Ruffian (enemy)
A Ruffian (あらくれ Arakure, lit. Ruffian) is a level 3 enemy encountered during scripted battles in the prologue sequence of Golden Sun: The Lost Age. Five of these ruffians are among the workmen at Lalivero who antagonize Alex's party at the exit to Venus Lighthouse while the lighthouse is being lit above by Saturos, and they cooperate with soldiers from the Tolbi military because they both want the Laliveran girl Sheba back, who Saturos had taken captive. In order to make it to nearby Idejima where Saturos had parked an escape ship, Jenna and Kraden have to fight their way through the ruffians on their own.
The Ruffian is more of a of a "tutorial" enemy, an extremely easy and weak enemy in general roughly equivalent to the Punch Ant (one of which is also fought in a scripted battle in the prologue). A total of five are fought, the first two by themselves and the last three all together at once. The only possible threat this enemy could have to a lone Jenna is if, in Hard Mode, she neglects to use any Herbs and tries to win the fight against the three of them without using the powerful Fume Psynergy, which takes out each one instantly. The Flare Psynergy is not recommended against the three when fighting them in Hard Mode because their increased HP will take more castings of Flare to fell, and each one will be able to hit her with more damaging attacks all the while. If Jenna is downed during this segment, a rarely seen cutscene with Alex will trigger, after which you can repeat the segment healed.
A Ruffian is especially likely to be affected by Delusion-inflicting and Sleep-inducing effects. Its statistics are as follows:
Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
Ruffian | 29 | 0 | 24 | 6 | 11 | 3 |
Elemental Resistances and Levels | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate | ||
100 (Lv 1) 100 (Lv 1) 100 (Lv 1) 100 (Lv 1) | 5 | 5 | Herb | 1/1 |
A Ruffian uses these battle commands with low intelligence:
