Cuttle enemy line
A Cuttle, Calamar, Man o' War, and Aqua Jelly are enemies that are battled throughout each game in the Golden Sun series. These monsters, resembling jellyfish with a pair of arm-like appendages in addition to their tentacles, are palette swaps of each other that have differing levels of power and defense and are fought in different locations in the games.
In Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Cuttle
A Cuttle (ジェルフィッシュ Jellyfish) is a level 10 turquoise variant with dark purple tentacles. In Golden Sun, the Cuttle is battled only throughout the Mercury Lighthouse.
Cuttles are definitely among the "smaller targets" in Mercury Lighthouse, being significantly stronger only over the Ooze. If you get Poisoned by one, though, note that your recently-joined Party member Mia would have the Cure Poison Psynergy (assuming you haven't changed her Class already), which for many players essentially removes the necessity for Antidotes.
A Cuttle is especially likely to be affected by Stun-inducing ffects. Its statistics are as follows:
Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
Cuttle | 80 | 0 | 96 | 22 | 36 | 1 |
Elemental Resistances and Levels | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate
127 (Lv 6) 48 (Lv 2) 48 (Lv 2) 7 (Lv 0) | 27 | 49 | Sleep Bomb | 1/32 |

Calamar
A Calamar (ジェルアンブレラ Jelly Umbrella) is a violet variant with green and orange-tipped tentacles that is level 13 in Golden Sun and level 21 in The Lost Age. In Golden Sun, the Calamar is fought throughout Altin Peak, and in The Lost Age, it is one of the stock monsters battled all throughout the Great Eastern Sea while sailing.
Calamars are one of the less durable monsters throughout Altin Peak, and throughout the Great Eastern Sea it is both the slowest and least harmful of the monsters battled by ship.
A Calamar is especially likely to be affected by Stun-inducing ffects. Its statistics are as follows:
Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
Calamar | 104 | 0 | 130 | 34 | 46 | 1 |
Elemental Resistances and Levels | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate

Man o' War
A Man o' War (ジェルフローと Jelly Float) is a yellow variant with violet tentacles that is level 17 in Golden Sun and level 24 in The Lost Age. In Golden Sun, only 5 Man o' Wars are fought, which are as scripted encounters during the Tolbi-bound Ship; first a battle against three at once, then later a battle against two and a Virago. In The Lost Age, they are fought as a more traditional random monster throughout Aqua Rock.
In Golden Sun, since so few are fought, they are easily dispatched with area-of-effect offensive Psynergy, and their Deadly Poison-capable attacks aren't seen often. In The Lost Age, they are definitely among the lesser enemies, with sharply less HP than all the other monsters (except the Faery, which nonetheless is much more dangerous due to having literally twice as much Agility). Since battles in general typically don't last more than a few turns each, even if you do get Deadly Poisoned, the cheap and easy Cure Poison Psynergy should always be on hand to cure the poison after battle.
A Man o' War is especially likely to be affected by Stun-inducing ffects. Its statistics are as follows:
Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
Man o' War | 137 | 0 | 193 | 42 | 70 | 1 |
Elemental Resistances and Levels | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate
127 (Lv 6) 48 (Lv 2) 48 (Lv 2) 7 (Lv 0) | 55 | 87 | Antidote | 1/32 |

125 Power | Standard physical attack, but on this enemy it is aligned with the Mercury element. |
Poison Ink | 2/8 (25%) |
95 Power Level 2 |
Enemy ability where the monster lobs a red slimy mound at a targeted Adept that evaporates into a red mist. Deals a Venus-aligned standard physical attack with a chance to inflict Deadly Poison. |
Aqua Jelly
An Aqua Jelly (アクアジェリー Aqua Jelly) is a level 22 turquoise variant with dark purple tentacles (visually identical to the Cuttle). In The Lost Age, it is fought in many individual scripted battles inside the Lemurian Ship, always one at a time and always by "talking" to each one, and whenever one is felled the Aqua Jelly melts into a Frostable puddle.
Aqua Jellies are essentially meant to be tiny "boss battles". Since you always fight one once at a time with a 4-member party, it should be no problem to defeat each one by just having everyone physically attack. In one particular late room where there's six of them clustered together around some crates, be warned; interacting with the center one will trigger a scripted scene where the six jellies merge together into one Aqua Hydra, which is a powerful boss that must be defeated.
An Aqua Jelly is especially likely to be affected by Stun-inducing effects. Its statistics are as follows:
Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
Aqua Jelly | 225 | 5 | 161 | 33 | 78 | 7 |
Elemental Resistances and Levels | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate
