Rat Soldier enemy line

From Golden Sun Universe
(Redirected from Rat Fighter)
A Rat Soldier as they appear in Dark Dawn.

The Rat Soldier, Rat Fighter, and Rat Warrior are enemies that are randomly battled throughout each game in the Golden Sun series. Like most enemy lines, they are palette swaps of each other that have differing levels of power and defense and are fought in different locations in the games. They resemble humanoid rats half the size of people, but while they are equipped with small spears and shields in the GBA games, in Dark Dawn they now wear hoods and attack with a kunai-shaped dagger.

In Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age

Rat Soldier

A Rat Soldier (ねずみせんし Nezumi Senshi, lit. Rat Soldier) is a brown variant with a blue shield, and it is level 6 in Golden Sun and level 8 in The Lost Age. In Golden Sun, they are first fought at the overworld region of Angara around Bilibin and Kolima, and subsequently throughout Kolima Forest and Tret Tree. In The Lost Age, they are fought on Dehkan Plateau and Madra Catacombs.

In Golden Sun, Rat Soldiers are easily the statistically highest enemies you contend with as soon as you step out of Goma Cave into the overworld region nearby the town of Bilibin, but quickly get outclassed by enemies such as the Troll and Creeper. In The Lost Age, it is not quite as noteworthy as the Mini-Goblin from the start.

A Rat Soldier is especially likely to be affected by Sleep-inducing effects. Its statistics are as follows:

Name HP PP Attack Defense Agility Luck
Rat Soldier 69 0 56 13 19 2
Elemental Resistances and Levels Exp Coins Item Dropped Drop Rate

Rat Fighter

Rat Fighter.png

A Rat Fighter (ラットファイター) is a dark purple level 13 variant with a green shield. In Golden Sun, they are fought throughout Altin Peak and Lamakan Desert.

In Altin Peak, while the Ape has the much higher durability, the Rat Fighter's statistics are strong everywhere else, having the second highest HP and the highest Attack and Defense ratings of the monsters fought in that area, with its Agility practically as high as the Dirge.

A Rat Fighter is especially likely to be affected by Sleep-inducing effects. Its statistics are as follows:

Name HP PP Attack Defense Agility Luck
Rat Fighter 143 0 146 39 58 3
Elemental Resistances and Levels Exp Coins Item Dropped Drop Rate

A Rat Fighter uses the following battle commands with low intelligence:

Command Chance

Description
Attack 5/8
(62.5%)
-- Standard physical attack.
Use Item 3/8
(37.5%)
-- Uses one of the stocked items in the user's personal inventory. If there are no items remaining in stock, this being called again will instead cause the user to default to Defend (on account of slightly bugged behavior).

On account of being an enemy with low intelligence that carries stocked items, its chance to use one of its stocked items is effectively a separate command that does not overlap with its chances to carry out other commands; while it is currently unable to use its currently "individually available" item applicably at the moment, it will default to using its remaining commands with each action. Its full inventory of items is as follows:

Smoke Bomb.gif 1 Smoke Bomb: An item that attempts to inflict Delusion to a targeted Adept.

In an anomalous behavior, one of the three ability slots comprising the Rat Fighter's chance to use an item, Flee, will not be effectively overridden with the Defend command unlike the contents of the other two slots (which, incidentally, are the Slice ability seen on the Thief enemy line). Thus, it has a 12.5% chance to flee once it has used up its Smoke Bomb.

Rat Warrior

Rat Warrior.png

A Rat Warrior (スピードラット Speed Rat) is a violet red level 20 variant with a turquoise shield. They are ideally first fought throughout Gondowan Cave, then in the underground of the optional Lunpa Fortress, before being fought in the overworld region of Gondowan that extends between Gondowan Passage and Lalivero.

In Gondowan Cave, the Dirty Ape outperforms it in every area, and since it may use its turn defending or attempting to flee, it is not so damaging as a random monster. The same goes for its appearance alongside the Dirty Ape in the Gondowan overworld. In Lunpa Fortress, it is roughly statistically equal to the Vile Dirge and quite a lot faster than the Kobold.

A Rat Warrior is especially likely to be affected by Sleep-inducing effects. Its statistics are as follows:

Name HP PP Attack Defense Agility Luck
Rat Warrior 208 0 226 49 121 3
