The Meditation Rod (さとりのツエ, Satori Rod?) is a Staff-class weapon found in Golden Sun: The Lost Age.

Basic Description[edit]

The Meditation Rod increases the wielder's base Attack rating by 150 points. It can be sold for 10050 coins, and subsequently re-bought for 13400 coins.

The Meditation Rod is found in a treasure chest in Jupiter Lighthouse, in a large room featuring lots of elevated platforms to hop across, and can be equipped by Ivan, Mia, Jenna, and Sheba. Its Unleash effect is Nirvana, which is effectively a standard physical attack that adds 50 damage points and then modifies the resulting damage based on the user's Jupiter power and the target's Jupiter resistance. It may also add 10% of the damage done to the user's own PP meter. Nirvana visually resembles an intersecting pair of rotating rings of purple energy exiting the target and entering the user.

Analysis[edit]

It is usually is a good weapon for Ivan or Sheba, since they have high Jupiter power to back up Nirvana. Both Adepts are Psynergy users by nature, so the extra PP is always welcome. Because of its location in the Jupiter Lighthouse, casual players will most likely find it without going out of their way. Because Ivan is capable of equipping Light Blades, while Sheba cannot, the Rod will generally be in Sheba's possession for the latter part of the game. However, if the player is lucky enough to get the Rising Mace as a dropped item, it will be a slight improvement for Sheba over the Meditation Rod.

Cultural References[edit]

The Meditation Rod's unleash is a reference to the Buddhist concept of enlightenment (no relevance to the band of the same name).

Satori can mean either enlightenment, or refer to the mind-reading Satori of Japanese mythology.
