A Wooden Cap (ウッドキャップ, Wood Cap?) is a Hat-class headwear available throughout the Golden Sun series.

Basic Description by Game[edit | edit source]

A Wooden Cap increases the wearer's base Defense by 10 points. As a common item, it can be bought for 400 coins and sold for 300 coins.

In Golden Sun, it is sold by armor vendors in Bilibin, Kolima, Xian, and Altin. In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, they are sold at in Garoh and Naribwe in Golden Sun: The Lost Age. In Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, Wooden Caps are sold in Kaocho. In all its appearances, Wooden Caps can be equipped by all party members.

Analysis[edit | edit source]

In Golden Sun, Wooden Caps are not very useful when comparing its hefty price tag and comparatively small Defensive increase to the limited money reserves available. Thus, it is more worthwhile to retain the Open Helms and Circlet Isaac, Garet and Ivan will each have. Once Mia joins the party, she will have a Wooden Cap as her beginning headwear. This array of headgear will last until the player reaches Kolima Village and Xian, where the player can find Bronze Helms and Silver Circlets respectively.

In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, a Wooden Cap might never be bought because it can only be first bought when you go to Garoh after completing the Air's Rock dungeon and getting the Reveal Psynergy to engage in the cutscenes that will update the town and cause its vendors to be open for normal business. Meaning, you will have been able to buy a stronger Bronze Helm for Felix much earlier at Mikasalla, find the Hat artifact Nurse's Cap in a chest even earlier in the town Madra, and find the Circlet artifact Clarity Circlet in a chest in Air's Rock.

In Dark Dawn, the purchase of Wooden Caps is largely up to player preference. The player will already have access to Open Helms and Circlets for their party members. In addition, the next town, Ayuthay, sells stronger Bronze Helms and Silver Circlets. Thus, it is perfectly reasonable for the player to hold off on buying Wooden Caps in favor of these stronger pieces of headwear.
