SummonIconMeteor.gif Meteor (メテオ, Meteo) is a Summon of the Mars element. The Meteor summon is one of sixteen summons that is automatically granted to the player as soon as the required Djinn are assembled.

Basic Characteristics

For a successful summoning of Meteor, the player must have four Mars Djinn on standby. When used, Meteor has a base Mars power of 240 and also does additional damage equivalent to 12% of the enemy’s maximum HP. After a successful summoning, the Mars Power of the summoner will rise by 100 points

Meteor's appearance in Dark Dawn. Specifically, the image that sends out the rock itself.

In Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Meteor resembles a gargantuan flaming rock from outer space, falling onto the battlefield in a blinding explosion. In Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, the sequence is expanded, showing a larger asteroid being shot from an asteroid belt. While falling through the atmosphere, the asteroid breaks up, with one large flaming rock eventually striking the enemies.

Analysis

Out of the Mars-aligned summons, Meteor is likely to see the most use, and is one of the more widely used of all summons. It is twice as powerful as Tiamat and four times as powerful as Kirin while only using twice the amount of standby Djinn of Kirin. Meteor is commonly used against bosses with Mars-weaknesses, such as Poseidon. However, Mars-weak bosses are few in number in the later games, and thus Meteor may see fewer uses in comparison to Judgment, Thor, and Boreas. In the later games, Meteor is largely outclassed in power by Daedalus and Iris. However, these two summons can only be acquired after completing certain challenges. On the other hand, Meteor is a fairly straightforward method of damage, and thus will still see use.

Cultural references

Origin: Astronomy

In astronomy, the term Meteor specifically refers to the visible path of a meteoroid during its decent through the atmosphere, i.e. the flaming portion of the meteoroid.

While Meteor is not in any specific mythology, meteors are considered a possible end of the world. Meteors are sometimes considered a sign of coming misfortune, as the Aztec people saw a meteor before the arrival of the Spaniards.

It's Japanese name, Meteo, is a common shortening of the word in Japanese RPGs such as Final Fantasy.

In addition, in Dark Dawn, the summon sequence features a Constellation that may be understood as the Summoned deity that sends the Meteor.
