Japanese name | ヒミ Himi |
Himi (ヒミ Himi) is a playable character in Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. Himi is the daughter of Susa and Kushinada, who first appeared in Golden Sun: The Lost Age, and is sister to Takeru. As described on her official site profile, Himi is a priestess of Yamata, having inherited mysterious powers from the bloodline of her mother, also a priestess. As a result of these powers, she is able to hear divine messages. Himi is also a Venus Adept, becoming both the first female Venus Adept and the first mage-style Venus Adept to be playable.
As a playable character
Himi is the last playable character to join the player's party, becoming the party's second Venus Adept. Being the chosen bearer of the Third Eye, she is able to see the unseen, by means of her unique Search Psynergy, which is similar in nature to the Reveal Psynergy. Himi's Search Psynergy is integral to finishing the game, by revealing the locations of the Umbra Gear. Throughout her relatively short time in the party, Himi mainly functions in an expository role; her ability to have visions of the future helps to introduce the remaining plot devices necessary for game completion.
Himi is quite an interesting new character. As the first mage-style Venus Adept in the series, she possesses her own unique base class, the Miko class series. In a reverse situation from Sveta, who trades a mage class for a more physically-oriented class, Himi trades access to the physically oriented Brute class series for the mage-style Curse Mage class series, which has much in common with the previous game's Dark Mage class series. Unusually, she is unable to enter the Samurai class series through any combination of Djinn; attempting to do so will place her into either the Ninja class series or the Curse Mage series, depending on the specific arrangement of Djinn.
In her base class she possesses Weapon Grace, a Psynergy capable of increasing one Adept's Attack by the equivalent of two Impact spells. She is capable of equipping Light Blades too, which means players can equip her with the fabled Tisiphone Edge in order to deal large amounts of damage with its powerful unleash effect. However, her Attack will still be the lowest of the party, even after equipping the Tisiphone Edge. She is also able to equip Staffs and Ankhs, as well as the standard defensive equipment for Mage-styled Adepts.
She is the only playable Venus Adept in the series to possess the Thorn Psynergy series and Growth Psynergy series in her default class, however this means that she is unable to use the powers characteristic of Isaac, Felix, and Matthew such as Gaia Psynergy series and Spire Psynergy series. However, like all Venus Adepts, she has access to the Cure Psynergy series, Revive, and Move. She also possesses a series unique to her, the Roaring Dragon Psynergy series, which are all three-target Venus powers. The final power in the series, Reigning Dragon, is supremely powerful to the point of being feasible to use in boss battles, and is tied with Thunderhead for the most expensive Psynergy in the Golden Sun series, at 39PP.
Himi is the most frail character, with the lowest default HP and attack offset by offensive Psynergy that are often better for group damage than what warrior Adepts like Matthew, Tyrell, or Eoleo have available (this, of course, would mainly apply if Himi is kept in her default Miko class series like the others are kept in theirs). This causes players to tend to use any discovered HP-boosting Power Bread items on her. Even though she can learn and efficiently use spells in the Roaring Dragon series in her default class series, as the game goes on it becomes apparent that she does not have as much instantly identifiable potential as a damage dealer like Matthew, Tyrell, Amiti, or Eoleo. Instead, Himi is more of a general supporter, softening up opponents with wide-ranged Psynergies, as well as useful buffs and minor healing abilities.
Himi joins the party at Level 35 and is initially equipped with a Psynergy Rod, Silver Vest, Silver Armlet and Platinum Circlet; she also comes with a Weasel's Claw and Crystal Powder in her inventory. Himi has four Venus Djinn and one Mars and Jupiter Djinn Set onto her (Buckle, Clover, Geode, Magnet, Pepper, and Swift).
Statistical comparison
As the first mage-style Adept of her element, Himi outshines all other Venus-aligned characters in terms of PP and Agility. Her PP surpasses even Ivan, who originally had the highest PP in the GBA games. With her high PP, she is capable of casting many expensive Psynergy.
However, she also has the lowest Defense and HP. Due to these drawbacks, she has a tendency to be downed quickly if not equipped or watched carefully; she shares this trait with Ivan. Additionally, she has the lowest natural Attack out of any character in the series so far. Despite this, her combination of powerful wide-range offenses, an impressive buff and healing Psynergy still make her a potent supporter.
She is one of two characters in Dark Dawn with a Luck rating of five, the other being Rief, making her Luck stat the highest of any Venus Adept so far. Compared to her fellow Venus Adept Matthew, she has much less HP, their attack power is inverse (he has the highest whereas Himi has the lowest), but much more PP and agility.
Out of the four Venus Adepts, Himi is the complete opposite to Felix. Felix had the highest attack of the eight adepts as well as the Venus Adepts, whereas Himi has the lowest in both categories. Felix had the highest HP and defense out of the Venus Adepts but Himi has the lowest. Felix had the lowest PP, agility, and default luck whereas Himi has the highest out of the four Venus Adepts.
Classes
Himi has the following classes available to her:
- Mono-Elemental: Miko
- Dual-Elemental: Curse Mage, Apprentice, Crusader
- (Partial) Seer (Jupiter), Seer (Mercury)
- Tri-Elemental: Dragoon, Ninja
- (Partial) Medium
Appearance
Himi has black hair and red eyes. Her hair is tied in pig-tails. She also has large golden earrings. She wears traditional Japanese clothing in the colors of red, purple, and white with gold stripes. When the Third Eye imprints itself onto Himi, she gains the "third eye" on her forehead which is also red.
Personality
Given Himi's late appearance, little of her personality can be deciphered. She tends to remain silent unless she is having a premonition. However, she appears to be well-liked by the people of Yamata as a kind and devoted person. She also gives off the impression of being more mature than her young age would imply. Like her father, she is also very brave, despite her young age, she quickly agrees to join Matthew and the others on their quest despite how dangerous it is.
Biography
Himi was born to Susa and Kushinada in the years following Golden Sun event, becoming the younger sister to Takeru, Susa and Kushinada's first child. By this point, Susa and Kushinada, along with the rest of the people of Izumo, had relocated to Yamata, where Susa and Kushinada became king and queen, making Himi a princess. Himi inherited the powers of a Venus Adept from her parents. Additionally, Additionally, she somehow gained the ability to receive premonitions.

Yamata
Prior to the Grave Eclipse, Himi began having visions of Isaac being in danger, which led to Himi's brother Takeru leaving Yamata in hopes of aiding him. While Yamata would not be affected directly by the eclipse, Himi would mysteriously fall unconscious. Despite Kushinada leading prayer vigils constantly, Himi is unable to be roused.
Some point after this, Matthew's traveling party of Adepts enter Yamata during their search for an end to the eclipse. The group speaks with Susa, whom Kraden knew from his previous travels, and learn of Himi's condition. When Kushinada faints out of exhaustion, the group quickly rushes to her side. When Matthew happens to approach Himi, the Third Eye, an ancient relic in his possession, reacts. Acting on its own, the Third Eye enters her, miraculously reviving her and leaving a third eye marking on her forehead, much to the shock of Susa and Kushinada.
When Susa angrily demands an explanation, Himi, via a premonition, is able to explain the Grave Eclipse's nature, as well as the means to stop it. According to Himi, the Grave Eclipse is caused by Eclipse Tower in Belinsk absorbing the light from Sol; when the Eclipse Tower gathers enough light, the light will be released in a cataclysmic burst. However, the eclipse can be stopped immediately by using the Apollo Lens, which harnesses light as a weapon. However, the area surrounding the Apollo Lens can only be approached if one wears the Umbra Gear, which is scattered across the world. Luckily, there is a map, known as the Umbra Map, that records the locations of the gear. Himi then notes that the locations, which are hidden, can be revealed by her Search Psynergy, bestowed by the Third Eye. The Umbra Map is noted to the part of the records of Morgal, but according to Sveta, a beastman from Morgal, the country of Sana took the map as a spoil of war. Following her premonition, Himi proclaims her intention to join the party on their journey. Susa allows her to go, knowing that it is her destiny, and asks that she pay her respects at Uzume's grave.
When Himi and Matthew go to the grave site, located under the palace, Uzume's spirit speaks to them through the Dancing Idol. Uzume prophesies that Himi will lead her companions to great works, and tells her that her Search Psynergy gives her the ability to see the unseen. Uzume then gives Himi and Matthew a hint regarding a large rock located in the tomb. The group leaves Yamata in search of the Umbra Map and the Umbra Gear.
Umbra Hunting
The Umbra Map would eventually be revealed to be in the possession of Ryu Kou, a member of the royal family of the country of Sana. The party is able to recover the map, and begins the search for the Umbra Gear. During the search for the Umbra Gear, Himi's Search allows access to the dungeons where each piece is located. At some point, the group returns to Tonfon, Sana's capital city, and speaks with Emperor Unan. Emperor Unan gives the group a Red Orb, revealing that it is one of three orbs necessary to gain access to the Apollo Lens. Matthew's party has the second orb, the Blue Orb, but does not know where to find the third. Himi then gives another prophecy, suggesting that the group return to Uzume's gravesite. Upon returning to Yamata, the giant rock in the temple is shown to hide an entrance to ruins that hold the Yellow Orb, which could only be accessed by having the other two orbs.
With all the Umbra Gear and Orbs in hand, the group travels to the Apollo Lens. There, Himi assists the party in the final defeat of the Tuaparang commanders, Blados and Chalis, and witnesses the activation of the Apollo Lens as well as the end of the Grave Eclipse. After the eclipse ends, Himi and the group return to Belinsk, where the Eclipse had begun. There, Himi waits at the town gates to see Matthew, Karis, and Tyrell off, as the three return to their home. Eoleo promises to drop her off in Yamata before heading home himself.

Trivia
- Himi is both the first playable female Venus Adept and like Jenna and Mia she is the first female playable "mage"-style Adept of her element.
- Himi is the only Adept in any Golden Sun game (to date) to join the party with Djinn of an element different to their own, let alone joining with Djinn of more than one element
- Himi is the only Venus or Mars Adept that does not have access to either the Samurai class series nor the Brute class series. While she receives the Curse Mage class series as a replacement for the Brute class, she receives no replacement for the Samurai class.
