Ant Lion enemy line
The Ant Lion, Roach, and Doodle Bug are enemies randomly battled in Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age. These monsters, resembling huge cockroach-like bugs, are palette swaps of each other that have differing levels of power and defense and are fought in different locations in the games.
In Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Ant Lion
An Ant Lion (アリジゴク Antlion) is a giant-sized level 16 variant with a tan carapace and red legs and pincers. In Golden Sun, it is battled throughout Lamakan Desert, but not as a traditional randomly battled monster; at several points throughout the desert, casting the Reveal Psynergy and approaching a now-visible Ant Lion's nest will trigger a scripted battle with a single Ant Lion. After defeating it, casting Reveal again at the same spot will ensue the same battle again, and this process is infinitely repeatable.
Being the "scripted single big monster" of Lamakan Desert that is repeatable but not a Boss encounter like the Manticore at the end of the desert, the Ant Lion is of course much stronger and more durable than any single normal monster randomly battled throughout the desert, but since it always appears one at a time by itself, it is manageable with a party of 4 Adepts. At that point in the game, however, it is an excellent enemy to level-grind with, felling it with a Mercury Djinni each time, because of large EXP and Coin rewards, and the extremely common chance to win a powerful Vial.
An Ant Lion is especially likely to be affected by Defense-lowering effects. Its statistics are as follows:
Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
Ant Lion | 400 | 32 | 160 | 45 | 58 | 19 |
Elemental Resistances and Levels | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate | ||
175 (Lv 4) 100 (Lv 2) 100 (Lv 2) 25 (Lv 0) | 168 | 320 | Vial | 1/8 |
An Ant Lion uses the following battle commands with moderate intelligence:

Roach
A Roach (ラルヴァ Larva) is a normal-sized level 22 variant with a light blue carapace and dark purple legs and pincers. In Golden Sun, it is randomly battled throughout Suhalla Desert.
Roaches are, in general, not quite as strong or durable as the other random monsters in where it is fought, such as the Brutal Troll.
A Roach is especially likely to be affected by Defense-lowering effects. Its statistics are as follows:
Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
Roach | 211 | 27 | 252 | 72 | 92 | 4 |

Doodle Bug
A Doodle Bug (ドードルバグ Doodle Bug) is a normal-sized level 35 variant with a violet carapace and red legs and pincers. In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, it is randomly battled throughout Mars Lighthouse, the game's final dungeon. Although the Doodle Bug does not appear in Golden Sun, it exists in the code of the game with its name and abilities, but none of its statistics coded beyond weak placeholder stats.
Considering how it actually has less HP than the Roach, this "endgame enemy" should be no problem to swat, and is the least durable enemy in Mars Lighthouse.
A Doodle Bug is especially likely to be affected by Defense-lowering effects. Its statistics are as follows:
Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
Doodle Bug | 202 | 22 | 329 | 109 | 173 | 12 |

95 Power | Psynergy costing 19 PP that causes a mass of long spiked vines to sprout out of the ground and damage multiple party members. Deals a Venus-aligned attack with 110 base damage that is spread out across 5 enemies with high damage distribution. |
