A Kimono (かすりのきもの, Kasuri no Kimono?, lit. Ikat Kimono) is a Clothing-class piece of armor found in Golden Sun and Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. Visually, the Kimono resembles a blue tunic in Golden Sun; in Dark Dawn, the Kimono is more elaborate, and resembles the real-life garment in a blue color, with a red sash.
In Golden Sun
The Kimono is one of the many pieces of equipment that can be won at Tolbi's spring. The equipment won may be used to outfit your party, replacing any outdated equipment. Compared to the Spirit Armor and the Cocktail Dress, the Kimono may be the least desirable bodywear, due to the Kimono having the lowest Defensive rating of the three. If acquired, the Kimono would still be a good fit on Garet, normally a slow Adept when he is under the influence of the default Guard class series, because of the agility boost provided.
Mia is another potential wearer, both for both the agility and the minor Fire resistance. On the other hand, the Cocktail Dress and its PP-boosting effect might be better on her regardless, while the higher Defense and more diverse Elemental Resistances of the Spirit Armor are better for the Warrior-Adepts. Another armor that may be construed as superior to the Kimono is the Water Jacket, found earlier on in a chest in Kalay, which has better defense and high resistances to Mars and Mercury as well.
In Golden Sun: Dark Dawn
In Dark Dawn, the Kimono is the strongest bodywear, Defensively speaking, at the time it is first found. The agility boost makes it a good fit for either Tyrell or Rief, while Rief would benefit more from the additional boost to Mars Resistance. In any case, the early availability of the Kimono means that there is potential for multiple Adepts to equip it over the course of the game. In any case, the Kimono will most likely be replaced by stronger bodywear by the time the player exits the Morgal region.
Etymology
The Kimono's original name in Japanese refers to kasuri, fabric that has been woven with fibers dyed to create patterns and images in the fabric. The technique was first practiced in the 12th or 13th century.
