Wild Wolf Psynergy set
The Wild Wolf Psynergy set is a set of non-elemental and Venus Psynergies available to the Tamer class series. In basic function, it is somewhat similar to the Call Psynergy series, as both series of Psynergies call in enemies to do the fighting for the caster. The series is notable for having having four variations, while most upgrading series only have two. The series is also unique for possessing two versions that are not aligned with an element: Wild Wolf and Orc.
Basic description
Wild Wolf, Orc, Dinox, and Troll are offensive, single-target Psynergies that are Attack-dependent, meaning characters with higher Attack ratings will deal more damage with these attacks. Dinox and Troll also take into account the caster's Venus Power and the target's Defense and Venus Resistance when calculating the damage totals.

Visually, each stage of the series summons a specific monster, corresponding with the name of the particular Psynergy, to attack the enemy.
Damage calculation example for Wild Wolf and Orc |
Elemental physical attacks such as Wild Wolf, Orc, Dinox, and Troll use the damage dealt by the attacker's standard physical attack as the base damage to be later modified. The total amount of damage dealt by a normal physical attack is half the difference between the attacker's Attack statistic and the target's Defense statistic, as this equation shows: However, the total damage for Wild Wolf and Orc is calculated in a slightly different way from Dinox and Troll. Wild Wolf and Orc, being Psynergies that are not aligned with any element, use this base damage value in a unique, yet simplistic equation.
To word this in prose, Wild Wolf and Orc simply take the base damage done by the user's normal physical attack, and add a set amount of bonus damage to that, the amount depending on which Psynergy is being used. This, if an Adept with a base Attack of 300 used Orc on a monster with a defense of 100:
Because Wild Wolf and Orc are non-elemental Psynergies, they are not modified any further. Thus, under the above circumstances, Orc would deal approximately 135 points of damage, regardless of Elemental Power and Resistance. |
Damage calculation example for Dinox and Troll |
Dinox and Troll, unlike Wild Wolf and Orc, are aligned with the Venus element. Thus, when damage is calculated, an expanded damage equation is used to take into account the user's Venus Power and the target's Venus Resistance, as seen in the following equation:
To word this in prose, Dinox and Troll take the base damage of the user's normal physical attack, add a set amount of bonus damage to that, and then this result is modified by how much higher or lower the user's Venus Power is than the target's Venus Resistance. The difference between the user's Venus Power and the target's Venus Resistance is divided by 400, then 1 is added to this, resulting in what can be called the "elemental damage multiplier". This number is what the Psynergies' damage is multiplied by. For example, if an Adept with an Attack rating of 300 and a Venus Power of 150 casts Troll on a monster with a defense of 100 and a Venus Resistance of 50:
Therefore, a Troll cast under these circumstances would deal approximately 181 points of damage. |
Availability
The Wild Wolf series is unique to the Tamer class series. The Tamer class series is available by equipping the Trainer's Whip. Thus, any Adept can obtain the series so long as the Trainer's Whip is available. However, as of the release of Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, only Golden Sun: The Lost Age allows access to the Trainer's Whip.
All four Psynergies in the series are learned at Level 1. However, only Wild Wolf is available at first: Many Psynergies are only available to the more advanced versions of a class, and Orc, Dinox, and Troll are no exception. What separates the Wild Wolf series from most Psynergies is that the weaker stages of the series are replaced by stronger stages as an Adept progresses through the class. Wild Wolf is available to the Tamer, while Orc is available to the Trainer. Dinox is available to the Beastkeeper, while Troll is available to the Beast Lord. In order to progress to the higher stages of the Tamer class, the Adept in question must obtain increasing numbers of Djinn in the three elements that are not aligned with the Adept's natural element.
Analysis
The Wild Wolf series is equivalent in power to other physical elemental attacks like Ragnarok, Heat Wave, and Diamond Dust, but at half the cost. Since all Psynergies in the series retain the same PP cost, the series becomes more efficient as the Adept progresses. As the Tamer levels up, it is outclassed by stronger Psynergies available to the Tamer. However, the Tamer's low PP pool means the series becomes more efficient, and is valuable for conservation of PP. However, the lower added damage means it is better equipped for random battles as opposed to boss battles.
Trivia
- With the absence of the Orc enemy line in Lost Age, this Psynergy set marks the Orc's sole appearance in the game.
