Altin
Altin (アルチン村 Altin Village) is a village featured in Golden Sun. Located northwest of Xian in southeastern Angara, it is built into a mountain range and connects to an extensive network of mines that serve as a dungeon, Altin Peak. Isaac's party is forced to detour north from Alpine Crossing to this village because of a landslide set off there by Saturos to hinder their pursuit west across southern Angara.
When Altin is visted in-game, it has been severely flooded by Living Statues from the connected mines that have come to life in response to the Psynergy Stones scattered across Weyard by the eruption of Mt. Aleph. Whenever the party destroys one of these statues in battle, the water level recedes, allowing more areas of the mines in Altin Peak to be explored and more buildings in the village itself to be entered. Destroying the Hydros Statue at the end and gaining the Lift Psynergy allows the party to take an alternate exit through the mines back into the overworld on the other side of Alpine Crossing, where they can receive the Reveal Psynergy at Lama Temple and use it to progress west through Lamakan Desert.
Altin has entirely disappeared by the events of Golden Sun: Dark Dawn 30 years later.

Once the party has "trapped" itself in Angara's southeastern swath by taking the south exit from Mogall Forest, their first mandatory step is to head northwest from Xian into Alpine Crossing and exit north of it to reach Altin nearby. At the moment, the flooding the town is experiencing leaves only the top level of the village traversable, and you can only access the Inn service at the upper-left building and the Sanctum service down the ladder close to the entrance.
If you cast Move to shift the statue just above the double doors of the Sanctum one tile right, you will uncover a small cave with a chest that contains a Psy Crystal. This area technically counts as a screen in Altin Peak, a series of segregated dungeon-like areas connected to Altin's village area at different levels, and it therefore features the same bestiary of random monster encounters.
Once you climb down the ladder left of the Inn and approach the southwest corner of the village's explorable upper level, a cutscene will show the Living Statue monster stopping spewing water into the lake and retreating into the nearby cave. Inside this second area of Altin Peak, continue following the monster until you can engage it in battle and fell it for its Frost Jewel Utility Psynergy item. This will cause the water level of both the village and the mines to recede by one story's worth, letting you use the item shop at the east end of the village; this is the first item shop where Nuts can be purchased as common items.
The now-open entrance with the mine cart tracks leads into the "upper half" of what qualifies as the "main dungeon" of Altin Peak. During your playthrough of this part of the dungeon, you will end up fighting and felling two more Living Statues, each of which further lowers the water level by another story. As soon as you fell the first Living Statue at the end of the east fork, the village's armor shop becomes accessible, and it introduces the Chain Mail, Gauntlets, and Iron Helm as common armor pieces that can be used to shore up Defense stats as necessary.
Once you fell the remaining Living Statue in the upper main part of the dungeon, the water will have fully disappeared from both the dungeon and the village, opening up both the "lower half" of the main dungeon and the weapon shop in the village itself. This shop introduces the particularly high-Attack Claymore, and its Artifacts menu adds the Psynergy Rod.
Once you defeat the Hydros Statue boss at the end of the lower half of the main dungeon, you will gain the Lifting Gem, which bestows the Lift Psynergy needed to pass by the boulder in the first screen of the lower half that will lead back outside into the overworld on the other side of Alpine Crossing. For the most part, there is no need to return back to Altin's main village area. However, if you want one of the game's four Cookies, you will have to reenter the upper main dungeon area from Altin and go back through the east fork to find and get past the Liftable boulder blocking the way to its chest.
Vendors
The village's Inn service is provided in the large building at its northwest corner at a rate of 12 coins per party member. This is the only standing building that does not start off submerged when the party first enters Altin.

History
Aside from being afflicted by the Living Statues, and thus being saved by Isaac's party, Altin has almost no bearing on the overall plot of the Golden Sun series, and basically only serves as a host city to the Altin Peak dungeon. The most significant plot-related event to occur in Altin is the discovery of the tiled room at the bottom of the mine, as it is (outside of Sol Sanctum and the Elemental Lighthouses) the first hint toward Weyard's ancient past. As the series progresses, several other such ruins will be encountered, usually as Optional Dungeons in The Lost Age (such as Madra Catacombs).
Trivia
- Altin may be named after the Altun-Shan mountain range, north of Tibet, which borders the Taklamankan Desert which is supported by Altin's proximity to the Lamakan Desert.
- Also, "Altin" is the Turkish word for "Gold", likely a reference to Altin's mines.
