeed Ko would never have worked if Wo had been in the country.

The folktale says to walk in light and avoid shadow when Lord Sun is hiding. Sound advice.

I wonder if it's snowing in the lands with no sun...

Emperor Unan seemed to be glaring at the sky when it went dark, as if he was angry at it...

Lord Sun, Lady Moon, please put aside your differences... I'm so cold.

Yeah, that captain definitely had the "warrior's swagger" going on.

Emperor Unan has opened the port again. Apparently he got a letter from that Lemurian captain.

Lord Kuan of Morgal was killed in the battle for his kingdom. Poor Emperor Unan must miss his brother.

Lady Hinechou's room is so packed, I'd need a diversion to grab the gem...

That lazy ferryman is probably asleep somewhere while my customers wait!

This water rat is trying to extort more money out of me! What nerve!

Dad never told me about customers like this when he was teaching me the business...

It can't be Ryu Kou and Hou Ju— that would be impossible!

Lord Kuan's children back— this day should become a national holiday!

Who would have imagined that worn-out ship having such precious cargo aboard?

Uh oh, uh oh! It's already time to get the ferry moving!

Oh, Grandma...

My grandmother went to Kaocho just as everything started happening. I keep worrying about her...

[Granddaughter] You met my grandmother? And you've got something for me?

[Granddaughter] I-I...thank you.

[Granddaughter] A letter and a gift from Grandma...

[Granddaughter] *sniff*

[Granddaughter] Oh, please don't go yet!

[Granddaughter] Here. This is an heirloom that my family has kept for generations.

[Granddaughter] Please take it as my thanks for bringing this to me.

[Granddaughter] Can I beg one more favor, though?

[Granddaughter] If you pass through Kaocho again in your travels, would you give this to Grandma?

[Granddaughter] Safe travels, wherever you go.

Rumors say there's a really valuable gem hidden in Lady Hinechou's room. I wonder how valuable...?

Tonfon, interior (msg_tnfn_ph_1)

I wonder what will happen to those places where Lord Sun cannot shine his light...

To the west is Kaocho, the kingdom that Wo founded. I hear it is in Lady Moon's shadow now.

Dead fish wash up on the shore every day. The currents come from up north... What's happening there?

The sea is unseasonably cold right now. I think it's because it's so cold up north.

Don't eat the dead fish on the shore. They'll make you sick.

If anyone can heal our nation, it is Emperor Unan. He is wise and kind and loved by his people.

The old emperor, Ko, loved war. We warred everywhere, and our young men were sent off to fight.
Emperor Ko died a few years ago. Luckily, King Wo was away and Unan could become emperor.

Sana used to be on a plateau with no access to the sea. Now we get all the fish we can eat!

When I was young, the only fish I got was dried carp. Now we have fresh cod, tuna, and what-have-you.

All we ever eat at my house is fish. I wonder what they eat in other countries...

What can this eclipse mean? It can't be good...

I wonder why King Wo withdrew his troops so suddenly that day. It was almost as if he were under a spell...

So many dead fish... Such a waste...

The seas in the north are so cold... Is that why the fish are dying?

I should be grateful there is so much to eat. Grandpa says that the disaster wiped out all the food for a while.

I'm so grateful for the wise rule of Emperor Unan. He sees us as countrymen, not subjects.

Emperor Ko actually designated Wo as his successor, but we will keep that secret forever.

It's wonderful that fish is so easy to get now...but I wish the smell wasn't so overpowering...

Hmmm...what kind of fish should we have tonight?

Someday I'll travel the world and try all the food in other countries.

This rice dish has a rich mixture of vegetables and herbs mixed in, then fried to decadent perfection.

Medicine of Sana: A medicine called ginseng is said to refresh the mind and spirit.
In the correct dosage, it will also cure stomachache, headache, fevers, and ennui.

Could it be...Ryu Kou and Hou Ju? Spirits be praised—they're back!

Lady Hinechou's children have miraculously returned to us! The emperor must be so pleased.

Who would have imagined that worn-out ship having such precious cargo aboard?

Tonfon, interior 2 (msg_tnfn_ph_2)

Since the revolution in Morgal, we can't get goods from there anymore. Hard times are ahead...

Someday you should visit the Endless Wall. It'll take your breath away.

The Endless Wall is a great symbol of Sana's history. Emperor Ko visited it often.

The Endless Wall extends west of Sana. It was made in the ancient days, like all the best stuff.

I wonder why they built the Endless Wall? For that matter, I wonder WHO built it...

We just finished a civil war, and now the skies rebel against us...

It's insane that because Volechek can't get along with anyone, my customers can't get their medicine.

Emperor Ko wasn't big on history. I even hear his interest in the Endless Wall was military.
But what military purpose could he put a long wall to? I guess that's why he was an emperor and I'm not.

Emperor Ko sure was interested in the Endless Wall. I'll bet he was up to something.

We just finished a civil war, and now the skies rebel against us...

It's insane that because Volechek can't get along with anyone, my customers can't get their medicine.

The top of the Endless Wall is a long, long road. Maybe the ancients enjoyed walking...

My husband seems REALLY into the Endless Wall. It's neat and all, but...

Mmm...Tonfon stir-fry... A little burnt, but still delicious.

Some sort of jelly made from almonds, served with fresh fruit. A decadent dessert, to be sure.

Tonfon, interior 3 (msg_tnfn_ph_3)

What sunlight does reach us here seems very gray and somber. It makes me think sad thoughts.

Is it my imagination, or does your group come from all over? You all look so different from each other!

I notice your group seems almost like a family. Have you been traveling together long?
It's wonderful that you've made such bonds despite being from different parts of the world!
No? Well, you look like you're becoming close already.

A strange ship came in recently, apparently from some place called Lemuria in the south.
I've never heard of the place, so it's probably far away. They have intriguing merchandise, though.

To the east lies a land of hermits and sages. Emperor Ko once sent men there for the secret of immortality.

Princess Himi of Yamata supposedly has amazing powers. Her parents ARE heroes, so...maybe?

Lady Moon blocking out Lord Sun seems a terrible portent. It seems Emperor Unan knows of this...

At this point in my life, I should probably give up my dream of eating the world's largest pie...

These are the warriors who helped Kuan's children. They look bold...but so young...

How wonderful to build a new family of your fellow adventurers.

Lady Moon blocking out Lord Sun seems a terrible portent. It seems Emperor Unan knows of this...

Where could Lemuria be? It must be far to the south, if our sailors have never encountered it...

I wonder if drinking the blood of this "Great Serpent" really would have granted immortality...
A pity that it was slain before Emperor Ko could find out.

They say King Susa was a bit of a playboy in his youth... I wonder what his daughter is like.

There's a thick layer of dust. Seems this oven doesn't get much use...

Candied chestnuts, a Tonfon favorite. It takes all day to make them, but only minutes to eat the whole batch!

The Legend of the Tower in Belinsk: The power sleeping beneath Belinsk could revolutionize the world.
But this new form of power would devastate Weyard as we know it, so the tower must remain below.

The Endless Wall: This barrier was built by the ancient Sanans, and consumed all of their resources.
But why was this roadlike wall built? While none are certain, some say it leads to a hidden, sacred temple.

It can't be Ryu Kou and Hou Ju—that would be impossible!

Lord Kuan's children back— this day should become a national holiday!

Who would have imagined that worn-out ship having such precious cargo aboard?

Sana Palace, exterior (msg_tnfn_town_3)

C-c-c-could it be an enemy attack?

Was that the gong? What's happening?!

I was so startled by the sound of the gong, I forgot what I'm supposed to do!

I didn't do anything wrong this time! Why is the gong sounding? ...I'm in trouble.

Kuan's children have returned. It can only be a miracle!

Kuan's children are back with us. We cannot thank you enough, my lords...and ladies.

The gong!

My job is to sound the gong if enemies attack. If I just ring it for fun, everyone gets mad.

Ah, yes. The Lemurian captain told us to expect you. Please enter.

Sir Matthew and friends. Emperor Unan awaits you in his study, beyond the throne room.

The gong...

My job is to sound the gong if enemies attack. If I just ring it for fun, everyone gets mad.

I'd heard that all the Sanans in Belinsk were wiped out by the Fang Tribe.
Even if only Kuan's children made it out, that's worth celebrating.

I hope the people of the northern mainland are as tough as I've heard, or they're in trouble.

OK. Calm down. Remember your training. The gong's been rung—what do I do?

This job is really dull. Just once I want to give this gong a giant whack!

They're even younger than I thought. Can these be the ones the emperor wanted to see?

THESE are the "warriors" the emperor is waiting for? What is he thinking?

GOOOOONNNNNGGGGG!

This job is really dull. Just once I want to give this gong a giant whack!

That gong signals an enemy attack. Think of the panic you'd cause if you rang it! Better leave it alone.

Sana Palace, interior (msg_tnfn_cas_1f1)

You saved Ryu Kou and Hou Ju? Such bravery in warriors so young...

So you are both skilled warriors and brave sailors? I am envious— I can fight, but boats terrify me.

With so little sunlight, I hear the crops have suffered. I wonder if we will have enough food...

In the summer, the winds usually blow from the south, but not this year. It's as if it were fall already...

There were migrating flocks of geese here for a few days, but then they left. Nothing makes sense.

At least we don't have a war to worry about during all this. I hope Kaocho does not become restless.

We must not stray into shadow, but stay in Lord Sun's sight, as Emperor Unan instructs us.

I don't know if I believe there are monsters in the shadows...but I don't really want to check, either.

Lady Hinechou lives on the far side of the pond. She's the sister-in-law of Emperor Unan.

Lady Hinechou puts on a brave face, but no one could lose her children and husband and remain happy.

Everyone is worried about Lady Hinechou's children. The rescue ship has not returned...

Emperor Unan's brother, Kuan, was the lord of Morgal before he was killed in the beastman revolution.
Though Sana is now unified, the emperor grieves so for his brother that he can barely speak.

These warriors are all Adepts. If only I could use Psynergy... then I'd be unbeatable!

These people are skilled warriors and brave sailors? I am envious— I can fight, but boats terrify me.

King Wo of Kaocho is very powerful. I bet even if he was killed, he wouldn't die immediately. His will is too strong!

"Walk in the light at every opportunity." Such is the wisdom of Emperor Unan.

Must not drop my guard... Must not drop my guard... Monsters never rest...

Someday I hope to be even half as elegant and sophisticated as Lady Hinechou.

Tragic that Lady Hinechou's husband should die so early. I hope the children are alive somewhere...

I shudder to think about what might have happened to the rescue ship in Morgal...

Curse that King Wo! If we hadn't been fighting him, maybe we could have stopped the coup in Morgal.
Of course, Volechek is the one who actually killed Emperor Unan's brother...

The Mysterious Land of Tuaparang: Tuaparang was an ancient country that one day vanished from Weyard.
Decades later, it abruptly reappeared, aboard an enormous flying ship and having renamed itself the Zenith Tribe.

I'll bet these guys are Adepts. I wish I could use Psynergy... That would impress the ladies.

If you travel in a pirate ship, does that make you a pirate? Nah, these guys seem too brave to be pirates.

Spring was so nice, and then the snow killed so many of our crops. It will be a tough winter.

I guess the benefit of an extra winter is snuggling up close by a roaring fire...

If the food runs out, we might need those geese...

That King Wo is tough. If someone ever assassinates him, they might have to do it two or three times.

Sana Palace, Hinechou's villa (msg_tnfn_villa)

Lady Hinechou smiles with her mouth, but not her eyes. I fear they won't smile until the children return.

Losing one child would have been hard enough, but both at once! My poor Lady Hinechou...

Lady Hinechou is faithful—or stubborn— enough to believe Hou Ju is still alive. I wish I could agree.

If the gong sounds, I must respond immediately, so I never really relax. At the end of the day, I'm exhausted.

When the rescue ship went to look for the children, we were all so excited and hopeful...
But as the weeks went on and it never came back, the life drained out of the household.

Lady Hinechou is a stronger person than I am. If I'd lost a husband AND two children, I couldn't go on...

I have to relax... Not every little sound is the gong...

My dearest Hinechou, At last I can say that the locals have submitted to our just rule.
I know your illness makes travel hard, but the children should see this place. Yours always, Kuan.

My lady is laughing...truly laughing! It's been so long since we saw that lovely smile...

Both Ryu Kou and Hou Ju are back! It's like we've awoken from an evil spell...or a good one has been cast on us!

I knew Hou Ju would come back to us.

Lady Hinechou's smile is like a beacon of warmth and hope. I have missed it so.

Matthew, I'm sorry to have been such a thorn in your side all this time. I admit to being jealous of you.
I may be a prince, but you are an Adept and warrior second to none, with loyal and capable friends.

My brother must like you very much, Matthew. He spoke about you frequently during our exile.

After the rebellion in Morgal, I thought my family would never come home. I came close to despair.
With my children back, it almost feels like a dream. I hope never to awake from it.

I have always thought Lady Hinechou had the loveliest smile in Sana. How wonderful to see it again!

It's almost too wonderful to believe! Both of Lady Hinechou's children are home!

If the rebellion in Morgal hadn't been just as Lady Hinechou was home for a visit, she would have...
She must have thought that random chance had made her the only survivor of her family, poor woman...

Lady Hinechou's smile! I had almost forgotten what it looked like. I'm so happy, I could cry...

These heirs of Vale are amazing warriors. If I was an Adept, I would proudly travel Weyard with them.

Matthew, I know if anyone can stop the Grave Eclipse, it's you. Blessings go with you on your journey.

My dearest Hinechou, At last I can say that the locals have submitted to our just rule.
I know your illness makes travel hard, but the children should see this place. Yours always, Kuan.

I will do my utmost for Lady Hinechou, especially in these trying times.

Ryu Kou and Hou Ju... To lose one child is bad enough, but both at once? My poor lady...

The gong sounded, signaling an enemy attack, but everything is quiet now... Hmmm...

No one has had more cause for grief than our poor Lady Hinechou.

The uncertainty is killing us all! Can the children be alive somewhere? How can we even find out?

My dearest Hinechou, At last I can say that the locals have submitted to our just rule.
I know your illness makes travel hard, but the children should see this place. Yours always, Kuan.

For everyone's sake, I mustn't appear to panic. But I am worried about the Echo Gem in the dresser.

I wonder if what they say about the Echo Gems is true...as long as Hou Ju carries hers, the other can find it...

I wish I had an adequate reward for your kindness, Matthew. Is that what you're waiting for?
Well, I hope it goes without saying that you are welcome to anything you may find in my home.
You are very noble, but I still owe all that I have to you. Please take anything you may find in my home.

[Hinechou] Matthew, we've been waiting for you.

[Hinechou] If I spent the next hundred years thanking you for saving my children, it would still seem insufficient.

[Hou Ju] Matthew has saved me twice now. It hardly seems real that I'm safely back home in Sana.

[Ryu Kou] Thank you for your help in Morgal. I...thank you.

[Hinechou] This has been a treasured family heirloom, but I want you to have it as a keepsake of your heroics.

[Hinechou] We will always live in debt to you, and I will pray for your safe return just as I prayed for my children's.

[Hou Ju] And I will be praying at her side. Please come back safely.

[Ryu Kou] If I had powers like yours, I would see this through with you to the end.

[Ryu Kou] But I would be a distracting burden, so I have to ask you to do my share as well.

[Assistant 1] The gong! The gong!

[Assistant 2] Is...is...is it an attack?

The others tell me I must accept that Ryu Kou and Hou Ju are dead. This I cannot do.
If only my husband had not been slain... His Echo Gem would have found Hou Ju easily.

I wish I had an adequate reward for your kindness, Matthew. Is that what you're waiting for?
Well, I hope it goes without saying that you are welcome to anything you may find in my home.
You are very noble, but I still owe all that I have to you. Please take anything you may find in my home.

The Echo Gems have served our family for generations. I thought Hou Ju would be safe with hers.
Each gem will always find the other... unless you cannot bring yourself to remove yours from your dresser...

Sana Palace, throne and study (msg_tnfn_cas_2f1)

The spoils of my predecessor's constant warfare are a small price to stop the eclipse.
None in Sana know of the treasures here. Please take them from my sight.

Lord Kuan's children survived the Morgal revolution? Wonderful! I wonder where they are now...?

Lord Kuan and Emperor Unan were as close as any brothers I've known. Then came the Morgal revolution...

If my help can end the eclipse even one day sooner, I must do everything I can.

I'll always remember how they were as boys: Unan so quiet and shy, Kuan always up to some mischief...

What a relief to hear news of the children!

[Assistant] You wish to meet with Emperor Unan?

[Assistant] Then please leave at once.

[Unan] Who is it?

[Unan] Pardon me, but are you not the master sage, Kraden?

[Unan] I am most pleased you have come. Please enter.

[Unan] Thank you all for coming.

[Kraden] We have heard much of the wisdom of Emperor Unan. It is a great honor to meet you.

[Unan] And I in turn have heard much of the knowledge of the great scholar, Kraden. The honor is entirely mine.

[Kraden] May we assume, Your Majesty, that you already know of the eclipse across the continent?

[Unan] I had heard legends of it from a Morgal storyteller once, but nothing could have prepared me for the reality.

[Unan] When Sana occupied Morgal, I visited my brother there for a time and learned much of its culture.

[Unan] As I understand it, we have whoever activated Luna Tower to blame for this catastrophe.

[Amiti] We bear some of the responsibility, though the consequences are beyond even our wildest nightmares.

[Unan] "Some" of the responsibility?

[Sveta] Well, it was the Tuaparang who were really responsible!

[Unan] Tuaparang? As in the self-styled "Zenith Tribe" of Tuaparang?

[Tyrell] But the one who actually turned it on was a Sanan boy named Ryu Kou.

[Karis] That's right. He could only think about saving his sister, so we can't put too much blame on him.

[Karis] Hey, if YOUR sister was going to be boiled alive unless you did something, what would you have done?

[Karis] Poor kid. He was in a pretty rotten situation. No one can really blame him for what he did.

[Karis] Yeah, using someone's sister as a hostage is a pretty low blow. Let's show those Tuaparang!

[Unan] Ryu Kou and his sister...

[Rief] Oh, right! We had heard that Ryu Kou and Hou Ju were somehow connected to the Sanan royal family!

[Kraden] What is the matter, Your Majesty?

[Unan] Ryu Kou is my brother's son...

[Eoleo] So Hou Ju...

[Unan] Is my niece, yes.

[Unan] But at least now I know that both were alive before the eclipse...

[Unan] I sent a ship to Morgal to rescue them once we had news that they were there.

[Kraden] And the ship...?

[Unan] It has not returned.

[Amiti] We were separated from them just before the eclipse. I hope they were able to avoid the monsters...

[Sveta] I don't imagine there is any way of knowing...

[Tyrell] I've got a good feeling about it. I'm sure they made it.

[Unan] I want nothing more than to see them alive again, but prayer seems my only recourse.

[Unan] In any case, as emperor I cannot be seen to show too much emotion, even over the loss of my own kin.

[Unan] But enough about my woes. May I be introduced to your companions?

[Kraden] They are descendants of the famed Warriors of Vale. This is Matthew, son of Isaac.

[Unan] Ah, the Warriors of Vale...

[Karis] If you please, Your Majesty, my name is Karis.

[Tyrell] I'm Tyrell.

[Rief] I am called Rief, Your Majesty.

[Amiti] I...am not related to the Warriors of Vale, but please call me Amiti.

[Sveta] I'm not related either... as you can clearly see. I'm Sveta of the Fang Tribe.

[Eoleo] I'm just Eoleo.

[Unan] You all honor me with your presence.

[Unan] But now I must know, Kraden, what brings you and your companions here? What do you seek?

[Kraden] Your Majesty...would you be kind enough to let us see the items your army brought back from Morgal?

[Kraden] Er... Your Majesty, what...?

[Unan] This was part of Emperor Ko's so-called "hidden road," by which he brought treasures into the country.
I can think of no better use for them than to give to those who fight to end the eclipse.

[Kraden] You would grant us treasures without even asking us why we want them? Are you not curious?

[Unan] I have looked at you and heard you speak. If you can bring this eclipse to an end, no treasure is too dear.

[Unan] Are you all right, Lady Hinechou?

[Hinechou] I cannot find it... I must find it... If I don't, the children...

[Unan] It was quite valuable. Perhaps a thief has taken it for himself?

Ryu Kou and Hou Ju are the children of Lord Kuan, Emperor Unan's brother. Somewhere, they are still alive.

Ah, Kraden, what news do you bring?

[Unan] Ryu Kou... Hou Ju...

[Hinechou] It's you...

[Ryu Kou] Mother...

[Hou Ju] Mother!

[Ryu Kou] We're home.

[Unan] You must both be exhausted.

[Unan] Hou Ju, you were imprisoned so long... It is a great relief to see you looking so healthy.

[Hinechou] ...You're back. I'm so, so glad...

[Unan] Lady Hinechou, we have more to discuss. Will you take them to your chambers and see they are taken care of?

[Hinechou] Of course. Shall we?

[Hou Ju] Yes, of course.

[Ryu Kou] But I...

[Ryu Kou] Never mind.

[Hinechou] We obey, Your Majesty.

[Hinechou] Matthew, you and your friends have returned my children to me. I can never truly repay this kindness.

[Hou Ju] My uncle is a generous man. I'm sure he'll give you a reward!

[Hinechou] Hou Ju, that was improper...

[Ryu Kou] What are you thinking of, dear sister?

[Ryu Kou] We didn't ask for your help, but you gave it, regardless. I thank you with all my heart.

[Unan] It has been a long time since my sister-in-law was so radiantly happy. I owe you much.

The children of the Warriors of Vale, and the great scholar, Kraden, with them. I've been awaiting you.

[Unan] Words seem inadequate. The fate of Sana—no, the fate of the whole continent, rests with you.

[Kraden] Saving the world is sort of the family business for them.

[Matthew] ...

[Karis] I hadn't thought of it that way, but, yeah, it's true.

[Tyrell] But no pressure or anything.

[Rief] How about you, Amiti?

[Amiti] My heritage is different, but I will not fail you.

[Sveta] I will fight for Belinsk.

[Eoleo] And I gotta do right by my old man.

[Himi] I am with you.

[Unan] I will pray for all of you.

[Kraden] Very well. Is it time to depart?

[Unan] You are looking for the old map of Morgal?

[Unan] Sadly, I gave the map to my brother some time ago. If anyone has it now, it will be his son, Ryu Kou.

[Unan] Well, you are certainly welcome to anything you find here. Any treasure is worth the end of the Grave Eclipse.

You are looking for the old map of Morgal?

[Sveta] I can't see a thing in this darkness.

[Amiti] I thought I heard someone this way...

[Eoleo] You're right. Over there!

[Voice] Matthew? Is that you?

[Voice] I thought so...

Now is not the time for games, Matthew.

[Ryu Kou] As you can see, Hou Zan is in a bad way.

[Hou Ju] He fought off a horde of monsters to protect this place.

[Hou Zan] I thought I'd finished them all, but one was only wounded... I let my guard down...

[Hou Zan] But now that Matthew is here, I can finally rest...

[Ryu Kou] Hou Zan, no! You can't die in this forsaken place! I-I won't let you!

[Huo Ju] Yes, hold on long enough for Matthew to take us all back home to Sana, Hou Zan...

[Hou Zan] Ah, that would be a dream... But, alas, one that cannot be...

[Ryu Kou] Hou Zan, no!

[Hou Zan] Don't leave us!

[Hou Zan] Take care of them... Matthew.

[Ryu Kou] Hou Zan...

[Hou Zan] No...

Iceberg Outpost, interior (msg_ryu_isl)

It's Hou Zan's grave. Hou Ju's Echo Gem has been placed here as a marker.

With my young charges safe at last, I can finally rest without care...

[Kraden] I know this won't be easy, but we must ask: do you happen to have an ancient Morgal map, Ryu Kou?

[Ryu Kou] Yes. Emperor Unan gave it to my father when he assumed governorship of Morgal.

[Ryu Kou] I've been keeping it with me.

It's one of my last keepsakes of my father, and I wish I didn't have to part with it...

But I'm certain he would want me to help you in any way I can.

Now that we've found these two, we should return to Sana.

[Kraden] Now we can find the Umbra Gear! We should start the search right after taking them home.

Sana Palace, post-reunion (msg_tnfn_cas_2f1b)

Please join Lady Hinechou in the annex, then meet me in my study.

Lady Hinechou would like to thank you all. She's waiting for you in the annex when you are ready.

Emperor Unan is relieved that Lord Kuan's children were rescued. ...Come to think of it, so am I.

I will be praying every night for the gods to keep you safe.

With Ryu Kou and Hou Ju safe, Lady Hinechou's heart is again luminous and warm.
Her light is infectious—my heart shines with it as well. It is such a relief to have them back...

It was really quite touching to see Lady Hinechou's tears of joy at her children's return...
The emperor must be stoic, naturally, but I'm sure he weeps with happiness inside.

These "Adepts" use unnatural powers to fight... What exactly distinguishes them from monsters?

Are you all right, Lady Hinechou?

I cannot find it... I must find it... If I don't, the children...

Sana Palace, post-reunion 2 (msg_tnfn_cas_2f1c)

The Apollo Lens can only be reached via the Endless Wall, but you will not be stopped by such trivialities, correct?
Your confidence gives me hope. Please end the Grave Eclipse and heal our world.
A wise response. It is precisely when one is overconfident that Fate steps in to compel modesty. You will do well.

Didn't you come to see Emperor Unan earlier? Why didn't you wear your mask this time?

The emperor's previous visitor? He was wearing a mask, so I didn't see him properly. But I liked what I saw!

Lady Hinechou would like to thank you all. She's waiting for you in the annex when you are ready.

Lord Kuan's children have returned? That's a blessing. I would smile with relief, but I have almost forgotten how.

I will be praying every night for the gods to keep you safe.

This "Arcanus" had a hand in starting the Grave Eclipse but also brought me the Red Orb...
What strange ambitions drive such a man?

I've seen a lot of guests come and go, but that man was very strange. Eerie, even...

These guys are cute, but that masked man may have just spoiled me on all men forever. So mysterious!

With Ryu Kou and Hou Ju safe, Lady Hinechou's heart is again luminous and warm.
Her light is infectious—my heart shines with it as well. It is such a relief to have them back...

I still can't believe Lord Kuan is gone...

These "Adepts" use unnatural powers that seem monstrous... But they fight for the good of all...

[Unan] There is something of vital import that I must give you.

[Unan] But first, let me be clear... You are searching for the Apollo Lens, correct?

[Unan] Then my information was correct...

[Tyrell] What information?

[Unan] Information from a man who calls himself Arcanus.

[Matthew] !!

[Karis] Is this Arcanus from Tuaparang?

[Tyrell] So he's been to Sana, too?

[Rief] He certainly gets around...

[Amiti] Who is he under that mask?

[Sveta] The man from the tower?

[Eoleo] What is this guy up to?

[Himi] Arcanus...

[Kraden] What exactly did Arcanus tell you, Your Majesty?

[Unan] He said that I would be visited by warriors seeking an end to the Grave Eclipse.

[Unan] They would be looking for the Apollo Lens, a machine built by the ancients.

[Kraden] And what did he want you to do when this happened?

[Unan] He asked me to give you something.

[Eoleo] Is it valuable?

[Kraden] Ahem. What is the nature of this gift, Your Majesty?

[Unan] Despite the name, the Endless Wall does have an end point. The Apollo Lens lies buried just past that point.

[Unan] In order to raise the ancient machine up out of the ground, you will need three treasures.

[Amiti] And we may assume that this is one of them?

[Rief] And what of the other two? Where will we find those?

[Unan] Arcanus claimed you would already possess one of them.

[Sveta] That orb my brother threw to us...

[Karis] You're right, Sveta— that must be it.

[Tyrell] What about the last one?

[Unan] You must place the two orbs in the statue to reveal the third.

[Eoleo] And where is this statue?

[Himi] I...seem to know the answer...
Return to Nihan, and visit Uzume's tomb once more...

[Amiti] Arcanus was the puppeteer who brought about the Grave Eclipse. Why would he help us end it?

[Kraden] I've been wondering that myself.

[Rief] At least Himi's prophecy seems to agree with Arcanus. It still could be a trick, though.

[Sveta] You seem preoccupied, Kraden. What is wrong?

[Kraden] I'm not sure...

[Kraden] Is he our enemy? Or does he simply help in his own way? He's always been entirely inscrutable...

[Matthew] ?!

[Karis] "Always"?

[Tyrell] Huh?

[Rief] You make it sound as if you've known Arcanus for some time.

[Amiti] Do you know who the masked man is, Kraden?

[Sveta] Or at least a theory?

[Eoleo] Out with it!

[Himi] What did you mean that he helps in his own way?

[Unan] You all apparently have things to discuss.

[Tyrell] Are you gonna tell us or what?

[Kraden] I once knew a man... No, that story will have to wait.

[Karis] I understand. You don't want to say until you're sure. After all, he is an Adept and might be related to one of us.

[Rief] Ah... If he is kin to one of us, it might prove painful to one or all if we have to fight him...

[Karis] OK, we won't badger you anymore if you promise to tell us about it some other time.

[Amiti] Perhaps we should set a date for a storytelling day... The day after we stop the Grave Eclipse.

[Kraden] Indeed we shall. Emperor Unan, thank you for your assistance. We will endeavor not to let you down.

Emperor Unan...?

This was part of Emperor Ko's so-called "hidden road," by which he brought treasures into the country.
I can think of no better use for them than to give to those who fight to end the Grave Eclipse.

The spoils of my predecessor's constant warfare are a small price to stop the Grave Eclipse.
No Sanan knows of the treasures here. Please take them from my sight.

Emperor Unan, thank you.

Kraden, Matthew, I put my faith in you to end the eclipse. I have but one favor to ask.
If, in your travels, you find my niece and nephew, please bring them back to my sister-in-law, Lady Hinechou.

It's just an empty pot... No, wait! There's something at the bottom!
It's just somebody's gum...
