Hi guys. I couldn't really find a good place to have the discussion, and I figured I would need a space to make my examples for it anyways so here we are. I would like to redesign the Vendor section on town pages. (For reference: Kaocho#Vendors) I'd really like to split that table mess up and make a simpler template for it, and update the visual style of it while I'm at it. I suggest subheadings for different shops and seperate tables/templates for each shop. I think that the end result would be better organized and easier to sort through. I went looking for examples for this idea. Here are my results: wikibound:New_Pork_City#Shops_and_businesses, bulbapedia:Nimbasa_City#Pok.C3.A9_Mart, and dragonquest:Hamlin#Armor_Shop ~ dkpat (talk) 18:49, 3 December 2012 (CST)Reply[reply]

I wouldn't object to splitting the shops, but are you going to keep the Artifact header? The World's Hungriest Paperweight (talk) 20:32, 3 December 2012 (CST)Reply[reply]
I hope to keep an Artifacts section, I just need to figure out how to do it. I could just make it a section much how the current templates do I suppose. Nothing wrong with that. I'm likely to keep these templates semi complicated too, as in it won't be a single template for a single table, but it will be slightly easier, and look less scary. ~ dkpat (talk) 01:30, 4 December 2012 (CST)Reply[reply]
I like it so far, although the stripe of green amidst all the blue is a bit distracting. Then again, I don't know exactly what colors you have to work with, so... The World's Hungriest Paperweight (talk) 20:01, 4 December 2012 (CST)Reply[reply]
yeah... Let's take a look over at the color conversation before we go much further here, since it is likely (hopefully) to have an effect on the colors for this. ~ dkpat (talk) 01:50, 5 December 2012 (CST)Reply[reply]

Wow, looks spiffy.

Really like how the new table looks, even this early. Can't wait to see what all you do with it, as well as the implementation. Rolina (talk) 01:01, 4 December 2012 (CST)Reply[reply]

Post Color Discussion

Okay, so here we are, post-color discussions (I believe) and I think we're going to use the green color set for these boxes? ~ dkpat (talk) 12:27, 11 January 2013 (CST)Reply[reply]

I don't see anything wrong with what's in the sandbox right now, if the green parts in there is what you're referring to... Erik the Appreciator (talk) 17:58, 11 January 2013 (CST)Reply[reply]

Inconsistencies between Towns

I just looked through a few different town pages, and there are inconsistencies between where the vendor sections are placed. Some have it as a 3rd level heading underneath of a Description heading, while most others have it as a 2nd level heading of it's own. This does affect this work since these now have their own headings. Can we decide on a format for the town pages? EDIT: We also have the issue of Kolima_Village... ~ dkpat (talk) 11:05, 13 March 2013 (CDT)Reply[reply]

I would opt for making it a second-level section. I mean, the vendors really don't have anything to do with the town's description (which is sometimes actually called "Story"). Not sure what to do about Kolima, though... Wait, why do the shop templates have headings? The World's Hungriest Paperweight (talk) 14:11, 13 March 2013 (CDT)Reply[reply]
I liked the way it looked. I don't think that's it's necessary to have them as one giant table, and separating them out into three tables by shop, while giving each shop it's own heading just seemed like a really nice idea to me. Unfortunately I'm not sure that it's even something that I can do anymore, thanks to Kolima. ~ dkpat (talk) 13:12, 14 March 2013 (CDT)Reply[reply]
No, I get separating the table into weapons, armor, and items like that. I'm just not sure that giving them built-in headings is the best idea. As Kolima makes clear, we can't always predict what level of headings will be in use in the future. Besides, it's not really necessary (convenient, perhaps, but not necessary). Readers can just click on "Vendors" or "Shops" or whatever in the table of contents and then scroll down to the shop they need. I doubt many shops will get so long that simple scrolling won't be a practical solution.
Although, would it be possible to add headings manually on the individual articles? (Within the tables, I mean.) The World's Hungriest Paperweight (talk) 14:00, 14 March 2013 (CDT)Reply[reply]
Soon after I thought it wouldn't work, I recalled an easy way for it to work with the headings. Simply make the heading level a variable that defaults to 3. It can then be changed when needed. Although, part of the reason for the headings is because the style applied to 3rd level headings works out well in the tables. Which would create a problem when the level is changed, though I guess I could manually specify the styles to be applied. I don't see any harm in having headings in the shops, It's honestly more a problem with the town pages not being consistent than it is with the templates not being good. The pages should be consistent, which would make this not a problem, except in the case of Kolima, which can easily be remedied with the variable heading level setup. ~ dkpat (talk) 15:15, 14 March 2013 (CDT)Reply[reply]
A heading variable? Yeah, that sounds like it would work. And yeah, I know that the problem is with the articles, not the tables. It's just that, since there's no predicting when and where this might happen again, we need a non-static solution (which we appear to have now). If anyone would like to change an aspect of the design for the new Vendor sections, speak now or forever hold your peace ~ dkpat (talk) 13:27, 16 March 2013 (CDT)Reply[reply]
