Pixie Psynergy set
The Pixie Psynergy set are a series of Mercury-based Support-class Psynergy featured in Golden Sun: The Lost Age.
Basic Description
The Pixie Psynergies restore a set amount of Hit Points to a single Adept that has not fallen. When used, only members of the actively battling party can be targeted. The amount of HP recovered depends on the Mercury Power of the caster, as well as the actually Psynergy being used. Unlike other restorative Psynergies, the Pixie Psynergies cannot be used in the field.
Pixie |
Mercury | 5 PP |
"Conjure pixies to restore 115 HP." (TLA-present) | A single targeted party member recovers around 115 HP. |
Faery |
Mercury | 5 PP |
"Conjure faeries to restore 120 HP." (TLA-present) | A single targeted party member recovers around 120 HP. |
Weird Nymph |
Mercury | 5 PP |
"Conjure pixies to restore 125 HP." (TLA-present) | A single targeted party member recovers around 125 HP. |
Visually, each stage of the series features the caster summoning a monster to the battlefield, with the monster corresponding with the name of the Psynergy being used. The monster will then heal the targeted party member, shown as blue sparks of energy entering the party member. It should be noted that the Weird Nymph Psynergy features the only appearance of the Weird Nymph monster, under normal circumstances, in The Lost Age.
Recovery calculation
As previously stated, the exact strength of the Pixie Psynergies depend on the caster's Mercury Power. To be specific, the outcome can be represented with the following formula:
- HP restored = Base HP recovery rating * (Power / 100)
The caster's Mercury Power is divided by 100 and multiplied by the base HP restored; the Power rating is effectively treated as an exact percentage. As a result, an Adept with less than 100 Mercury Power would heal less than the advertised amount of HP, while an Adept with more than 100 Mercury Power would heal more. If an Adept has 124 Mercury Power, the Psynergy literally heals 24% more than what is listed in the game. The highest any Power rating can reach is 200, so if the user has 200 Mercury Power, the healing potency of all stages of the Pixie set is doubled.
Availability
The Pixie Psynergy set is unique to the Tamer class series, an Item-dependent class accessed by equipping the Trainer's Whip to an appropriate Adept. Since the Trainer's Whip is currently only available in The Lost Age, access to the set is limited to the eight playable Adepts of that game.
All three stages of the series are learned at Level 7. However, the series is not available to the initial Tamer stage of the class. Instead, the Adept in question must progress among the Tamer class by Setting increasing numbers of Djinn belonging to the three elements other than the Adept's own. Pixie is available to the Trainer stage, Faery to the Beastkeeper stage, and Weird Nymph to the Beast Lord stage.
Analysis
Each stage of the Pixie series functions as a slightly stronger, yet slightly more expensive version of the Ply Psynergy. Since all three stages share the same PP cost, the efficiency of the series increases over time. However, since the increase is not high, the series is much more useful in earlier portions of the game. However, like all Psynergies belonging to the Tamer, use is severely limited by the low PP pool. Thus, the Tamer will usually be attacking rather than wasting PP on support moves.
