Grub enemy line

From Golden Sun Universe
Jump to: navigation, search

The Grub, Worm, and Acid Maggot are enemies that are randomly battled in Golden Sun. These monsters, resembling worms holding small spears, are palette swaps of each other that have differing levels of power and defense and are fought in different locations in the game.

In Golden Sun[edit]

Grub[edit]

A Grub (ウォーム Worm) is a light green level 14 variant with a yellow underbelly. In Golden Sun, it is battled only throughout Lamakan Desert.

The Grub is the easiest monster among the monsters it is fought alongside, enough to suggest that they are mainly meant as targets strictly for making the trip to Lamakan Desert a little less hard. The fact they attempt to flee makes battles involving them easy as well.

A Grub's statistics are as follows:

Name HP PP Attack Defense Agility Luck
Grub 102 0 154 32 52 1
Elemental Resistances Turns Exp Coins Item Dropped Drop Rate
Star venus.gif 48   Star mercury.gif 48   Star jupiter.gif 48   Star mars.gif 25 1 62 88 Antidote.gif Antidote 1/16

A Grub uses these battle commands:

Command Chance
to use
Elem. Stats
used with *
Description
Attack 6/8
(75%)
-- Standard physical attack.
Flee 2/8
(25%)
-- Standard Flee command that has a chance to remove the user from the battle without giving the party EXP and Coin rewards.

Worm[edit]

A Worm (スピアウォーム Spear Worm) is a green level 18 variant with a light blue underbelly. In Golden Sun, it is battled only throughout Altmiller Cave.

The Worm is about the same as the Grub in respect to how its battling capability compares to the other monsters it is fought alongside with. It's a little more notable in that its ability to summon other monsters occurs rather often, literally half the time it is able to act, so it might be interesting to hold off on attacking for several turns and see how the enemy side doubles in size. Then use area-of-effect Psynergy to take out many at a time and get a pretty hefty EXP and coin reward.

A Worm's statistics are as follows:

Name HP PP Attack Defense Agility Luck
Worm 132 0 196 51 79 2
Elemental Resistances Turns Exp Coins Item Dropped Drop Rate
Star venus.gif 48   Star mercury.gif 48   Star jupiter.gif 48   Star mars.gif 25 1 60 94 Herb.gif Herb 1/32

A Worm uses these battle commands:

Command Chance
to use
Elem. Stats
used with *
Description
Attack 4/8
(50%)
-- Standard physical attack.
Search for Help 4/8
(50%)
-- Enemy ability that prompts the battle text to read "Worm looks for allies!". There is a chance that a new monster will join the enemy side, and it can either be another Worm or a Mad Mole, since the only enemy formation the Worm can appear in is one that features a Mad Mole.

Acid Maggot[edit]

Acid Maggot.png

An Acid Maggot (アシッドウォーム Acid Worm) is a violet level 22 variant with a light green underbelly. In Golden Sun, it is battled only throughout Suhalla Desert.

Once again, this monster is probably the least threatening of the random opponents in the area it can be fought in, complete with a small chance to attempt to flee. To its credit, it's certainly more capable of damage than its earlier counterparts.

An Acid Maggot's statistics are as follows:

Name HP PP Attack Defense Agility Luck
Acid Maggot 160 0 255 60 78 2
Elemental Resistances Turns Exp Coins Item Dropped Drop Rate
Star venus.gif 48   Star mercury.gif 48   Star jupiter.gif 48   Star mars.gif 25 1 86 102 Sleep Bomb.gif Sleep Bomb 1/32

An Acid Maggot uses these battle commands:

Command Chance
to use
Elem. Stats
used with *
Description
Attack 5/8
(62.5%)
-- Standard physical attack.
Acid Bite 2/8
(25%)
Star mars.gif 90 Power
Star mars.gif Level 0
Enemy ability that causes a glowing red image of a pair of jaws to appear and slowly chomp on a targeted Adept three times in a row as a red poison cloud is emitted. Deals a Mars-aligned standard physical attack with 36 damage points added to the end result, and there is a chance the target's Defense rating will be temporarily lowered by 12.5%.
Flee 1/8
(12.5%)
-- Standard Flee command that has a chance to remove the user from the battle without giving the party EXP and Coin rewards.
