Zelda Allusion

There's already Zelda references in TLA, and the Japanese translation of Demon Spear could be a reference to Fierce Deity Link, from Majora's Mask. Possibly trivia worthy? I'm not too certain. Phimi (talk) 16:49, 31 March 2013 (CDT)Reply[reply]

I don't know enough to comment, but my first instinct on that is that there's some sort of "Fierce Diety" concept in Japanese myth that the Fierce Deity mask from Majora's Mask and this Psynergy separately refer to, rather than referring to each other in any way... Yeah, it's kinda separate. Denshi Jishou gives the translation as closer to "Sword of the Fierce God," but the better translation for Angel Spear's Japanese name is "Sword of the Celestial Being." I opted for a compromise in my Japanese translation here, as it was obvious in the inferred relationship between the two Psynergies, that they're referring to two different classes of the same being, and I didn't want to give the impression that the "Fierce God" was of a higher divinity status than the "Celestial Being" – hence the more neutral "Deity" usage. This is evident in the names – Ki-shin and Ten-jin. The "Shin" part of Kishin is essentially the same as the "Jin" part of Tenjin, but the Ki part refers to an Ogre, Devil, or Ghost (In-fact, the Kunyomi reading of 鬼 is Oni, while the Onyomi is Ki), while the Ten part refers to the Heavens. So one is a Deity of Evil, and the other is a Deity of the Heavens. Interestingly, Kishin is also the common reading of the kanji used for the Fierce Deity from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask; however, Kishin is a rather commonly used word in Japanese to refer to a class of demon-like gods in Shintoism and Japanese Buddhism, similar to the classic Ogre-like Oni but more powerful and regal – a God of the Oni, as it were, like say, Raijin the Thunder God (who is depicted as an Oni, but is clearly of a different calibre than the stupid, club-wielding ogres of the underworld). Both Majora's Mask's Fierce Deity Mask and the Demon Spear Psynergy refer to this class of divinity. Wewh.Marandahir (talk) 10:00, 6 April 2013 (CDT)Reply[reply]
