SummonIconThor.gif Thor (トール, Thor) is a Summon of the Jupiter element. The Thor summon is one of sixteen summons that is automatically granted to the player as soon as the required Djinn are assembled.

Basic Characteristics

For a successful summoning of Thor, the player must have four Jupiter Djinn on standby. When used, Thor has a base Jupiter power of 240 and also does additional damage equivalent to 12% of the enemy’s maximum HP. After a successful summoning, the Jupiter Power of the summoner will rise by 100 points

When Thor is summoned in Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age, a circular magical seal bearing the Rune meaning "giant", glowing with rainbow light, forms in the midst of dark clouds and shoots down to the battlefield in the form of a lightning bolt, which the famed Viking god emerges from. He then proceeds to use his lightning hammer, Mjollnir (which has the same Runic symbol that appears at the start of the animation), to blast lightning upon the opposing party.

Thor's appearance in Dark Dawn

In Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, the Thor summon sequence is altered. Thor's beard is changed from blonde to a bold red color. When summoned, Thor will fly through the sky riding on his giant hammer. Thor then freefalls through the clouds high above the ground, and with a wave of his right arm, he transforms his hammer falling above him into a giant spark plug. He then grabs onto it with his right arm and hurls it down to the ground at the feet of the enemy forces with extreme velocity. The metal bolt slams onto the ground and lets loose lots of purple electricity.

Analysis

Out of the automatically acquired summons, Thor is the strongest Jupiter-aligned summon. Though there are stronger Jupiter-based summons, these summons must be specifically acquired while exploring the world. Because of this, Thor is one of the most commonly used summons, Jupiter-based or otherwise. It is twice as powerful as Procne and four times as powerful as Atalanta and uses only 2 times the amount of Djinn on standby as Atalanta does. Thor is especially useful in boss battles, since there are few major bosses in the series with a high resistance towards Jupiter-based offenses.

Cultural references

Origin: Norse Mythology (Scandinavia)

Thor in Norse mythology was the god of lightning and enemy of many monsters, especially the Frost Giants and the Trolls. During the Ragnarok, however, he and Jormungandr, the world serpent, would kill each other.

Traditionally, Thor is described as having red hair, as depicted in Dark Dawn. However, Thor is also a popular Marvel Comics superhero and member of The Avengers – in which he's consistently depicted with blond hair instead, as seen in The Lost Age.

Thor is also usually considered the son of Odin or Wodan.
