The Squire class series is the default class series available to the Venus Adepts Isaac, Felix, and Matthew. Isaac, Felix, and Matthew become this class series when they either have only Venus Djinn set to them or no Djinn whatsoever.

The class series, when at its highest stage of Slayer and compared to the other series at their highest respective stages, features high HP, good Attack, and average Agility (shared only with Ronin), but lower Defense and very low PP (down there with Hero, Chaos Lord, and Acrobat and only above Beast Lord). This series' luck rating is at the standard (which only the Guard class series and the two variations on Seer class series are also at). Noteworthy Psynergy from an endgame perspective includes Revive, Odyssey, and Potent Cure, and the heaviest area-of-effect Psynergy it has is Grand Gaia. Average stats from an endgame perspective are 142% (150% if you don't factor in Luck).

In all games, an Adept in this class series is especially likely to be affected by HP-siphoning effects.

Analysis

The Squire class, available to Felix, Isaac, and Matthew, is a fairly straightforward class. The class has the highest Attack multiplier of the mono-elemental classes. When combined with Ragnarok/Odyssey, the Squire class is one of the best damage dealers out of the mono-elemental classes. As far as Power-based Psynergy is concerned, the Quake series is an effective early game series, while the Gaia series packs excellent late game power. However, when compared with the Brute class series and the Samurai class series, the offensive power of the Squire is merely above average.

Besides its offensive capabilities, the Squire is a decent healer in a pinch. Access to the Cure Psynergy series, combines with the Squire's decent agility means that the Squire can patch up a critically injured Adept while slower healers (like the Water Seers) wait their turn. Before Dark Dawn, the Squire class was the only mono-elemental class to have the useful Revive Psynergy. In Dark Dawn, the Squire class shares this distinction with the Miko class series. However, Revive in the Miko Class series can be used anytime. Revive for the Squire Class series can only be used when the class has reached Gallant or higher.

The Squire class's main drawback is its low PP pool. High PP Psynergies like Odyssey and Grand Gaia will quickly strain the PP pool.

Origin

All classes in this series are knightly ranks or roles of traditional fairy-tale hero-knights (Slayer or Dragon Slayer). The Japanese name, Swordsman, shows a more focused element on swordfighting, with Gallant being known as Swordmaster. Of interest, the Japanese word for Swordsman, Kenshi, is very similar to the Japanese word for Soldier, Senshi, which is the Japanese name of the first class in the Guard class series, showing a relationship between these two classes. Similarly, we see the Apprentice being a Magic Swordsman (Mahou Kenshi) and the Page being a Magic Soldier (Mahou Senshi), while the Crusader is the Spirit Swordsman (Sei Kenshi) and the Swordsman is the Spirit Soldier (Sei Senshi). The class series for Venus and Mars adepts, save understandably Himi's Curse Mage series, thus seem deeply related to the Squire and Guard series, when looking from an original Japanese language version perspective.

Trivia

  • The Squire class series is the only mono-elemental class series that learns the same Psynergy in both The Lost Age and Dark Dawn.
  • As of Dark Dawn, the only party members with access to this class series are also the only ones capable of wielding the Sol Blade.
  • All the members of this class seem to have the same inherent utility Psynergy: Move and Retreat. As of Dark Dawn, Growth is also included.
  • The three members of this class are all related.
