Golden Sun: Dark Dawn/Side Scripts/Te Rya

From Golden Sun Universe

These pages compile almost all incidental NPC dialogue, both spoken and accessed with Spirit Sense, that exist separately from the "main cutscenes" in Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. This can be used as a reference to more easily look up all optional gossip at each settlement in the game without painstakingly talking to each NPC and casting the Spirit Sense Psynergy on them. Some technically optional dialogue the player is very likely to read is omitted. All text in italics is conveyed through Spirit Sense.

Te Rya Village (initial visit)

Ryu Kou, subdued at southwest exit
...
Hou Zan at southwest exit
Please. Go now.
Woman in green at bottom-center
If you are new to Te Rya village, you will find the air thin and may have to breathe hard. I am sorry.
We came here from Morgal, following our flocks. They don't mind the air.
Woman in front of inn
Did you come from the south?
[Yes] We tried going south, but we couldn't find a path down out of the mountains.
[No] Hmm... You're clearly not of the eastern Sanans, nor from Morgal to the north. You're...special.
Innkeper
Inside is nice and warm, even in this cold. We nomads build 'em cozy and strong!
Sheep
Baaa.
Sheared sheep
B-b-baaa.
Left man near gravestones
Belinsk Castle is impregnable. Those mercenaries were crazy to even try attacking it.
Right man near gravestones
I hope you are as impressive as our last two visitors, the young man and his old friend. Have you met them?
[Yes] The young man is Ryu Kou, and the older one is Hou Zan.
They watch the village entrance because they're being pursued. But they let you in, so you're OK.
[No] The young man is educated and the object of much affection from young women around here.
The older man is just as educated, but he speaks with the wisdom of experience as well.
Man gathering water
I came to collect some of Khiren's water, and a village seems to have sprung up overnight!
Woman at water
Morgal is peopled mostly with beastmen. They're stronger and have better noses than humans.
Man outside lower-central tent
Belinsk, the capital of Morgal, sits on the water. The city is both beautiful and well defended.
Man standing watch at north exit
You're wondering if I saw a girl pass by here?
[Yes] Can't say I have. Try asking around town, maybe?
[No] Oh. Well, if you are looking for someone, ask around town.
Male shopkeeper
When we had to move the shop all the way to Te Rya, I was worried. So far, customers keep coming, though...
Female shopkeeper
Are you guys headed to Morgal?
[Yes] If you go to Morgal, be sure to see the capital, Belinsk. The city is soooo beautiful, and the food is amazing!
[No] Oh, you want to go to Bilibin? You can't really get there from Morgal on account of the war.
Left injured mercenary
It's a shame that we can't help Hou Ju, but the trip alone exhausted me...
Right injured mercenary
Man, that was a rough trip, and Belinsk Castle is a fortress! There's really nothing we can do for Hou Ju...
Man in far right tent
Our dear friend Hou Ju's bag is missing. If you happen to find an elegant bag, would you let us know?
[Yes] Thank you. It probably sounds a bit crazy, us all worrying about this bag, but it's important to Hou Ju.
[No] Yeah, it's probably wise of you to avoid the Teppe ruins, what with all the vicious tundra wasps.
Woman in far right tent
I looked all over the part of the Teppe ruins I could get to, but I couldn't find Hou Ju's bag...
Hou Zan in mercenaries' tent
This is where the villagers tend to the injured. Undoubtedly they would appreciate some quiet...
Ryu Kou in mercenaries' tent
You have no business in this room. Please leave, and try not to touch the injured on your way.

Te Rya Village (subsequent visit)

Ryu Kou at top end
We're busy right now.
Hou Zan at top end
We have matters to discuss. Please leave us alone.
Man at top end
You cannot pass!
Woman in green at bottom-center
If it's Ryu Kou you're looking for, he's not here. You want to know where he went?
I don't know, and there's little hope of finding him. As a fugitive, he is good at covering his tracks.
Ryu Kou and Hou Zan were looking pretty grim. I'm a little worried.
Woman in front of inn
It may seem odd that the whole village is so upset about Hou Ju and her bag...
But we all love Hou Ju, and since her capture, it feels like finding her bag is the one way we can help her.
Woman in lavender at gravestones
Haaaah... Getting here used up the last of my energy...
Woman at water
Hou Ju being trapped in Belinsk beyond all help has the whole town terribly frustrated.
Man outside lower-central tent
The Khiren highlands have been civilized for a while, yet there's nobody there. Know why?
[Yes] The Khiren War started 20 years ago and only ended a few years ago. Tempers still run pretty hot about it.
In the old days, we never had wars like that. Now we have to leave a big empty spot between two countries.
[No] These highlands are the main battleground in a land grab between the northerners and the easterners.
Finally, they figured out that all they were doing was dying. Now the highlands are neutral and everyone stays out.
Male shopkeeper
We've got some really good deals right now on slightly used armor. We've polished it up nice too!
Female shopkeeper
We're working on our inventory, but I have to admit most customers don't make it out here. We're in trouble.
Man in far right tent
Are you the warriors who returned the bag to us?
[Yes] Thank you. Since my wife lost Hou Ju's bag, it's all she's been able to think about.
[No] Huh. I was sure it was you. Oh, well.
Woman in far right tent
I know it seems silly, but it really means a lot to have Hou Ju's bag back. Thank you.

Teppe Ruins

Left woman in entrance cabin
You're actually trying to go to Morgal, you say?
[Yes] Good luck. The Khiren highlands are surrounded by cliffs and ice. Wait—how did you get here?
[No] Good. The northern cliffs lead down to Morgal, but they're so steep that climbing down is basically impossible.
Lower man in entrance cabin
Life in these highlands is a constant battle with nature. You can't win, either.
The best you can hope for is an uneasy truce with nature.
Upper man in entrance cabin
My fishing rod broke, and I can see all these fish waiting to be caught! I wish I had a good, trusty stick...
[If shown the Trusty Staff] Hey, that looks pretty sturdy. Can I try it out?
    [No] Too bad...
[Yes] [System Message] Matthew handed over the trusty staff.
Thanks—this should work great. Fish, here I come!
Inspect oven in entrance cabin
This hearty, nutritious-looking vegetable stew is perfect cold-day fare.
Upper man in entrance cabin, waiting to fish
The big guy's taking a rest on top of the cliff right now. You can't catch him until he moves.
Upper man in entrance cabin, after fishing up a Mercury Djinni
That's...not a fish. It's a nice catch, but I don't think we can eat it. Do you want it?
Sveta, temporarily leaving if you leave Teppe Ruins
If you are heading back to Te Rya, I, will wait here while you take care of your business.
Sveta, when returning to Teppe Ruins
Are you ready to continue into the ruins, then?
Left old man in exit cabin
Even fur-covered beastmen have a hard time with the cold here. You must be half dead.
Right young man in exit cabin
Tell me the truth: were you shocked when you saw my fur and fangs?
[Yes] Yeah, most people are surprised the first time they see a beastman, though we don't look THAT different.
[No] Huh. I guess you've been around a bit. Well, in this area, I won't be the last beastman you see, either.
Inspect bookcase in exit cabin
Fishing on Khiren Glacier: In our cold climate, insects for use as fishing bait are hard to come by.
Cold-weather anglers learn to create lures that look like bugs. Or enough like bugs to fool a hungry fish...
Inspect oven in exit cabin
Hard-boiled eggs, but they don't seem to be chicken eggs. Hmmmm...
