Conch Shell enemy line

From Golden Sun Universe
(Redirected from Spiral Shell)

The Conch Shell and Spiral Shell are enemies that are randomly battled in Golden Sun: The Lost Age. These monsters, resembling snails whose heads are poking straight out from their helix-shaped shells, are palette swaps of each other that have differing levels of power and defense and are fought in different locations in the game.

In Golden Sun: The Lost Age

Conch Shell

A Conch Shell (カンクシェル) is an orange level 20 variant. In The Lost Age, the Conch Shell is battled in the Lemurian Ship, but not in the "main" rooms that you make your way through by solving puzzles; they are only fought in the small, thin hallways connecting each big room, and are the only monsters fought in those screens. Therefore, many players complete the Lemurian Ship without ever fighting this monster, because it is easy to pass through the hallways quickly.

If you do find these monsters, you'll find they are very easy for several reasons; they only have around 100 HP, and their offenses never go beyond their normal physical strikes, with Mucous Gel being practically worthless for them. You are able to encounter up to four of these at a time, but with offensive Psynergy spells that have at least a range of 5, they are easily dispatched in groups.

A Conch Shell is especially likely to be affected by Delusion-inflicting effects. Its statistics are as follows:

Name HP PP Attack Defense Agility Luck
Conch Shell 102 0 158 43 72 8
Elemental Resistances and Levels Exp Coins Item Dropped Drop Rate
Star jupiter.gif 100 (Lv 0)   Star venus.gif 72 (Lv 1)   Star mercury.gif 72 (Lv 0)   Star mars.gif 48 (Lv 0) 80 81 Elixir.gif Elixir 1/16

A Conch Shell uses the following battle commands with low intelligence:

Description
Attack 5/8
(62.5%)
-- Standard physical attack.
Mucous Gel 3/8
(37.5%)
Star mercury.gif Level 0 Enemy ability that generates a blue mist around a targeted Adept. May inflict Delusion.

Spiral Shell

A Spiral Shell (スパイラルシェル) is a blue level 30 variant. In The Lost Age, the Spiral Shell is one of the monsters battled throughout the Great Western Sea while sailing.

The Spiral Shell is certainly the least durable of the monsters in the Western Sea, having less than half the HP of Turtle Dragons. However, up to five Spiral Shells are battled simultaneously, and it is true that if their monster skill connects, someone will be inflicted with strong poison. But like before, they are easily dealt with with Psynergy spells that target 5 or more combatants at a time.

A Spiral Shell is especially likely to be affected by Delusion-inflicting effects. Its statistics are as follows:

Name HP PP Attack Defense Agility Luck
Spiral Shell 155 0 268 92 117 9
Elemental Resistances and Levels Exp Coins Item Dropped Drop Rate

A Spiral Shell uses the following battle commands with low intelligence:

Poison Gel 2/8
(25%)

Poison Shell

The Poison Shell (ポイズンシェル) exists as a named but unused variant in the code in The Lost Age, where none of its statistics and abilities are coded beyond weak placeholder abilities. Had it been used, it would have appeared as a turquoise variant.
