These pages compile almost all incidental NPC dialogue, both spoken and accessed with Spirit Sense, that exist separately from the "main cutscenes" in Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. This can be used as a reference to more easily look up all optional gossip at each settlement in the game without painstakingly talking to each NPC and casting the Spirit Sense Psynergy on them. Some technically optional dialogue the player is very likely to read is omitted. All text in italics is conveyed through Spirit Sense.

Tonfon (initial visit)
Sailor at southeast corner of harbor Those ships were the pride of Sana. But after Lemurian refitting, we were ashamed of how much better they were. The northern seas are pretty treacherous, but I've got a good feeling about this ship. It will make it.

Woman in lower-left residence The old emperor, Ko, loved war. We warred everywhere, and our young men were sent off to fight. Emperor Ko died a few years ago. Luckily, King Wo was away and Unan could become emperor. Emperor Ko actually designated Wo as his successor, but we will keep that secret forever.
Boy in upper-left residence All we ever eat at my house is fish. I wonder what they eat in other countries... Someday I'll travel the world and try all the food in other countries.

It saddened Emperor Unan. Lord Kuan of Morgal was killed in the battle for his kingdom. Poor Emperor Unan must miss his brother.
Old man at outdoor table near item shop With Ko and Wo both gone, Sana is peaceful at last. It is a relief to not be at war. Emperor Unan's plan to succeed Ko would never have worked if Wo had been in the country.

Inspect left bookcase in sanctum The Endless Wall: This barrier was built by the ancient Sanans, and consumed all of their resources. But why was this roadlike wall built? While none are certain, some say it leads to a hidden, sacred temple.
Inspect right bookcase in sanctum The Legend of the Tower in Belinsk: The power sleeping beneath Belinsk could revolutionize the world. But this new form of power would devastate Weyard as we know it, so the tower must remain below.

Left guard outside palace Ah, yes. The Lemurian captain told us to expect you. Please enter. They're even younger than I thought. Can these be the ones the emperor wanted to see?
Right guard outside palace Sir Matthew and friends. Emperor Unan awaits you in his study, beyond the throne room. THESE are the "warriors" the emperor is waiting for? What is he thinking?
Left guard near lobby stairs We must not stray into shadow, but stay in Lord Sun's sight, as Emperor Unan instructs us. "Walk in the light at every opportunity." Such is the wisdom of Emperor Unan.

Woman at left end of lobby Lady Hinechou lives on the far side of the pond. She's the sister-in-law of Emperor Unan. Someday I hope to be even half as elegant and sophisticated as Lady Hinechou.

Man in left room Emperor Unan's brother, Kuan, was the lord of Morgal before he was killed in the beastman revolution. Though Sana is now unified, the emperor grieves so for his brother that he can barely speak. Curse that King Wo! If we hadn't been fighting him, maybe we could have stopped the coup in Morgal. Of course, Volechek is the one who actually killed Emperor Unan's brother...
Inspect bookcase in left room The Mysterious Land of Tuaparang: Tuaparang was an ancient country that one day vanished from Weyard. Decades later, it abruptly reappeared, aboard an enormous flying ship and having renamed itself the Zenith Tribe.

Man near gong outside My job is to sound the gong if enemies attack. If I just ring it for fun, everyone gets mad. This job is really dull. Just once I want to give this gong a giant whack!
Attendant downstairs in Hinechou's villa If the gong sounds, I must respond immediately, so I never really relax. At the end of the day, I'm exhausted. I have to relax... Not every little sound is the gong...

When the rescue ship went to look for the children, we were all so excited and hopeful... But as the weeks went on and it never came back, the life drained out of the household.

The Echo Gems have served our family for generations. I thought Hou Ju would be safe with hers. Each gem will always find the other... unless you cannot bring yourself to remove yours from your dresser...
Inspect scroll in front of Hinechou My dearest Hinechou, At last I can say that the locals have submitted to our just rule. I know your illness makes travel hard, but the children should see this place. Yours always, Kuan.
Advisor near throne Lord Kuan and Emperor Unan were as close as any brothers I've known. Then came the Morgal revolution... I'll always remember how they were as boys: Unan so quiet and shy, Kuan always up to some mischief...
Handmaiden in study Lord Kuan's children survived the Morgal revolution? Wonderful! I wonder where they are now...? What a relief to hear news of the children!

If my help can end the eclipse even one day sooner, I must do everything I can.

Man from upstairs now in front of Hinechou (if gong was Slapped) The gong sounded, signaling an enemy attack, but everything is quiet now... Hmmm... For everyone's sake, I mustn't appear to panic. But I am worried about the Echo Gem in the dresser.

Possible responses from any NPC prior to ascending stairs in palace Could it be...Ryu Kou and Hou Ju? Spirits be praised—they're back! Lady Hinechou's children have miraculously returned to us! The emperor must be so pleased. We may have lost Lord Kuan, but at least his children will survive as his legacy. Hou Ju! Ryu Kou! You should go and see Lady Hinechou at once! Advisor near throne Emperor Unan is relieved that Lord Kuan's children were rescued. ...Come to think of it, so am I. It was really quite touching to see Lady Hinechou's tears of joy at her children's return... The emperor must be stoic, naturally, but I'm sure he weeps with happiness inside.

Sailor at southeast corner of harbor Your ship is the exact twin of ours that sank. I suppose that proves you the better sailors... The Sanan people are good sailors, but we don't live on the seas like the pirates. They can always outsail us.
Sailor at southwest corner of harbor When our ship went down, all hands were lost. I've been having trouble focusing on anything else. The sailors of Sana are a tight-knit group. We laugh together, and when we lose a ship, we cry together.

Armory shopkeeper Sana is a very populous country. Emperor Ko tried to use those numbers to conquer the continent. Emperor Ko conscripted every able-bodied Sanan into the army and sent them to war. Untrained city folk didn't have a chance. I wonder how many didn't make it home...

I may be a prince, but you are an Adept and warrior second to none, with loyal and capable friends. These heirs of Vale are amazing warriors. If I was an Adept, I would proudly travel Weyard with them.
Hou Ju My brother must like you very much, Matthew. He spoke about you frequently during our exile. Matthew, I know if anyone can stop the Grave Eclipse, it's you. Blessings go with you on your journey.
