Golden Sun: Dark Dawn/String Dump (Part 4)

From Golden Sun Universe

This reference page features cleaned-up versions of most of Golden Sun: Dark Dawn's in-game text strings that are expressed as dialogue. To facilitate legibility, all strings that are parts of either mandatory or otherwise significant cutscenes will list the characters speaking them in [Bold], whereas all optional strings will not list any character names. Instances of junk strings are also removed. Each collapsible section represents the contents of a different .dat1 file, the file name of which is listed in the title.

Kaocho and Ouroboros

Kaocho, town (msg_ccho_town)

The armies of Kaocho have been gone a long time. I wonder when they'll be home.

We've heard rumors about Sana that say our homeland has become a peaceful place.
I wish we could say the same in Kaocho.

I want to go home to Sana. I hated it there with Emperor Ko on the throne.
But I hear that it's a very different place now.

It's a little quiet here in Kaocho, since our army is off on a mission in Ei-Jei right now.
Most merchants and farmers are part of the army, so it's like a ghost town right now.

So King Wo has us at war again? Last time, when he sent our soldiers to Passaj, they came back in bad shape.

King Wo and the founders of Kaocho came from our homeland of Sana. They brought us here with them.

Tea Shop —CLOSED

King Wo has left Kaocho on some all-important mission! No wonder it's quieter here.

My dad's off with the soldiers right now. I wish he'd come back home so I could see him.

Head inside.

King Wo is waiting.

King Wo wants Adepts. He'll do anything to get his hands on warriors who can use Psynergy. But he can't find any!

King Wo doesn't want war. He wants peace, and he'll smash any country that disagrees!

The entrance won't budge.

[Right guard] Halt!

[Right guard] Are you Adepts?

[Left guard] Our apologies.

[Left guard] We didn't know you were the Adepts we're expecting today.

[Left guard] Head inside, please.

[Right guard] King Wo is waiting.

[Right guard] I thought not! Get going! Shoo!

[Amiti] We've made it to Kaocho! It's so strange to be inside the gates of Ayuthay's enemy.

[Amiti] The Ouroboros entrance we seek, however, is not within the palace, but through a cave on its side.
We can always come back into the city later. First we should look for the cave entrance!

Sorry, I'm just feeling too tired to do much of anything except look at fish...

...Sniff...sniff-sniff.

Do I smell a Kaocho dumpling? Those bundles of tastiness always give me a burst of energy...

Would you like to give him a Kaocho dumpling?

Well, that's terrible! To be within arm's reach of one of those Kaocho dumplings... And then be denied?! I think I'll just sit here and stew about that forever.

You must be justly rewarded for your morsel of charity! Here, take my fish-watching spot!
Good-bye, dumpling buddies!

I'm sure that my abilities would be of help.

Halt!

Who goes there?!

No one may enter. Be on your way.

King Wo has left strict orders not to let anyone into the palace.

No one may enter. Be on your way. Now.

I had my whole life still ahead of me...

I thought it was just a dark shadow cast by storm clouds...how wrong I was.

Never to greet a new visitor, ever again...

At least I helped some people get to the palace. Maybe that might help me atone for my wilder days...

I saved all the children. I'm a hero! They'll always remember me now...

King Wo is too busy to see anyone right now.

The door is firmly shut.

Kaocho, interior (msg_ccho_room)

I sing this store's praises so much, you'd think I was paid to do it! But that's not true...honest!

Mixing all those herbs and potions would be too difficult for me. I couldn't keep them all straight!

King Wo must be away from the palace. Everyone is FAR less stressed.

Wo wants to take over Passaj and Ayuthay. King Wo is more than hungry for victory. He's voracious!

The shops in Sana are said to be better than this one. But I think there's great stuff in here!

Sana is known for its herbal medicine. This place is run by a Sanan herbalist, so I came to take a look.
I'd like to start up a shop like this, so I came on a little spy mission. Don't tell the herbalist, though.

Rumors are flying! People say King Wo has left the palace with that beautiful woman.
He's apparently smitten with her too—and he doesn't plan on coming back here anytime soon!

The Kaocho army has two generals, Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra. They're our most fearsome warriors!

The Kaocho army was sent away on a campaign. That's why everything's dead quiet here.

Have you come to be soldiers?
Too bad, because the Kaocho army is afield right now. You can't join while it's gone!
Why not?! If you please King Wo, he could make you into generals! You'd be rich, I tell you!

All the dumplings made here are really fresh. Oh, what pillowy, juicy goodness!

I swoon for the rice dishes here, but sometimes I dally with the dumplings. Really, who can choose?

Too busy...gumming food...to talk.

He didn't wear his dentures today. I can't take him anywhere.

This is a soup of the lightest broth and crunchy noodles. A perfect combination!

The Shame of Sana: When Emperor Ko was in control of Sana, all neighboring countries quivered in fear of him.
But when Ko passed away and was replaced by Emperor Unan, Sana reversed course.
Now it has a policy of peace. While its citizens gained democracy, they also lost much territory.

The Vow of Wo: After King Wo was denied his rightful place as Emperor of Sana, he made a vow to put things right.
He swore to make Kaocho into the great military nation that Sana once was, then to march upon our homeland!
Thus King Wo will one day be Emperor Wo, and Sana will ultimately be the center of the civilized world once more!

The Might of Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra: The generals in Wo's army are respected by those of Kaocho, even Sana itself.
They're both terrifying in battle, but some say their actual field tactics are lacking. But who would dare sully their honor?!

Eternal Life in Angara, Vol. 2: In the southeast part of Angara was once a pilgrimage site known as Fuchin Temple.
Its master monk was Nyunpa, and it was said he learned the secret to eternal life. Unfortunately, it involved enlightenment.
But the deeply insightful people of Kaocho reject such silliness, and so King Wo seeks elsewhere for eternal life.

Eternal Life in Angara, Vol 1: The former Sanan ruler, Emperor Ko, sought the secret of eternal life before he met his end.
King Wo, always trying to live up to Ko's example, now seeks the same, for why shouldn't military geniuses live forever?!
It is said that a ruler named Babi, who once ruled the city called Tolbi, knew the secret of eternal life but took it to his grave.

The Long History of Sana: Though the ambitious Emperor Ko founded Sana, the people of Sana have a longer history.
Legend says that the Sanans lived even as far back as the ancient times, when they were allied with the ancient peoples.
In fact, the Endless Wall that stretches across part of Angara is said to have been built in this golden age.

King Wo has left Kaocho on a secret mission. But I know what it is. Want me to tell you?
He's looking for a way to threaten his rival, Emperor Unan of Sana.
The emperor's brother, Kuan, died in recent years, leaving behind two children in Morgal.
King Wo wants to find those children and use them as hostages to force Emperor Unan to do his bidding.
That strange woman who has been seen here helped him concoct this plan. Then away he went!
What, not curious about world events? That doesn't seem so safe these days.

A ways back, King Wo and Emperor Unan of Sana, our original homeland, were at each other's throats.
That was when tragedy struck in our colonies in Morgal—which is in the northern half of the continent, if you didn't know.
The emperor was too busy dealing with King Wo, so he didn't have time to put down a revolution that flared up in Morgal.
Any Sanans living in Morgal had to run for their lives. That's how the empire lost control of Morgal.

Could you please find my grandchild and give her a letter? Please, I'm relying on your kindness!

This is sweet-and-sour pork that absolutely shimmers with pineapple sweetness. What a delight!

Spring is coming. It's going to get hotter and hotter soon, I bet!

Summers in Kaocho are the absolute worst!

I know the Kaocho army will be fine, because our generals are the best around!

Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra are frightening generals. They're as tough as they come!

The soldiers haven't come home in a long time. I miss them!

My father doesn't think he's a very good soldier. I don't care. I think he's a great dad.

My dearest one says that he'll be home soon, once Kaocho finishes its work.

Kaocho was forged in war. Most of our people are soldiers who left our homeland, Sana, to come here.
But many people miss life in Sana.

When the emperor of Sana passed away, King Wo marched back to our homeland and tried to seize command.
He failed to take it from Emperor Unan. Oh, how Emperor Ko must be looking down upon our Wo with disappointment!

King Wo was one of two men in line to become the emperor of our Sanan homeland.
After Emperor Ko expired, Wo expected to take over his war empire. But Unan instead took over...
a scholar, of all people!

I can't understand King Wo failing to take over the empire.
How could he lose to a measly scholar like Unan?

I haven't seen my dad in a while. He's a farmer that got roped into marching on Ayuthay.
He can barely handle a sword, but you should see what he can do with a plow!

I saw my dad trying to get a handle on using weapons. But he couldn't hurt a fly!

A gentle soul makes for a loving husband. That's the secret to our happy home.

The oven is immaculate. It must not be used much.

It's a tofu dish that's so hot, it burns tongues from across the room!

The Might of Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra: The generals in Wo's army are respected by those of Kaocho, even Sana itself.

Oh, my dear, would you please take a gift to my grandchild in Sana?

Not going to Sana, perhaps? I can't think why else you'd turn down an old woman's request.

OK, here's the gift, and I've tucked a letter inside of it for my grandchild.
I have complete faith in you, my dear!

[Grandmother] ...Oh? Could that be a letter from my granddaughter?

[Grandmother] Oh, it's like a ray of sunshine in all this gloom!

[Grandfather] ...What? A letter? My dear old woman, your sent love has brought us love in return.

[Grandmother] We can finally rest in peace, my dear.

[Grandfather] Peace at last.

Hi, Grandma! How are things? I'm fine. But I miss you! Well, until next time...
P.S. I've included a little reward for those hardworking warriors. They deserve it! OK, bye now!

To move from Sana to Kaocho, and then finally come to this? My life took a wrong turn somewhere.

Did I get finished off by a monster? I must have! I would never go outside looking like this...

I had my door open to cool this place. That's how the monsters got in, I guess.
Wish I'd had some cold tea instead...

Good thing Kaocho got all our littlest ones away in time. There's a happy ending, at least!

Who knew that monsters were smart enough to open a door? Talk about unwanted visitors...

King Wo could lead an army but not a country, I guess. Wish I'd known that...a little earlier.

Oh, what terrible sorrow. Never to have heard from my grandchild again...

I do the cooking around here, plus all the cleaning. So people need to cut me some slack if I screw up any dishes.

Kaocho Palace (msg_ccho_cas)

So YOU must be the Adepts that we're expecting today! It's time for your audience with the king!

The Kaocho army is too weak to fully conquer Ayuthay.
Our soldiers will come home soon enough with their tails between their legs.
Kaocho's best generals are there, but they can do only so much when their soldiers are mostly farmers!

I see that you're all Adepts. Let me welcome you with a piece of wisdom. Absolute conquest takes patience.
Once we've seized the southern shores of Ei-Jei, maybe we'll name this entire region after King Wo!

I came here from Sana when I heard about the ancient treasures in the labyrinth below this palace.
But I haven't laid eyes on a single one! And neither has anyone else!
It's not that people return empty handed from the labyrinth... It's that they don't return at ALL.

This door leads to the throne room. King Wo is waiting for you, Adepts. Grovel before his greatness.

King Wo awaits his new batch of Adepts. But if that's not who YOU are... remove yourselves from his palace!

When King Wo came here from Sana to found Kaocho, our Emperor Ko was still alive.
Back in those days, our old home was still the strongest country in Angara.
Just as this new palace was finished, Emperor Ko died! Ever since then, Sana has become cowardly and weak.

When the emperor of Sana passed away, King Wo should have gotten his throne.
But Unan stole it from him! Now King Wo will do anything to take it back from him.
Even sell his soul to the devil! And who could blame him?!

Ruins are sacred places, yet King Wo dared to build this palace upon one.
I'm worried that we'll all suffer the consequences.

The labyrinth down those stairs was built by the ancient ancestors of the Ayuthay.
We can't figure out how to penetrate its mysteries.
When we were on friendly terms with the Ayuthay, we asked for any insights.
They refused to part with their secrets.

Adepts and the Ancient Times: The modern Adepts appear to be the key to understanding the ancient ruins.
For the Adepts are descendants of the Jenei, the ancient people who built the civilization that fell into ruin.
Furthermore, as Alchemy returns to the world, we run the risk of being dominated by the Adepts once more.

Kaocho Military Dispatch 2: The lands around the Ayuthay castle fell swiftly to Kaocho soldiers—almost too swiftly.
King Wo's generals have not been able to enter the castle itself, however. There is more to Ayuthay than meets the eye.

Kaocho Military Dispatch 1: We thought that Passaj would quickly fall to the military might of Kaocho.
But Passaj launched a counterattack based on the might of their extreme heights. Shamefully, we lost the battle.

[King Wo] My new Adepts are late! You promised that they would be in Kaocho by now.

[Chalis] So I did, King Wo. They will arrive at any moment.

[Kan-Shuku] His Majesty does not wait for any man, Chalis. This is impertinent!

[King Wo] Kan-Shuku is correct, Chalis. So these Adepts had better be worth my precious time.

[Matthew] ?!

[Karis] I think they're talking about us!

[Tyrell] That King Wo guy there is a real creep.

[Rief] But what does he want with us?!

[Meisa] If I may speak, my king? The Adepts will be worth their weight in gold, if they can breach the Ouroboros.

[Kan-Shuku] That's what Chalis has promised, Meisa, but I still don't know why we trust this foreigner.

[Chalis] My dear Kan-Shuku, I know far more than you ever will.

[Kan-Shuku] How DARE you!

[Chalis] Spare me, Kan-Shuku, and do try to look impressive. We have guests.

[King Wo] Finally! My Adepts have arrived!

[Kan-Shuku] What? And now you summon your own guards, Chalis! You go too far!

[Meisa] Your personal soldiers are quite...unusual, Chalis.

[Matthew] ?!

[Karis] He looks like one of those soldiers who attacked us below the Konpa ruins!

[Tyrell] Like one of Blados's men!

[Rief] Get away from us, villain!

[Chalis] Well done, men. Now, out of my sight.

[King Wo] Now, Chalis, tell me exactly who our little visitors ARE.

[Kan-Shuku] Let me do the honors, Your Majesty! These are Adepts!

[Chalis] You bumbling toadie, Kan-Shuku—you really know nothing at all. These are quite...exceptional Adepts.

[Tyrell] So, you're Chalis? With a name like that, you've got to be working with that cocky Blados!

[King Wo] Ah, you know of Blados? Then you ARE my Adepts!

[Tyrell] Yeah, like that Chalis lady said... We're, uh, exceptional Adepts.

[Karis] Don't say another word, Tyrell!

[King Wo] Ah, so your name is Tyrell, is it?

[Tyrell] Sure, whatever! And this is Matthew. He's our leader!

[King Wo] What scrumptious information. Matthew and Tyrell. Two names I won't forget.

[King Wo] Now that we've confirmed you truly are my Adepts, I hope you're everything I've been promised.

[Chalis] They certainly are, Your Majesty. These Adepts have the power to fulfill your greatest ambitions.
But which will it be first: to get the relic from the Ouroboros or help your army in Ayuthay?

[King Wo] Ah, the relic...or military victory? I've waited so long for both that I can hardly decide!

[Rief] The Ouroboros? An army in Ayuthay? They think we're here to help them with something!

[Tyrell] They're idiots if they think that! Right, Matthew?

[Tyrell] I don't know if I'd be going with the flow right now, if I were you! These guys seem evil!

[Tyrell] Yeah, I'm furious too! Who do these guys think they are, demanding our help?!

[Tyrell] Er, not the best time to put on your sad face, Matthew. Lots of people are watching...

[Tyrell] Don't tell me you're eager to dive into this whole mess, Matthew. These guys sound pure evil!

[Kan-Shuku] They don't realize what an honor it is to serve the great King Wo. I think they're even refusing you.

[Chalis] Refuse? No, these Adepts won't be able to resist once they hear of the powerful artifact in the Ouroboros.

[Kan-Shuku] You clearly aren't paying attention, Chalis. That sounded like "no" to me.

[Chalis] Have you Adepts heard of a relic found in the Ouroboros below?
It's a mask of considerable power and importance.

[Rief] Hmm...a mask...?

I wonder what more they know about it...?

[Chalis] Ahhh... So have I enticed you?

[Chalis] Oh, I don't believe that for a moment. You must be a little curious?

[Chalis] Of course. For clever Adepts are always seeking out such things, are they not?

[King Wo] But if you get your hands on that mask, it's all mine!

[Karis] Why would we go to all this trouble for HIM?!

If we get that mask, we're going to hang onto it!

[King Wo] Don't even consider disobeying me, Adepts. I must have that relic.
It is the key to the power that can help me wage war like never before!

[Kan-Shuku] Your Highness, may I suggest that we send the Adepts to Ayuthay first? The mask may take too much time.
Our generals are in need of urgent assistance to complete our siege of the castle.

[Chalis] These Adepts could tip the scales in Kaocho's favor. Ayuthay will finally fall.

[King Wo] I give this plan my seal of approval! Write it up, then give the letter to that Matthew person there!

[System Message] The letter is quickly written...and completed.

[Meisa] King Wo, if I may beg you to listen to the letter, to ensure it lives up to the measure of Your Majesty!

[King Wo] Yes, yes. Get on with it then.

[Meisa] To Ku-Tsung, general of the Kaocho army: The courier of this letter, Matthew, has pledged his loyalty to our royal cause.
This loyal servant and his companions have sworn to use their Psynergy to help you crush Ayuthay. —Wo, King of Kaocho

[King Wo] Well...I think "annihilate Ayuthay" would have captured my sentiment better. But, yes, the letter is fine.

[Tyrell] Hold on a second! We're not just going to be used like this, are we?!

[Tyrell] Just because you took the letter doesn't mean we have to fight their war.

[Tyrell] I'm not blaming you for taking the letter. I'm just saying we don't have to fight in their war!

[Tyrell] Yeah, this is a sad situation, all right. He can count us out. We're not going to be pawns in his war!

[Tyrell] Yeah, there's no way any of us are going to fight in his war! I mean, I like fighting...but not for him.

[King Wo] How dare you! Who are you fleas who question ME, the will of Kaocho!
Are you telling me you Adepts refuse to fetch MY mask and serve the generals in Ayuthay?!

[Chalis] Perhaps I was wrong, Your Majesty. Maybe these Adepts won't bend their knee to Kaocho after all.

[Chalis] They don't realize that pledging loyalty to the great King Wo is an honor.

[Chalis] And they clearly don't know what that sort of rebellion earns you around here...

[Chalis] So Adepts, you want to explore the Ouroboros? To steal its relic for yourselves, perhaps?

[Chalis] Let's oblige them, Your Highness.

[Meisa] Ah, Chalis, you ARE a viper. Yes, I agree. Let's get them to the Ouroboros—posthaste!

[Matthew] ...?

[Tyrell] Uh, guys? Let's take off before this gets any weirder.

[Karis] Yes, maybe we can find our way to the Ouroboros ourselves.

[Rief] I have a bad feeling about this.

[Matthew] ...?

[Karis] What are they going to do, summon the guards?

[Tyrell] They're about to pull something, that's for sure.

[Rief] What do you intend to do with us?

[Kan-Shuku] Dispose of the garbage!

[Matthew] ?!

[Karis] Er...garbage?!

[Tyrell] Uh, shouldn't we run or something?

[Rief] Your Majesty, can't we talk this through?

[Meisa] The time for talk is over. You have vexed King Wo.

[Kan-Shuku] Now, Your Highness?

[King Wo] Away with them!

[Kan-Shuku] Your Majesty, that rabble will trouble you no more.

[Meisa] Sigh. Now we have to find a new batch of Adepts to help us breach the Ouroboros.

[King Wo] Oh, how much longer must I wait NOW?!

[King Wo] What say you, Chalis?

[Chalis] In truth, I haven't given up on them, King Wo.

[Kan-Shuku] What do you mean, Chalis?

[Chalis] True Adepts have a way of proving their worth, Kan-Shuku.

[Chalis] And I think that those Adepts are diamonds in the rough.
If they survive the fall, they'll soon learn that they can't truly enter the Ouroboros—not yet anyway.
Serving you in Ayuthay would have polished them up. That would give them just the strength they need.

[Chalis] I suspect that isn't the last we'll see of those Adepts.
They'll come back to Kaocho when they're ready, now that they know what's in the Ouroboros.

King Wo is always busy. I never get an audience with him!

Nobody has come this way. They all just vanished from the castle.

Ouroboros, bottom floor (msg_urbrs_3b)

[Karis] Where...are we?

[Rief] I would guess that we're somewhere within the Ouroboros labyrinth.

[Tyrell] My aching back!

[Tyrell] Why would they let us down here anyway?
We made it clear that we're not about to hand over any relics to them!

[Karis] Maybe they thought that we wouldn't survive the fall.
But if they're desperate to get that mask, why would they risk it?
Hmm... I bet they're playing a dirty trick on us.
They probably hope to trap us here, with NO way to get the relic...
And no way to escape either! Well, we're not going to rot here. Let's find our way out of this trap.
Maybe there's another way into the RIGHT part of the Ouroboros! Let's find it!

Kaocho, cave entrance to Ouroboros (msg_ccho_cave)

[Amiti] The Ouroboros entrance we seek is surely right here. Perhaps if I use my power of Insight...

Ouroboros, Sol Mask room (msg_urbrs_1b)

[Karis] We've done it, Matthew! We got the Sol Mask!

[Rief] With this mask, we can finally use the Alchemy Forge.
Once we create that cloud passage, we'll be one step closer to getting over the Khiren Mountains!
Let's make our way back to Passaj!

Ayuthay and Barai Temple

Ayuthay, Barai Pond (msg_ayty_ent)

I heard you didn't get rid of those evil spirits. The generals were very upset at you.

The generals were furious that you never followed through with those exorcisms in Ayuthay!

I haven't seen our generals for a while. I wonder where Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra have gone to?

The water level here dropped, but now it's normal again. But who would play havoc with the pond?

Looks like another big day of doing nothing. I don't like war much, but a battle would break the monotony.

All we've done since we got to Ayuthay is watch the grass grow. Not a bad way to earn a living!

Generals Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra are in the temple across the pond. Your letter says to report to them.

Give your letter to the generals when you see them. But don't waste their time, whatever you do!

Hey, you're the warriors who betrayed Kaocho! I don't talk to backstabbers.

The generals want to speak with you. Go see them. Don't worry, they don't plan any trickery.

I haven't seen our generals for a while. I wonder where Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra have gone to?

All we've done since we got to Ayuthay is watch the grass grow. Not a bad way to earn a living!

Our generals, Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra, are across the pond. Your letter says to report to them.

Give that letter to the generals as soon as you see them. But don't waste their time, no matter what!

The remains of some unfortunate soul.

The remains of some unfortunate soul.

The remains of some unfortunate soul.

The remains of some unfortunate soul.

We're busy taking over this place. I can't let you pass unless you have business here.
So visit Kaocho if you want to get into the army business. King Wo is the man with the master plan.

[Left soldier] Is that a letter from Kaocho Palace?

[Right soldier] Is that a letter from Kaocho Palace?

[Left soldier] It's a letter from the palace!

[Right soldier] It must be from the king!

[Left soldier] From the looks of it, King Wo has sent you. So you're here to aid our assault on Ayuthay?

[Left soldier] Welcome then, friends! We need good warriors to help Kaocho smash Ayuthay!

[Left soldier] Oh, are you just here to cheer us on then?

[Right soldier] Come on in!

[Left soldier] Our generals, Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra, are across the pond. The letter says to see them.

[Right soldier] Yikes. I mean, lucky you! You'd better get that letter to the generals—fast!

Sorry for being jumpy. I'm just a farmer from Kaocho helping with this whole occupation thing.
I'm hoping I get off duty before more orders arrive from Kaocho.

GAAAH!

Don't surprise me like that!

You don't belong in Ayuthay. Not here, not now.

I would have seen that fiend coming, if it hadn't been for that dark eclipse...

I came as a soldier. I left as a hero.

Most soldiers are Kaocho farmers, since real warriors are pretty rare... So I'm glad we haven't battled yet.
Maybe more orders will arrive soon. But hopefully not.

You've got a letter from King Wo! Show that to the main guards, then deliver it to the generals!

Are you from Ayuthay?
I don't really care either way, but you can't enter right now. In fact, you might be at risk staying here.
We're awaiting more orders for our siege of Ayuthay.
That doesn't surprise me. When the army arrived, no one from Ayuthay was here! As if a magician made them all vanish!
Maybe more orders will arrive soon and give us something to do.

A communication from the palace? Yikes—that's not for MY eyes!

If you've come to enjoy a good war, you're going to be disappointed... The Ayuthay are nowhere to be found!
So we're just standing around, waiting for additional orders!

You've got a communication from the palace? That's too important for my eyes!

I don't mind conquering a country for King Wo. But some of the orders he sends make him sound like a bully.

You've got a big-deal letter from Kaocho Palace? Then you must be a big deal too!

Trying to get across the pond? There's no raftsman here to paddle you to the other side.
Maybe you can wait for a strong wind to blow you over. That, or the hot air from one of King Wo's proclamations.

Oh, you have a letter from the king? Seriously, you need to get that to the generals on the other side!

If you're looking to cross to the far side, I'm your man. Want me to take you across?

Not now? OK, you know where to find me if you want to cross.

Sounds good. Hold tight. We're shoving off!

I can take you to the opposite side. Want to go across?

No? All right. I'll be here for you when you want to cross.

OK, then. Hang on. We're shoving off!

Whoa! Where'd the water go? I hope you weren't counting on me for a ride.
My raft is useless until we get more water in here!

Ayuthay, exterior of palace (msg_ayty_town)

I sure wish we could call it a day and head home. I need to get back to my farming!

Things were going so well until those spirits showed up. And now the generals have gone missing!

No doubt... There are some cr-cr-creepy spirits around here. Get rid of them...please!

Our generals went off somewhere. They said they'll return when the evils that plague this place are gone.

The Insight Glass is our greatest secret, so I was relieved to hear that Amiti was entrusted with it.
Now I won't have to worry that some stranger will steal its power.

We have reports that the Kaocho generals have already realized you're missing.

This unfortunate soul has met a grim fate.

This unfortunate soul has met a grim fate.

[Soldier] Follow me.

I overheard the generals inside talking about problems with their plans to take over Ayuthay.
They're in a nasty mood, waiting for letters from King Wo.

The stone face upon this ancient tree has its eyes closed, as if waiting to be woken up.

Ah, Ku-Embra... Who could have guessed our great careers could have come to this...
At least no one but us will ever know about the treasure we hid in Kaocho...

Oh, Ku-Tsung... What a terrible end for us, but at least no one will ever locate our treasure.
What a great hiding place...in that cracked stone three steps to the left of the Kaocho Palace stairs...

The Ayuthay people ran scared. They abandoned their city. Now we await new orders from Kaocho!

You've got a secret strategy for our attack on Ayuthay in that letter, don't you? Get it to the generals!

Many of my fellow soldiers think the Ayuthay fled their city when we invaded. But I'm not so sure...
I have the feeling that we're being watched. So I wonder what further orders from Kaocho will say.

A letter from King Wo? I wonder if he knows what's truly going on here...

The generals are planning their strategy right now. Only those with urgent messages can see them.

Ayuthay, upper-level hall (msg_ayty_2f1)

Quickly now! Show General Ku-Tsung your letter!

Looks like a stone gate—but there's no possible way through here.

Looks like a stone gate—but there's no possible way through here.

How did you ever make it back to Ayuthay with all those monsters prowling outside?!

Who...who are you? Sorry, I'm still shocked at what's happened. First, the occupation. And now this...

These warriors are brave as brave gets, traveling among the monsters out there!

I shudder to even remember the sounds we heard when the disaster first happened...

You can leave Ayuthay through this main gate.
King Paithos has said that you may come and go through here as you please.

The outside world is a dangerous place, Amiti. Please take care of yourself out there.

This exit leads out of Ayuthay. Those who want to come and go must get permission.

Any who wish to leave Ayuthay must first get leave from King Paithos.

[Voice] Hee-hee!

[Voice] Hee-hee-hee!

[Voice] Pffft—haha!

[Voice] Wha-ha-ha!

[Voice] Gaww—ha-ha-ha!

[Voice] Hee-hee-hee-hee!

[Soldier] Excuse me...? Generals?

[Ku-Tsung] We're busy right now!

[Ku-Embra] We must purge the evil spirits!

[Soldier] Please, generals! We have visitors from Kaocho! These people possess a letter from King Wo!

[Ku-Tsung] Eh? They don't look like Kaocho warriors... Hmm. Never mind. Show me the letter, then!

[Paithos] Adepts, you have our eternal gratitude for defeating the great generals of Kaocho.

[Paithos] And you are right. This is no time to rile up the Kaocho outside. Please, forgive my advisors.
You need to be able to leave Ayuthay and travel Ei-Jei without the Kaocho causing you trouble.

[Left minister] My deepest apologies.

[Right minister] We abide by your wisdom.

[Amiti] I have an idea about how we can deal with the soldiers.

[Amiti] The generals may be fierce fighters in personal combat...

[Amiti] But they don't seem to lead their soldiers well. We could take advantage of this.

[Paithos] True, their men have been wandering outside aimlessly for a long time.

[Paithos] If we simply say nothing about the generals, they may never notice.

[Karis] With most of their forces in Ayuthay, we can head to Kaocho and enter the Ouroboros without a hassle!

[Amiti] This whole matter would be easier if there weren't quite SO many of them.

[Paithos] In that case, we must keep the generals quiet inside Ayuthay, while you make your way to Kaocho.

[Amiti] Keep close watch on them. That will buy us the time we need to find the Sol Mask.

[Amiti] Let's make haste, my friends.

[Paithos] The hopes of the Ayuthay, as well as all people of Ei-Jei, rest in your hands. Go now.

Welcome back!

You can choose which characters you will use in battle on the Status screen.

Swap any two characters' positions by first selecting one, then the other.

The four characters in the front row are the ones you will start with in battle.

You've got a letter from King Wo? Give it to me!

Are you worried that we'll never be able to return to inner Ayuthay?

Don't worry. Simply walk up to the gate and speak to the guards inside. I'll show you.

Good, for it will now be a simple matter for us to enter. I'll show you.

Are you coming back inside already, Amiti?

Then may you have a safe journey.

You see? The stone gate will now open for us at any time. You mustn't forget, Matthew.

[Ku-Embra] What does it say, General Ku-Tsung?

[Ku-Tsung] King Wo writes that Matthew here has come with his companions to help us with their Psynergy.

[Ku-Embra] Hah! You puny people? Help us with Psynergy?

[Ku-Embra] I'll believe that when I see it! They look like a pack of pups, not powerful Adepts!

[Ku-Tsung] But the letter IS from King Wo. His Majesty cannot be wrong.

[Ku-Embra] In that case, I wonder why His Royal Highness has sent them here...

[Ku-Tsung] His letter promises that they will help us with our assault on Ayuthay.

[Ku-Embra] The king is infallible. But these worms? They're not worth my attention. I need veteran warriors.

[Soldier] Er...excuse me, generals? May I go back to my post outside?

[Ku-Tsung] Hold your tongue, soldier. We'll dismiss you when we're good and ready.
Now, General Ku-Embra, I know of a task we can put to these Adepts.

[Ku-Embra] I won't have Adepts underfoot! They'll only trip up our plans to push deeper into the castle!

[Ku-Tsung] But we can't move deeper until the evil spirits here are exorcised. These Adepts CAN do that, I'm sure.

[Ku-Embra] Ah, yes... Now, that's a good idea, General Ku-Tsung.

[Ku-Tsung] This castle is plagued by all manner of fiends. Clean out the place!

[Ku-Embra] We will be waiting outside while you do the dirty work. Tell us when you're finished.

[Ku-Tsung] Onward!

[Ku-Embra] To victory!

[Soldier] Er, good luck with that. I'll just be outside... where it's less haunted.

[Rief] I heard the laughing when we arrived, but it's gone now.

[Karis] We're not here to actually work for those guys anyway. They can deal with evil spirits themselves.
We just need to find that tree that Baghi mentioned. It's supposed to be in the courtyard here.

Let's watch out for those evil spirits—we wouldn't want them sneaking up on us.

Hey! Evil spirits! Hello?!

Ayuthay is somewhat of a mystery at the moment.
But you know, a journey up the mountains to Passaj might yield more answers.
The leaders of Passaj and Ayuthay do know each other, and their people have shared ancestry.

I believe that we should trek to Passaj to see what more we can find.

Why are you wasting my time when General Ku-Tsung asked for that letter?

Can't you follow orders?! General Ku-Tsung said that HE wants to read that!

[Amiti] Ah, there you are!

[Amiti] We're leaving, guards. Please open the gate.

[Left guard] At once, Your Highness!

[Right guard] We'd already been informed of your departure!

[Left guard] You may now pass through the gate.

[Right guard] You can now come and go as you please.

[Amiti] All right, let's be on our way.

[System Message] You can have up to four characters in battle at a time. The remaining characters will be held in reserve.
You can change your battle lineup by swapping an active character for one currently in reserve.
Swap characters from the menu. To open the menu, tap [lower-right icon with the "X"] in the lower-right portion of the screen.

[System Message] You can also swap characters during combat by choosing [Switch].

[Amiti] Are you worried that we'll never be able to return to inner Ayuthay?

[Amiti] Don't worry. Simply walk up to the gate and speak to the guards inside. I'll show you.

[Amiti] Good, for it will now be a simple matter for us to enter. I'll show you.

[Guard] Are you coming back inside already, Amiti?

[Guard] Then may you have a safe journey.

[Amiti] You see? The stone gate will now open for us at any time. You mustn't forget, Matthew.

[Ku-Tsung] We've found you, vile traitors!

[Ku-Embra] You abandoned your mission to rid this place of evil! For the spirits still laugh at us!

[Ku-Tsung] They have made a mockery of the Kaocho military, General Ku-Embra!

[Ku-Embra] How dare you toy with Kaocho's greatest generals? I cannot tolerate this insolence!

[Ku-Tsung] Nor I.

[Ku-Embra] Now take your punishment, you mongrels!

[Tyrell] I thought you said good things were coming our way, Rief!

[Rief] Well, things were looking up, what with Amiti joining us!

[Amiti] My friends, this may not be the best time to discuss it.

[Karis] He's right! Time to fight!

[Tyrell] We defeated the generals, Matthew!

[Ku-Tsung] So you truly are powerful Adepts...

[Ku-Embra] These young pups beat us...

[Amiti] You never stood a chance against the Adepts, generals.

[Right minister] Kaocho's mightiest heroes... shamed by defeat.

[Left minister] The generals are renowned for their might. Their downfall proves Ayuthay's superiority.

[Tyrell] I'd watch what you say, ministers... These are dangerous days for Ayuthay to brag that it's better than Kaocho.

[Karis] That's right. Our victory might help stop the conflict. You wouldn't want to start new ones.
Now, we should tie up the generals before they can make more trouble!

Ayuthay, lower level (msg_ayty_2f2)

They say that Adepts are descendants of the Jenei. But who can say for sure?

The Kaocho soldiers don't scare us! Once old King Paithos gives the word... we'll send them packing!

The ladders in here go to secret chambers! It's so fun to hide in them and play!

If Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra are tough generals, why are they so scared of spirits anyway?

The Kaocho army is camped in the city. They're sort of just hanging around. I hope they give up and go home.

The Temple of Barai was a big maze? And you heroes made it through? I'm honored to know you!

Were your ancestors really the ancient Jenei?
I wish I'd inherited such power. I just hope you always commit yourself to doing good.
Oh, but it must be so! You carry yourselves in such a refined way. Surely you have a Jenei pedigree!

I heard you're leaving Ayuthay. Is that true?
I wish I'd gotten to know you better! Good-bye, descendants of the Jenei!
Oh, then we'll still be seeing you here a little longer!

We grow up learning that the people of Ayuthay and Passaj all have ancient roots.
The people of Kaocho must have their own roots. So why do they want to take over our countries?

I heard you were leaving. I'd get out of here too, if I could cook up some Psynergy!

Psynergy has been all around us as long as I can remember. That's not long, I guess.
But older people remember a time when Psynergy was rare. They say life was so difficult then!

The changes in the water level might put our food at risk! The water keeps it from spoiling!

The water from our Alchemy Well is nice and cool. We use it to keep food from spoiling!

It's a batch of rice noodles, mixed with shrimp and bean sprouts—a local favorite!

It's sour-and-spicy soup, an Ayuthay specialty.

Now that your quest in Ayuthay is done, will you ever use the Alchemy Well again?
Good! Because I'd like to take the paths that appear only when the water level is down!
No? But you're the only ones who can make the waters recede!

When we heard that Kaocho failed in its assault on Passaj, we weren't nearly as worried.
Still, Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra will never give up. We can't turn our backs on the generals.

Our younger generation doesn't know of a time when Psynergy wasn't around! You too, right?
But if you ask older people, they say it was hard to do anything back then. No one wants a return to the old days!

The water vanished all of a sudden! But if we don't cool our food, it will all rot!

It's grilled meat that smells all crispy and roasty, and it's slathered in sauce too.

It's fried rice mixed with crab meat, sprinkled with salty fish sauce.

This is a shortcut.

You'll see.

[Amiti] Paithos's throne room is up there.

We really should follow Amiti, don't you think?

We really should keep up with Amiti.

Really, we ought to stay close behind Amiti.

[Boy 1] They found the way inside...!

[Girl] How could they not? You kept laughing! Now they know about us!

[Boy 2] We overheard those generals saying they're Adepts.

[Boy 1] They're awake!

[Girl] They can hear us!

[Boy 2] Their eyes are open!

[Amiti] Their eyes are open, but we have not yet opened their eyes...
Welcome, strangers. I'm sorry your arrival was so...jarring.

[Tyrell] What? What happened? Did we pass out or something?

[Amiti] Our giant tree is such a mystery. When you played the flute, it drew you down more powerfully than usual.

[Amiti] Now, strangers. Know that you are most welcome here.

[Tyrell] Well, thanks, I guess. But who are you?

[Boy 1] Who is HE?!

[Girl] How dare you speak to Amiti like that?!

[Boy 2] They can't really be Adepts, can they?

[Rief] We beg your pardon! You're Amiti? Baghi sent us to you!

[Amiti] Oh, Baghi? Now I see... He gave you his Tree Flute!

[Right guard] We can't be certain, Amiti. They might have robbed Baghi.

[Left guard] The children say they saw them deliver a letter from King Wo to his Kaocho generals.

[Boy 1] King Wo sent them to join the generals!

[Girl] To help with Kaocho's attack on Ayuthay!

[Boy 2] But...the generals refused to let them in the army!

[Left guard] What's this?! You were turned away?

[Right guard] Why wouldn't the generals want Adepts in their army?

[Boy 2] They gave them a different job. To purge the evil spirits they've been hearing nearby.

[Girl] Which is just silly. Since it was just those two laughing—when we're supposed to be hiding quietly!

[Boy 1] We're sorry! We were only playing! It just gets so boring.
I suppose you're going to blame us for the statues the generals smashed too!

[Amiti] Ah, I understand everything now.

[Tyrell] Understand what?

[Amiti] All this foolishness about Adepts joining the Kaocho army...
My friends ran to get me, worried that our enemies had found us at last.

[Karis] So that's why the laughing stopped the moment we gave our letter to the generals!

[Boy 1] When we heard you were Adepts...

[Boy 1] Yeah, powerful Adepts...!

[Boy 2] We ran to tell Amiti that you'd all come to Ayuthay!

[Amiti] And just as they told me, you played the Tree Flute. I assumed Baghi had come.

[Rief] We're sorry for the confusion. I swear, we didn't come to aid Kaocho. We came to help Passaj.

[Right guard] So, what do we do with them now, sir?

[Amiti] We should take them... to see Paithos.

[Left guard] Are you sure? Straight to Paithos?

[Boy 1] You mustn't!

[Girl] But these people are outsiders!

[Boy 2] I guess you really must trust these Adepts!

[Tyrell] Well, who's this Paithos then? Is this guy really worth all this security?

[Boy 1] How can he not know?!

[Girl] Paithos is wondrous beyond comprehension!

[Boy 2] How can an Adept not know this?

[Amiti] Please, let's be more patient with our guests... Paithos is our king.

[Right guard] Paithos would want to see any Adepts that came our way.
But we have no proof that they're Adepts, and yet you'd take them to the king?

[Amiti] Adepts are descendants of the Jenei. Thus, by the ancient bonds, we must offer them help and hospitality.

[Amiti] Besides, Paithos has anticipated their arrival. He's been predicting lately that Adepts would arrive in Ayuthay.

[Amiti] I'll lead the way. Please, follow me.

[Amiti] Stay close. Don't stray. I'll be taking a secret path.

[Amiti] This is the secret way to the throne room.

[Amiti] It looks impassable, does it not?

[Amiti] But watch as I play one of our ancient flutes...

[Amiti] Ancient secrets like these still hold such wonder for me!

[Amiti] Such a heavy slab... yet it moves at the sound of a flute!

[Amiti] The ancient Exathi built such things in many of their cities and castles. Such as this...and our great tree!

[Amiti] The throne room isn't far from here. Please, come with me.

Ayuthay, throne room (msg_ayty_4f2)

How it pains me to see Amiti leave Ayuthay.
But restoring our ancient civilization is important.
Ayuthay has lost its brightest light, but the world will surely brighten from his presence.

Don't concern yourselves with those ridiculous Kaocho generals. We'll keep an eye on them.
Just drain Barai Pond, then recover the Insight Glass hidden within the temple.

Amiti is as precious to me as my own children. I cannot bear to say good-bye.

Since our king has put his faith in you, I imagine that he has now... confessed everything?
Ah, but I can tell for myself. Our Amiti always looks so radiant, but now shadows darken his face.
No doubt he now knows the truth of his birth. Perhaps this was not the best time, but now is better than never.
Hmm. That is unfortunate. The truth about Amiti's mother, Veriti, must finally be told.
I was shocked when I learned that Amiti wasn't really conceived through special powers.

I always thought the Alchemy Well had only one function, but now we see what else it does.
Just remember that our people will suffer if they go without water. Never reverse the well for too long.

I can't believe that the Alchemy Well is capable of providing water to far more than just the Ayuthay area!
So if restoring the Alchemy Forge in Passaj can make that happen, I'm sure we'll do anything to help.

Why are you taking our little lord Amiti? Oh, the maidens of Ayuthay will weep bitterly!

So is it true that our little lord Amiti will be accompanying you?
He means the world to us, you know. If he suffers so much as one scratch, we will never forgive you.
Perhaps you are pondering it. He would be a great guide for the Temple of Barai.

King Paithos doesn't wish to see our little lord Amiti depart. How heavy it must weigh on his heart.

King Paithos has been waiting for the coming of the Adepts for a long time. I'm sure he is happy you've finally arrived.

With little lord Amiti leaving, the king will have no one with whom he can open his heart.

King Paithos embodies Ayuthay's unwavering spirit. How it must weigh on him to never show doubt.

[Amiti] Uncle! The Adepts you've been waiting for—they're here!

[Paithos] Come in! Come in!

[Paithos] You have done well, Amiti, son of Veriti!

[Paithos] I have urgent topics to share with you and our guests. Court, I dismiss you!

[Paithos] So these are the Adepts who spoke with General Ku-Tsung?

[Amiti] Indeed, Uncle. My friends, introduce yourselves.

[Tyrell] Me? I'm Tyrell.

[Tyrell] And this here is our leader, Matthew.

[Karis] What an honor to meet you, Your Majesty! I'm Karis!

[Rief] As for me, I'm Rief, Your Majesty.

[Paithos] How far you've come to grace our court, Adepts!

[Amiti] They climbed the heights to Passaj, where they got the Tree Flute. For they came through the ancient tree, you see.

[Paithos] They came through the ancient tree?

[Amiti] Yes, Baghi entrusted them with his Tree Flute. We owe him for delivering the Adepts to us.

[Tyrell] Uh-oh—this guy wants something from us. I can tell!

[Karis] Oh, Tyrell! You shouldn't speak to King Paithos like that!

[Rief] You mustn't, Tyrell!

[Tyrell] What?! Oh, come on! You know I'm no good with this fancy talk!

[Paithos] So blunt! How refreshing! I believe we'll get along perfectly.

[Amiti] Honesty is always welcome in our court.

[Paithos] Then let me get to it! As you have guessed, I have been waiting for your arrival.

[Karis] Waiting...for us?

[Amiti] Not you specifically. For a group of Adepts.

[Paithos] We need Adepts, for the ancient Jenei blessed Ayuthay with a miraculous machine called the Alchemy Well.
When the Jenei sealed Alchemy from the world, our well stopped working.

[Paithos] The Ayuthay people are proud to say that one of our own found a way to restart the Alchemy Well in recent years.

[Amiti] Yes, my dearly departed mother! She discovered that she had powers of Psynergy.
She used her abilities to bring the Alchemy Well back to life, which brought water back to Ayuthay!

[Paithos] Ah, so the tale goes... Everyone here praises Veriti for the miracle.
But there is more to the story, and it involves the identity of Amiti's father.

[Rief] Your Highness, if this topic is too personal, we can leave you be...

[Amiti] What...what do you mean? My mother conceived me through her miraculous power!
I have no father... Do I...?

[Amiti] Please, Uncle! You told me that I was conceived of her power! You told everyone in Ayuthay that!

[Paithos] Now it is time to tell the truth.

[Karis] Er, maybe we shouldn't listen in on family matters like this. So if you'll excuse us...

[Paithos] No, stay. The truth bears on all of you. Listen carefully.

[Paithos] The one who truly fathered Amiti...was an Adept. An exceedingly powerful one.

[Paithos] But I told the Ayuthay people that Veriti was the one who started the Alchemy Well.

[Amiti] Am I to believe my mother wasn't the one who restarted the Alchemy Well? Who saved Ayuthay with its waters?

[Paithos] Your mother possessed no Psynergy.

[Amiti] No, Uncle! You're confused! Why, you have skill with Psynergy! And so did she!

[Paithos] My power? Ah, I can't even get a pebble to do more than tremble. No, I cannot be called an Adept.

[Paithos] And my sister had no Psynergy whatsoever. Your true father was the Adept behind everything.

[Tyrell] Adept this! Adept that! I'm just about fed up!

[Tyrell] Ever since we left the lookout cabin, all we hear is people talking about us Adepts!
Is that how the whole world thinks of us—like we're pulling everyone's strings?!

[Paithos] Not at all, my friends. Still, this Adept was quite mysterious.
He came here like a shadow, saved Ayuthay, then left before we learned his identity.
Only my sister knew him truly. I never saw his face.

[Matthew] ...?

[Karis] What? How is that even possible?

[Tyrell] You never knew who Amiti's dad was?

[Rief] A secret romance! It sounds like something from a fairy tale!

[Amiti] Isn't there anything you can tell me about him?!

[Paithos] My sister fell in love with this Adept at first sight, seemingly the day after he arrived.

[Paithos] Veriti said that he felt the same for her—which is why it was so hard on her when he left.

[Paithos] Soon enough, Veriti found that she was with child. You, Amiti.

[Karis] And you're sure he was an Adept?

[Paithos] He performed so many miracles that there was no doubt of it.

[Amiti] Yes, surely... If my mother did none of those things, then he was our Adept.

[Amiti] For he started the Alchemy Well, then found the Luna Mask that was required to make it operable.

[Paithos] There is a prophecy that Adepts would come to restore an ancient civilization that included much more than Ayuthay.
It was a golden era when all our lands and cities worked as a harmonious whole, not broken into pieces.

[Rief] The restoration of an ancient civilization?

[Karis] We heard a similiar thing while we were in Passaj.
Well, perhaps that Adept was part of this prophecy. He did bring the well to life.

[Paithos] No, he told us that Ayuthay would need to wait years longer until the Adepts of prophecy would come.

[Amiti] Then why did that Adept come to Ayuthay? And what am I, if not my mother's miracle?!

[Paithos] Calm yourself, child. I don't have the answer. Veriti may have known, but she took his secrets with her.

[Rief] But if your Alchemy Well is already pumping water, why does Ayuthay need us?

[Paithos] Yes, you've waited patiently to hear how you come into this story. That Adept left his work half done.

[Paithos] I cannot blame your impatience. For here's how you come into this story. That Adept left his work half done.

[Paithos] No tears—not yet. For it's not a sad story now that you're here. That Adept left his work half done.

[Paithos] Yes, you've waited patiently to hear how you enter into this story! That Adept left his work half done!

[Paithos] He got our Alchemy Well working again, but if the legends are true, the well can do immeasurably more!

[Amiti] Twenty years ago, Ayuthay was on the verge of being lost to the desert. Our well has made it lush and green.

[Amiti] But farther away, the land is still falling to waste and desolation.

[Amiti] Legends say that our well once fed waters far beyond Ayuthay, to all Ei-Jei—even all the way to Harapa!

[Paithos] The Alchemy Forge up in Passaj once pumped the waters. Their machine is dead—and so Ei-Jei is dry and dying.

[Amiti] The machines are named as a pair, you see.

[Amiti] When both machines are running, they work in harmony to benefit this whole part of the world!

[Paithos] I had placed all my hopes on that mysterious Adept. But he has been gone so long...

[Paithos] So I had all but given up on the Jenei prophecy. Until I heard of a new group of Adepts at our door!

[Paithos] No doubt, you are the Adepts who will bring our ancient civilization back to life.

[Tyrell] Do you really think that we're the Adepts in this prophecy, Matthew?

[Tyrell] You're right. It's unlikely, but it sounds like King Paithos really thinks that we could help.

[Tyrell] I know it's bizarre, but it sounds like King Paithos really thinks that we could help.

[Tyrell] I know it's overwhelming, but it sounds like King Paithos really thinks that we could help.

[Tyrell] You're right! King Paithos really thinks that we could help, and we are pretty good Adepts!

[Karis] So, if we finish fixing the Alchemy Forge, we'll restore this whole area to its ancient glory?

[Rief] When you put it like that, it sounds like we've already fulfilled half of the prophecy!

[Paithos] What?! Did you already fix the forge while you were in Passaj?!

[Amiti] That's wonderful!

[Karis] Well, it's powered up, but we can't use it. When we started the forge, the shape of a mask appeared...

[Paithos] That happened when our Alchemy Well was first started!

[Amiti] Ah, Uncle! It's not hard to guess what mask they will need!

[Paithos] The Sol Mask, I presume?

[Amiti] The well and the forge have many similarities, so I believe that you're right!

[Tyrell] Well, it's time that you help US then! We've been looking for that mask!

[Amiti] After the Alchemy Well was started, we needed something called the Luna Mask to operate the machine.

[Paithos] Luna is the moon...so if you need a companion mask, surely you must need a Sol Mask.

[Paithos] Legend tells of a Sol Mask hidden in the Ouroboros, a place our ancestors helped construct.
It is under Kaocho, but it's impossible to find its true entrance, let alone do what must be done to enter.
If you must go there, I must reveal a treasure we have guarded in Ayuthay since ancient times.

[Rief] And what is that? Please, tell us!

[Amiti] It is the Insight Glass, the object that will help you solve the puzzle of the Ouroboros.

[Rief] What is the Insight Glass?

[Paithos] It is an object that opens a window upon inner truths. It can...show the way forward.

[Karis] A window upon inner truths? What, does the Insight Glass let you see the future?

[Paithos] We don't know exactly. Only the Jenei could use it, so we have kept it hidden until the right time.

[Amiti] May I go with the Adepts in search of the Insight Glass?

[Tyrell] Hold on. Just where are we going now?

[Paithos] The Insight Glass is hidden within our Temple of Barai, which is currently underwater.

[Karis] A temple that's underwater?

[Amiti] The temple is submerged under Barai Pond, outside the city walls.

[Paithos] Surely our pond water won't stand in the way of mighty Adepts like you, will it?

[Tyrell] Yeah, I'm curious to see an underwater temple too!

[Tyrell] What, you don't want to go near the water? Well, I hate that even more, but you don't see me complaining!

[Tyrell] I'm not jumping at the chance to get wet, but I would have thought you'd be a little more curious.

[Tyrell] You're that excited to jump into the pond? Well, I wasn't looking forward to it, but I am now!

[Amiti] The Temple of Barai is said to be dazzling.

[Rief] So you've never seen the inside?

[Paithos] When the Alchemy Well was turned on, the pond flooded, and so did most of the temple.

[Amiti] The temple remains underwater today. I've never seen the inside during my lifetime.

[Paithos] So to get inside, you'll need to figure out a way around all that water.

[Karis] Like sucking the water back out, maybe?

[Amiti] We have heard that it's possible to reverse the flow of our Alchemy Well.

[Paithos] I'm sure that the moment you see it, you'll know exactly what to do, Adepts!

[Amiti] I can help them while they're in Ayuthay, Uncle.

[Amiti] The city hidden down here can baffle visitors. You can find your way there back the way we came.

[Paithos] Our Amiti will surely be useful to you. Good luck.

[Tyrell] So now we're braving the submerged Temple of Barai!

[Rief] There must be some way we can use the Alchemy Well to drain the pond waters outside the castle.

[Amiti] We just need to find some way to put it in reverse.

[Karis] We turned on one machine, so we must be able to put one in reverse too!

[Karis] Right! If anyone can do it, WE can!

[Karis] Oh, don't worry. I'm sure we can do it, Matthew!

[Karis] Oh, don't doubt us, Matthew! I'm sure that we can do it!

[Karis] Right! We're excellent Adepts, so let's show everyone what we're made of!

[Karis] Your Highness, you can count on us to figure out how to reverse the flow from the Alchemy Well.

[Paithos] Then you have my leave! Return when you have completed your task!

Ayuthay, center complex (msg_ayty_center)

I hear you're leaving Ayuthay. You must be fond of traveling! Please come back and visit.

I'm so happy I was able to pass through and see the Temple of Barai, if only for a while.
Perhaps the waters will recede again so I can return to the temple!

Paithos predicted you Adepts would come. Do you think his other predictions will come to pass?
Ah, then the waters of the pond WILL be drained by the Alchemy Well! How wonderful!
Then I can gaze upon the glorious Temple of Barai with my own eyes once more!
Hmm, too bad. The king's ideas usually bear such ripe fruit.

I've heard Amiti is leaving us. All the girls of our country will be very sad. As will we all, of course!

The Barai pond is now full, but its waters were drained so easily that I bet it could be done again.

Paithos once told my husband that the Barai pond waters can be drained! But how could anyone do that?

So you used the Alchemy Well to lower the water? Then you visited the temple? I wish you had taken me!

I'm relieved the Barai pond has been filled. One can never overestimate the value of water.

Amiti used to keep the Luna Mask, because it's said only Adepts could use it.
Paithos possesses some Psynergy, but I guess it's not enough. So Amiti must be powerful!

How long will the Kaocho invaders occupy our land? I wish you could make them all go away.

Just when I get used to the water being OUT of the pond, you go and put it back IN. Make up your mind!

Since ancient times, our people have hidden down here when calamity comes to Ayuthay.
Fortunately, it's such a lovely shelter that we don't mind going about our lives underground.

You're Matthew, aren't you?
The Kaocho generals have ordered their soldiers to hunt you down! Be careful! You've made them angry!
If you see this Matthew fellow, tell him the Kaocho generals are trying to hunt him down!

Did you hear that sound just a little while ago...? It was the water rushing out of the pond!
And the sound after that must have been the water rushing back in!

If you want to leave Ayuthay, head up one floor, then find the room at the south end with the ladder!
But the guards at the top of that ladder won't let anyone in or out unless they have permission.

Why is Amiti leaving us? It's not fair. I'd like to go too!

When the Alchemy Well started, the ground shook and shook! I'm surprised the machine didn't break!

The water in the pond was gone one moment, back the next! How can water be so jumpy?

Is your name Matthew?
I've heard that the Kaocho generals are looking for you!
No? Well, I don't know who this Matthew person is, but the Kaocho generals want to see him!

It's been a world of fun for us since you showed up! Sure you have to go?

Did you put the water back in the pond? There was a nice path and everything down there!

I wish we could go down there! Do you Adepts know any way to mop up a whole pond?

Please don't take our Amiti with you. I'll try to behave better if he stays here with us!

We saw the path down there! And we were thinking of finding out where it went...when the water returned!

If all this water went away, I bet we'd find secret paths! Then we could really make mischief!

The generals saw you go into the Temple of Barai, Matthew!
They ordered the troops to bring you back, because they want to finish you off once and for all!

The Kaocho soldiers went to put the water back in the pond!

The soldiers have set up camp outside and have no idea that there's so much more of Ayuthay!

I hear you plan to leave Ayuthay. You must be fond of traveling, so I hope you come back and visit.

You reversed the Alchemy Well and made the water go down? What a wonderful machine!
At long last, I can finally visit the Temple of Barai!

I've heard that Amiti is leaving Ayuthay. Everyone will miss him terribly.

The water in the Barai pond has been drawn down! I've never seen the level so low before.
If the water doesn't return, Ayuthay might be in serious trouble... What will people drink?!

You lowered the waters with the Alchemy Well so you could visit the temple? I wish I could have gone!

The Barai pond waters have receded! Shocking, I tell you!

How long will the Kaocho soldiers occupy our country? Chase them out of here, if you can!

Everything started shaking, and then I heard a rushing sound! I think it came from the Barai pond!

Hey, are you Matthew?
I don't know WHAT you did, but the generals gave orders for you to be rounded up. Be careful out there!
If you see this Matthew person, warn him that the Kaocho generals are on the hunt for him.

Some Kaocho soldiers saw that the water in the Barai pond went away, so they went to check it out!

Why is Amiti going with you? I thought we were the only ones allowed to help him around!

When the Alchemy Well started up, the ground began shaking and shaking! I'm surprised the machine didn't break.

The Kaocho soldiers are worried about the pond water disappearing. Not very gutsy, are they?

It's been lots of fun for us since you all showed up. Do you really have to go?

Now that the water has gone away, you can get into that passage down there!

I can't believe that Amiti is leaving with you Adepts! I'll try to behave if he stays here!

Look down there! With all the water gone, a passage was revealed! I wonder where it leads!

Watch out, Matthew! The generals saw you go into the temple!
I heard them order their troops to find you! They want to deal with you once and for all!

The Kaocho soldiers were surprised to see the water drain from the pond outside!
Good thing you're down here with us where it's safe, Matthew.

It feels like ages since we last saw you in Ayuthay!

The soldiers that were around the big pond outside...
I don't like to think about it.

Those two Kaocho generals were on the loose when the eclipse happened. I wonder what happened to them.

With the world the way it is, you'll be leaving soon to save it. And taking our Amiti again too...

Did the Insight Glass come in handy?
The Insight Glass was sure to be useful. Given that your journey isn't over, I'm sure it will still prove its worth.
No, I can't believe it! Surely, you're having a joke at my expense!

I always thought the Grave Eclipse was merely a legend.
Fortunately, our Alchemy Well area is a great shelter. But Ayuthay can't keep going like this.

Weren't these the guys hiking all the way over the Khiren Mountains? And they're back already?!

The Kaocho occupation around Ayuthay did come to an end, I guess. But no one deserved THAT fate.

I was never a fan of general Ku-Embra or Ku-Tsung, but I bet they fought valiantly when the end came.

I heard that Amiti has turned out to be a fierce warrior! I'm so proud!

Our greatest secret is that Ayuthay hid the Insight Glass—so secret, that I've never known what it actually is!

We must be ready for the possibility that the monsters may find their way inside.

We descendants of the Exathi have endured years of hardship, unlike the Fori.

People all over the kingdom talk about some big treasure being stashed here.
What I wouldn't do to get that treasure for myself!

Our defenses have been a lifesaver. It makes getting fresh goods tough, but at least I can sell what I have!

Things are bleak now that the world has been plunged into darkness.
What else can you do in such times but pray to the heavens for mercy!

It feels like years since we last saw you around here!

How did you ever make it back to Ayuthay with all those monsters roaming the land?!

Who...who are you? Sorry, I'm still stunned by the state of things. First, Kaocho invaded. And now this...

Hey, last we heard, you were trying to cross over the Khiren Mountains! Now you've returned to us!

I have to commend you and your friends, Matthew. How courageous you are, going among the monsters.

You wouldn't believe the terrible sounds we heard when the monsters first came...

Ayuthay, interior rooms (msg_ayty_room)

They told us to stop our work. I suppose there's no point in cutting stone at a time like this.

I need to stay busy to take my mind off what's happening. But we can't work right now.

What happened outside? Do you know?
Well, it baffles me why Sol and Luna should have such a falling out that monsters show up!
What a world! Even the greatest warriors I know don't have an explanation for this chaos!

I can't bear the thought that everything we've built up may just come tumbling down...

It's so hard to stay shut away like this with nothing to do.

I've spent most all my years pounding away at stone, trying to help Ayuthay prosper. And now I have to stop?

I should get some sleep, since I don't have to work. But I'm not tired, since I can't work. What a dilemma.

This monumental event should be recorded in stone so that future generations learn of this evil eclipse.

We can't keep going on like this. We just CAN'T.

It's hard to keep these fellows calm. They're used to working all day long.

There was...something I was readying for you. It may have come in handy... but alas, I cannot yet give it to you.

Paithos knew of the legendary evils that are again plaguing the land. He hurried everyone inside to safety.

How dashing you've become, Amiti! I think of you all the time these days!

In the sad event that Paithos has passed while you're away, I'll be here to advise you when you return.

We're so happy to see you safe and sound, Amiti. But we know your travels aren't over yet. Be careful.

At some point...I really should say that the treasure of Ayuthay is in the room beneath my throne...

There's a lesson to be learned in the old stories of the Grave Eclipse. Hopefully someone learns it.

Hopefully Amiti and his friends can reverse the grim fate that has befallen the world...

Just having Amiti home again has brought some light back to Ayuthay.

In the tragic event that Paithos passes away, I'll be the one who will advise Amiti when he returns.

As long as the king lets everyone stay here for free, my inn's not going to do a lot of business...

They told us to stop our work. I suppose there's no point in cutting stone at a time like this.

In the tragic event that Paithos passes away, I'll be the one who will advise Amiti when he returns.

I guess I can't complain that the king ordered everyone to stay down here with him, but I'm losing a fortune...

You people reversed the Alchemy Well? You have some surprising talents!

After the Golden Sun event 30 years ago, the Ayuthay have grown gradually richer!
Stonecutters like us are now in great demand wherever we go!

You let the water out of the Barai pond, right? I took a break from stoneworking to look at the temple.

The things we were never taught, we just make up on the fly. That's what true genius is!

When the Temple of Barai appeared from the water, I wept tears of joy! What masters its builders were!

Our people have always been skilled at stonework. In ancient times, we were true masters. Even the Jenei came our way!

I thought WE had serious talent until I gazed upon the Temple of Barai. It's beyond brilliant.

I wonder who the better craftsmen are, the stoneworkers of Ayuthay or the smiths of Passaj?

The Temple of Barai is a masterpiece. When I saw the temple emerge from the water, I couldn't stop singing its praises!

Our ancestors, the Exathi, were remarkably skilled at working with stone.
The Exathi made so many masterpieces! We're still pretty good today, of course.

Our Amiti already seems like a changed man. He's well on his way to being a great warrior!

There must be a good reason why you put the water back in the Barai pond. I hope you tell me why someday!

I've heard you came to Ayuthay by way of Passaj and Kaocho! What world travelers you are!

Seeing Amiti suit up for battle makes me a little sad... Like he's not one of us anymore.

Was there something valuable in the Temple of Barai?
Well, only Adepts as skillful as you could have found anything in there after so many long years!
Nothing, really? I guess that doesn't surprise me, since treasure hunters cleaned out the temple years ago.

Are you all warriors seeking to hone your skills here in Ayuthay?
You have the auras of true warriors. I bet you've been practicing since you were very young!
Well that can't be... You have the auras of warriors! I'm sure you're on the warrior's path but don't know it.

You are the ones who reversed the Alchemy Well! How impressive!

After the Golden Sun dawned 30 years ago, Ayuthay began to change, becoming ever richer.
We stonecutters are in high demand. Everyone wants us to make sturdy, lasting testaments to our glory!

You people let the water out of the Barai pond, right? I took a break to visit the temple for a while!

What we're not taught, we figure out on the fly. That's what makes us true geniuses of our craft!

When the Temple of Barai emerged from the water, tears came to my eyes... Such mastery is overpowering!

Our people have always been gifted stoneworkers. In ancient times, even the Jenei came to Ayuthay for our skills!

I thought we were the most skillful stoneworkers who ever lived, but then I saw the beautiful Temple of Barai.

I wonder who'd win a craftsman duel...the Ayuthay stoneworkers or the smiths of Passaj?

The Temple of Barai is the kind of masterpiece that makes you cry out in joy every time you see it!

Our ancestors, the Exathi, had a masterful knack for stonework.
Everything they made was a stunning triumph!

Our Amiti already seems like a great warrior! I'm so proud of him.

You're the people who let the water out of the pond! Now you're going to the Temple of Barai? What adventure!

It saddens me to see Amiti equipped for battle. I feel like we're losing him forever.

Are you planning to visit the Temple of Barai?
Treasure hunters say that the temple was picked over long ago. But you Adepts might find something!
Well, why not? I hope to go sometime, now that the water has receded!

[Paithos] Ah...Matthew and his friends have returned...

[Amiti] Uncle! I am here too! What is wrong?

[Paithos] Uncle...? I'm afraid I won't be your uncle for much longer. Paithos shall soon wither away...

[Amiti] The Grave Eclipse must be doing this!

[Paithos] My reign is coming to an end. But you look ready to rule. I'm happy to...step down...

[Amiti] Uncle, no! I cannot stay! We have important things left to do! And I... may not survive what is to come!

[Paithos] Then I cannot go. Not until you return to me safely, Amiti.

[Amiti] Then hold on, Uncle. We'll be back, I promise you.

[Paithos] I'm relying on you, Matthew. Keep Amiti safe.

Alchemy Well (msg_alcm_wel)

The Sand Prince Stone can be used only by Fire Adepts. Equip it to gain Arid Heat Psynergy.

The Luna Mask has been installed here.

You start going a little batty when you spend too long cramped up with one of these Alchemy Machines.

Oh! Never seeing the sun or moon, or even feeling a single breeze. This is no way to live.

I can't get the noise out of my head, cooped up here with that crummy machine!

I'm sure everyone appreciates the safety this place affords us. But the complaints are getting out of hand.

Maybe it's better if I don't hear about what's happening outside...

I wonder if I'll ever be able to go outside. I can't imagine never pulling fruit down from a tree ever again.

Some people can't stand being near the Alchemy Well, but I think it's fun in here. Like a playground!

What kind of job is this for a guard, just standing around? I'm getting a backache!

There's not enough in here to keep my mind occupied. I'm going a little stir-crazy.

I always thought the Alchemy Well was soothing. But oh, my poor ears! That machine makes SUCH a racket!

People always said that this room was beautifully illuminated. Me, I'd rather see the sun again.

I hope that someday I can go outside again. I'd like to have my own adventures!

Ayuthay grew some of the best fruits in the world. Now I can only dream about eating such tasty treats.

People complain that I'm just causing trouble down here. But what else is there to do?!

The Luna Mask has been installed here.

Here sleeps the Sand Prince. Beware the royal guardian if you cannot prove yourself in battle.

[Amiti] This chamber houses our fabulous Alchemy Well.

[Amiti] It blends the elements of earth and wind to create the water that flows into Barai Pond.

[Rief] So we have to put the machine in reverse somehow. But how?

[Amiti] The Alchemy Well was started with Psynergy...

[Amiti] Perhaps another kind of Psynergy would work.

[Amiti] What did you do to start the Alchemy Forge?

[Amiti] The Jenei made our Alchemy Well, so hopefully you can tap into similar thinking here.

[Tyrell] Yeah, we fired that thing up pretty easily, so I bet we can figure this machine out too.

[Amiti] I hope it isn't too much trouble for you all to do this.

[Karis] I'm sure we can do it, but what do you think, Matthew?

[Karis] I agree! We didn't know how deep we would get drawn into all this, but it's up to us now.

[Karis] We've achieved so much already, Matthew! I'm sure we can do it!

[Karis] Don't pull your head into your shell! We've got work to do!

[Karis] I agree! We didn't know how much everyone would come to rely on us, but we're happy to help!

[Amiti] Then you truly will help us?

[Amiti] I'm so very grateful, my fr-fr-friends...

[Rief] What's wrong, Amiti?

[Amiti] A voice... In my head...!

[Amiti] It said, "The Sand Prince welcomes us..."

[Amiti] I think the voice came from nearby. Ah, it is saying more!
"Release me from my bonds. I will drink the pond dry."

[Tyrell] Drink it dry? That sounds sort of like what we're trying to do!

[Rief] Whoever is speaking to you, Amiti, he must know that we're trying to reverse the well!

[Amiti] He is saying more! "The Sand Prince must sleep no more..."
How strange! I'm sure that I've heard such a phrase in Ayuthay before!

[Amiti] It must be related to reversing the Alchemy Well in some way.

[Karis] What do you think? Should we search around here to find this sleeping Sand Prince?
Then let's try to find our way to where the voice came from!
Then let's head deeper inside this area to see if we can find some way to reverse the well.

[Rief] Now the people of Ayuthay can rest easy.

[Rief] The flow has stopped, and the water level has dropped!

[Amiti] We've done it!

[Karis] But with the flow in reverse, the people of Ayuthay are going without water.
So let's find the Insight Glass in the Temple of Barai as fast as we can, then return here to restore their water!

WHEN THE FACE GAZES UPON AN EMPTY VESSEL@ THE GREAT FLOW SHALL BE REVERSED@
WHEN THE FACE GAZES UPON AN EMPTY VESSEL, THE GREAT FLOW SHALL BE REVERSED.

That gemstone must be imbued with the Sand Prince's power! It will surely grant new Psynergy.

I'm sure if someone equips it, we'll have the Psynergy to put the Alchemy Well in reverse!

Look! The water is pulling back!

Excellent! Success!

Now that the water is out of the pond, the people of Ayuthay will be worried. Let's hurry back to the temple of Barai!

WHEN THE MUSIC OF THE TREES BLOWS THROUGH@ THE FIERCE PRINCE SHALL AWAKEN@
WHEN THE MUSIC OF THE TREES BLOWS THROUGH, THE FIERCE PRINCE SHALL AWAKEN.

A peculiar rock has been placed here, as if it serves some purpose.

[Sand Prince] Children of the Jenei, I'm impressed that you have made it here.

[Sand Prince] You seek the power that can reverse the Alchemy Well.
Then you must take my power and seal it in a gemstone to use it as your own.

[Sand Prince] I have waited for ages for an opportunity to share my power.

[Sand Prince] Though you must first demonstrate that you are worthy of my power. You must defeat me, young ones.

[Sand Prince] Now, show me what you can do, and I will show you the gemstone you require!

[Sand Prince] Impressive, children of the Jenei! You have proved yourselves fit to carry away my power.

[System Message] The Sand Prince Stone can be used only by Fire Adepts. Equip it to gain Arid Heat Psynergy.

[Amiti] With that gemstone, I'm sure you can acquire the Psynergy to put the Alchemy Well in reverse.

Barai Temple (msg_barai)

WHEN WATER POURS INTO THE POOL, THE PATH TO AN ANCIENT RELIC SHALL OPEN UPON ITS SURFACE.

The party looks into the chest...
and finds nothing more than a letter.
Would you like to read it?

Matthew reads the letter.
You have done well to delve this deep, Adepts. Yet what you seek is not here.
You must probe further, until you find the true depths of the temple.

Maybe the Insight Glass and the power it grants would be of some use right now.

Maybe the Insight Glass and the power it grants would be of some use right now.

Maybe the Insight Glass and the power it grants would be of some use right now.

Barai Temple, bottom floor (msg_barai_2b1)

[Voice] You have reached the true sanctum, Adepts, where you will now gain the ancient sight of the Jenei.

[Ward] Those who possess the Insight Glass must heed a dire Jenei warning.

[Ward] Alchemy must never be restored to the world.

[Ward] It would bring the ruin of all things. The one who possesses the Insight Glass must help fight the return of Alchemy.

[Ward] Insight Psynergy will grant you the vision to see what should be done next. To see solutions.

[Ward] But this powerful object has a will of its own and chooses who shall possess it.

[System Message] Amiti got the Insight Glass.

[Ward] Now, attempt using Insight Psynergy.

[Amiti] Here goes...

[Karis] What was THAT? Is it saying that I should use Whirlwind Psynergy here?

[Ward] Insight Psynergy grants a view of objects and people that can help you find a way forward.

[Matthew] ?!

[Karis] What an amazing power... And how curious that the Insight Glass chose its owner!

[Tyrell] And it's Amiti? Hey! Why can't it be me?

[Rief] How odd that the Insight Glass would choose Amiti, out of all us Adepts.

[Amiti] I'm honored, of course! But I cannot say why it would choose me over any of you!

[Karis] Well, who knows why it turned the rest of us down.

[Karis] At least we found the Insight Glass, so let's return to King Paithos!

Ayuthay, lower halls (msg_ayty_1b1)

Maybe our jail will finally get some use, given all those Kaocho soldiers milling around outside.

I'm glad the Kaocho generals are locked up. I have to admit they're pretty intimidating.
They look really tough, so if you beat them, that makes you the toughest people I know!

I don't know why we even guard this place. It's not like Ayuthay has any criminals!

The high and mighty generals, Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra, here in our prison! It doesn't get any better than that.

This defeat doesn't tarnish my honor, Matthew.
It's rare to face a great foe in combat, and I'll never forget you Adepts for the rest of my life.

You dogs! You worms! I can't accept that I lost to Adepts! I'll take this shame to my grave...

The door is locked.

The door is locked.

We can't let our guard down for even one second. Or else the monsters may get through.

Remember the generals you defeated?
We were keeping them locked up, but when the eclipse came, we felt that we had to let them free.
I think they actually tried to rally their army against us again... when the monsters came.
No? Well, Ku-Tsung and Ku-Embra were Kaocho's top generals. And they didn't give up until...the end.

King Paithos said that the monsters would not come here. But we'll keep protecting it, just in case.

Maybe it was a bad idea to free the Kaocho generals. They met a grim fate outside.

[Paithos] Ah, here you are at last. I've been waiting, Matthew.

[Amiti] Why have you come, Uncle?

[Paithos] I am worried that you won't find the ancient Insight Glass. It has been hidden for so very long!

[Paithos] Ah, but I can see the pride beaming on your faces! But how about you, Matthew?

[Karis] Well, Matthew is just as happy as the rest of us, of course!

[Karis] Oh, Matthew is probably just trying to keep it a secret! He's so mischievous sometimes!

[Karis] Oh, Matthew is probably just trying to keep it under wraps! He's so mischievous sometimes!

[Karis] Well, Matthew is just as delighted as the rest of us, of course!

[Paithos] What?! Could it be that you already have the Insight Glass?! Then you must truly be descendants of the Jenei!

[Paithos] How fortunate that you got to see these great Adepts at work, Amiti.

[Paithos] Just to accompany them must have been quite an honor.

[Amiti] Yes, Matthew and his friends are true warriors. I only wish that I could have helped their party more.

[Paithos] Still, you do look strangely pleased with yourself, Amiti. You must have helped a little.

[Amiti] Truth be told, I was thrilled to spend time with them! I've never known such excitement!

[Tyrell] Adventure pretty much follows us around, Amiti.

[Karis] But now we need to be going, I'm sorry to say.

[Paithos] Truly? So soon?

[Rief] Our friends Kraden and Nowell are waiting for us.

[Karis] We need to get the Sol Mask from the Ouroboros, so we can finally get the Alchemy Forge working properly.
The forge will help restore your ancient civilization, bringing water throughout this whole region...
But it will also create that cloud passage that we need to cross the Khiren Mountains.

[Paithos] The ancients were said to cross from Passaj to Craggy Peak... Perhaps there is truth to the legends.

[Tyrell] We have to give it a try. So we've got to be going.

[Paithos] Is something troubling you, Amiti?

[Amiti] I was chosen to use the Insight Glass. So I too must go to the Ouroboros.

[Paithos] I do not understand, Amiti. What do you mean?

[Tyrell] Yeah, it's crazy! The Insight Glass could think for itself and chose who could use it. It chose him!

[Paithos] The...Insight Glass could think? What do you mean, it chose you? This cannot be, Amiti!

[Karis] The Jenei put this into motion long ago. They must have wanted it to choose someone from Ayuthay.

[Karis] That must also be why they let the Ayuthay people use the Temple of Barai.

[Karis] And why the temple was founded in Ayuthay to begin with!

[Amiti] The meaning of my life has suddenly become clear at last.

[Paithos] So the Jenei left the Insight Glass in the temple...so we could inherit it?

[Rief] I understand you must be shocked. But now we'll need Amiti's help if we are to recover the Sol Mask.

[Tyrell] Though Amiti is your sister's son, I can see you treat him like your own kid. But we, uh...need to borrow him.

[Karis] He's absolutely shocked! What should we do?

[Karis] What, you think he'll eventually warm up to the idea?

[Karis] What, you think we should just take him, even if Paithos forbids it?

[Karis] Yeah, we are stuck if Amiti doesn't come with us. And then we might not get the Sol Mask!

[Karis] Way to be confident! I suppose that even if Amiti can't come with us, we'll get things done somehow!

[Amiti] We can't rely entirely on you kind people to fix the problems plaguing our Ei-Jei region.

[Amiti] I must go... Paithos cannot stop me.

[Amiti] We can leave, Matthew.

[Paithos] Wait, Amiti, I command you!

[Amiti] You would stop me, after all that's been said?

[Paithos] That is not my intention.

[Paithos] Your convictions have convinced me. Go. Walk the path you have chosen, Amiti. You are one of them now.

[Amiti] Farewell, Uncle.

[Paithos] You leave with my blessing. Be careful. I never thought to prepare you for such a journey.

[Matthew] ...?

[Karis] We promise to bring Amiti back safe and sound to you!

[Tyrell] Yeah, leave it to us!

[Rief] We're grateful for how generous you've been with us all.

[Paithos] Ah, my dear child. You'll be a man the next time we meet.

[Amiti] I will do my best, Uncle.

[Paithos] Now, my ministers! We must return to the throne room!

[Right minister] Yes, Your Majesty.

[Left minister] Of course, Your Majesty.

[Paithos] Tell the gate guards that these trusted people may leave the city. They are forever friends of ours!

[Right minister] Right away, Your Majesty.

[Paithos] Now you will be able to leave Ayuthay. I hope you find success.

[Rief] A member of the royal family, joining our party? That is quite a surprising development.

[Tyrell] You're still a great mystery, Amiti. I mean, your father was a powerful Adept! Who could he have been?

[Karis] Don't you think it's practically fate that Amiti joined us?
Yes, I figured you'd agree! I already can't imagine our party without him.
But if it's not fate, I wonder why I feel like we were supposed to meet him?

[Amiti] Let's be on our way, friends. My new life awaits!

[Tyrell] Ha! Our royal buddy will learn soon enough that our life isn't all golden pillows and royal servants!

[Rief] But it's rather fun, isn't it? Having new members? Good things keep coming to us!

[Tyrell] I hope so... Good things on the way? OK, sign me up.

[Karis] But, Amiti, you will need to do something about your clothes.

[Amiti] What's wrong with what I'm wearing?

[Rief] Well, you're a bit... underdressed.

[Amiti] Hmm. I suppose I would stand out.

[Tyrell] Hey, no one stands out more than I do. We just don't want you to freeze up in the mountains!

[Amiti] In that case, I'm going to leave you and go change into traveling clothes.
When you're finished in Ayuthay, meet me at the gate that leads outside.
To get there, head to the uppermost level of inner Ayuthay, then find the ladder room on the south end.
I'll be at the top of the ladder with the gate guards.

[Karis] Now that we have what we need, let's change the flow of the Alchemy Well back to normal.
