Blitz being unleashed in The Lost Age
|Battle Effect||An elemental physical attack equal to a normal attack with 30 added damage, may inflict Stun|
|The Lost Age||Yampi Desert (battled)|
- This Djinni appears as an enemy that can be battled.
Blitz is the second Jupiter Djinni in Golden Sun: The Lost Age. The separate Djinn list viewable with the Select button from the status screen lists Blitz and all other Jupiter Djinn introduced in The Lost Age before the seven Jupiter Djinn from the original Golden Sun, most likely because all the Djinn from the original game can be gotten all at once late in The Lost Age. However, the original Djinn are ordered before all of the Djinn introduced in The Lost Age in the Djinn inventory screen while they are allocated to characters. By this order, Blitz is the ninth Jupiter Djinni in the GBA series, rather than the second.
- "Numb a foe with a lightning strike."
When Blitz is unleashed in battle, the user deals a Jupiter-based attack equal in power to the user's normal physical attack with an additional 30 damage points added to the result. Then there is a chance the target will be afflicted with the Stun status condition.
Visually, Blitz's unleash animation resembles the user leaping forward to perform a normal physical strike, but before the impact the user briefly stops in the air while glowing purple energy orbs gather above the user and form a transparent purple image of a Jupiter Djinni. The Jupiter Djinni disappears into the user's strike at the target, and at the same time four vertical purple lightning bolts circle around the target's position for half a second.
|Damage calculation example|
Elemental physical attacks such as Blitz use the damage dealt by the attacker's standard physical attack as the base damage to be later modified. The total amount of damage dealt by a normal physical attack is half the difference between the attacker's Attack statistic and the target's Defense statistic, as this equation shows:
Blitz's attack then takes this base damage value and uses it in the following equation:
To word this in prose, Blitz takes the base damage of the user's normal physical attack, adds 30 to it, and then this result is modified by how much higher or lower the user's Jupiter Power is than the target's Jupiter Resistance. The difference between the user's Jupiter Power and the target's Jupiter Resistance is divided by 400, then 1 is added to this, resulting in what can be called the "elemental damage multiplier". This number is what Blitz's damage is multiplied by.
For example, if an Adept with an Attack rating of 100 and a Jupiter Power of 120 unleashes Blitz on a monster with a defense of 20 and a Jupiter Resistance of 70:
Therefore, if Blitz were to be unleashed under these circumstances it would deal approximately 78 points of damage.
Golden Sun: The Lost Age: Blitz is located in Yampi Desert, on an elevated portion of desert that must be hopped onto using Poundable wooden pillars - you must pound the pillars that allow you to climb up to the elevated level of the screen without pounding any of the pillars you need to use to hop to where Blitz is. From where you enter the screen from the lower left, pound the immediately visible left pillar visible, go to the right in the area beyond that, pound the rightmost pillar there, and pound the right of the two topmost pillars that are up against the north wall. Climb up the resultant ladder, hop left, go down, hop right, go down, hop down once and left twice across the two concurrent wood pillars, go down and right, and hop right to reach Blitz's area, where it must be battled to be obtained. Considering the hefty amount of work needed to get onto Blitz's area, the importance of saving before the battle cannot be stressed enough. See here for enemy statistics.
General: Blitz is a "basic" offensive Jupiter Djinni, for it has a modest set damage bonus. As a Djinni to use early in the game, its 30 set damage bonus is pretty useful for any Adept that Unleashes it, and the Stun status condition that Blitz may inflict on the enemy is good as well. 30 extra damage becomes unimpressive as the game goes on, so this Djinni will fall out of favor.
Golden Sun: The Lost Age: When Blitz is found, being the second Jupiter Djinni will cause whichever Adept is set with the other Jupiter Djinni Breath to become the next stage in their Class series. By the time the party makes it to Yampi Desert and collects Blitz, it may already be a little insufficient as an offensive measure to use because of the rapid growth of the party's offensive options. Felix with the Themis' Axe and Jenna with the Pirate's Sword can unleash effects that do roughly as much damage as, say, Sheba unleashing Blitz. She will likely have Plasma at this point, which is simply better as an offense in both damage terms and how it hits multiple enemies. In the boss battle with the King Scorpion coming up shortly, Blitz is best off increasing its Adept's class and statistics. Various other attacking Jupiter Djinn outclass it later, the first of which is Waft, with 40 damage and its own very useful status condition, Sleep. Much later, the previous game's Squall will also outclass it, because it is a stunning Jupiter Djinni with a x1.4 damage multiplier.
Blitz is the German word for lightning. Although the Jupiter element focuses mainly on wind, it is also associated with lightning.
