The term Colosso Gladiators, while used to describe any warrior that competes in the Colosso competitions, also refers to any of the eight finalists that compete in the Colosso Finals. Among them, one is a playable character (Isaac) and three are potential opponents that can appear in both Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age.

Colosso is the premier tournament of warriors across Weyard and is where all warriors dream of proving their valor. Warriors who win well at Colosso gain reputation that will help them contract jobs as mercenaries. Babi's advertised purpose of holding the Colosso tournament is to find capable warriors that can work well as his personal bodyguards and palace soldiers. Residents of Tolbi also get to play a lottery-style game called Lucky Guess during each year's Colosso where they bet on which of the Colosso gladiators will win the championship, similar to real-world horse racing betting.

In Golden Sun, in the episode where Isaac is entered into the Colosso Finals by Colosso's organizer Babi, Isaac will end up defeating Azart and Satrage in the first and second matches of the finals, and when he battles Colosso's toughest opponent, Navampa, he may either win or lose the battle and still progress with the story. If he wins Colosso, he will receive the victor's prize, a Lure Cap, and if this game file is saved as a completed data file and used for data transfer into The Lost Age, Isaac will have attained a degree of fame and the three gladiators he defeated will gather and suspect that Isaac's seemingly impossible victory over them must have been rigged.

The three gladiators who lost to Isaac previously show up in Shaman Village Cave for a rematch.

Late in The Lost Age, when Isaac's travelling party has joined forces with Felix, the trio of gladiators eventually catch up to Isaac's group within Shaman Village Cave in Hesperia, declaring that they want to pay him back, but as it is a three-against-eight battle for them, their second defeat at Isaac's hands is pretty much a given. Navampa, Satrage, and Azart will acknowledge Isaac's warrior abilities as valid and make it up to him by giving him a treasure they found earlier in the cave, the unique Golden Shirt.

Morgan

MiniMorgan.png

Morgan (モルガン Morgan) is a gladiator in blue armor who placed first in the Colosso trials. He is aspiring to win Colosso like many others, and is not abrasive in personality. In an ironic twist, however, in the Colosso Finals he loses early on and is not able to appear as one of the three opponents Isaac battles.

In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, if Isaac won against Colosso and the file is used as data transfer, Morgan will be present at the second floor of the Inn in Madra, along with Dekka. What he says about Colosso to Felix, however, appears to be a mistranslation, saying that he "hears" there's a competition called Colosso and that he's planning to enter it; he says that as if he was made aware of Colosso's existence only recently, when it's obvious he competed and lost in the last Colosso in the previous Golden Sun. (One could assume instead that Morgan intentionally blocked his loss out of his memory and is merely pretending that he's going to compete legitimately good for the first time, though there is nothing in the games that can prove this.)

Azart

Azart.png

Azart (アザート Azart) is a gladiator in gold armor who placed second in the Colosso trials. He is also an aspiring warrior, and speaks more casually than the others. He is Isaac's first opponent in the Colosso Finals as his opponent in Colosseum Final 1; as such he is less powerful in battle than his peers Satrage and Navampa. He is of a standard size for a human when fought.

In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, if Isaac won against Colosso and the file is used as data transfer, Azart and his two peers Satrage and Navampa will appear to greet you in Shaman Village Cave after Isaac's party has joined forces with Felix's late in the game. Azart agrees with the other two that Isaac shouldn't have been able to win against established warriors like them, and he and the others wage a battle together against Isaac and Felix's whole party in an attempt at a rematch, perhaps somewhat foolishly because they are defeated easily. Azart apologizes to Isaac like the others, and as he leaves with the other two he remarks that maybe they'll see Isaac there at the next Colosso they'll compete at.

Galahad

MiniGalahad.png

Galahad (ガラハド Galahad) is a gladiator in dark purple armor who placed third in the Colosso trials. He is a very nervous individual who is easily excitable, and waits anxiously for the Colosso Finals to begin so he can get it over with. This personality is likely why he does not win over the other warriors to end up battling Isaac. His only appearance is when he is up against a wall thinking to himself, and lets out a yelp if Isaac talk to him and keeps facing him afterwards wherever Isaac walks around the room. His nature is in direct contrast to his name, which is the name of one of the Knights of the Round Table in Arthurian legend.

In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, if Isaac won against Colosso and the file is used as data transfer, Felix's party will meet him in Mikasalla. He will explain to Felix that he is trying to find Isaac and warn him that Azart, Satrage, and Navampa are out for revenge against him. In this aspect, one could conclude that he does match his namesake, Sir Galahad of King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table.

Satrage

Satrage.png

Satrage (サトレージ Satrage) is a gladiator in light yellowish green armor who placed fourth in the Colosso trials. He is a more thoughtful and concentrated warrior. He is Isaac's second opponent in the Colosso Finals as his opponent in Colosseum Final 2; as such he is better in battle than his earlier peer Azart but is not as strong as Navampa. When fought in the Colosso Finals in Golden Sun he is slightly larger than Azart, but if fought in Shaman Village Cave in Golden Sun: The Lost Age his size will have decreased to the exact level of Azart, which may be a design oversight.

In The Lost Age, if Isaac won Colosso and the file is used as data transfer, Satrage and his two peers Azart and Navampa will have caught up to you in Shaman Village Cave after Isaac's party has joined forces with Felix's late in the game. Satrage agrees with the other two that the comparatively scrawny Isaac shouldn't have been able to win against professional warriors like them, and he and the others wage a battle together against Isaac and Felix's whole party in an attempt at a rematch, perhaps somewhat foolishly because they are defeated easily. Satrage apologizes to Isaac like the others, and as he leaves with the other two he remarks that hopefully they will be strong enough to win for real at the next Colosso.

Dekka

MiniDekka.png

Dekka (デッカ Dekka) is a gladiator in cyan armor who placed fifth in the Colosso trials. He is very determined and dedicated to his goal of winning Colosso, enough that when he is seen in the warrior's lobby in Golden Sun he is too focused on psyching himself up for the match to take notice of Isaac if Isaac tries to talk to him. (His lines to himself are in the third person and consist of "Dekka must win the finals. Dekka. Dekka...) Navampa will speak to Isaac in Dekka's place and will express his opinion that the Colosso Finals cannot be won that easily; this opinion appears to ring true because Dekka loses the Colosso Finals tournament before he can be set up as an opponent against Isaac. Dekka also likes looking out windows.

In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, if Isaac won against Colosso and the file is used as data transfer, Dekka will be present at the second floor of the Inn in Madra, along with Morgan, and he announces to Felix his determination to defeat the gladiator Isaac at the next Colosso.

Navampa

Navampa.png

Navampa (ナヴァンバ Navampa) is a gladiator in violet armor who placed sixth in the Colosso trials. Hailing from Gondowan, Navampa is a more serious warrior who is not easily excitable, but despite his placing in the preliminaries he proves the strongest of the Colosso Gladiators other than Isaac. He is Isaac's third and final opponent in the Colosso Finals as his opponent in Colosseum Final 3; as such he is better in battle than either of his previous peers Azart and Satrage. When fought in the Colosso Finals in Golden Sun he is slightly larger than Satrage and thus noticeably larger than Azart, but if fought in Shaman Village Cave in Golden Sun: The Lost Age his size will have decreased to the exact level of Azart and Satrage, which may be a design oversight.

In The Lost Age, if Isaac won against Colosso and the file is used as data transfer, Navampa and his two peers Azart and Satrage will stumble upon you in Shaman Village Cave after Isaac's party has joined forces with Felix's late in the game. Navampa agrees with the other two that there is no way the young Isaac could have trounced big warriors like them so thoroughly without cheating, and he and the others wage a battle together against Isaac and Felix's whole party in an attempt at a rematch, perhaps somewhat foolishly because they are defeated easily. Navampa apologizes to Isaac like the others, and he places on the ground for Isaac to pick up the Golden Shirt they found in a chest in the cave earlier as thanks for when Isaac accepts

Buford

MiniBuford.png

Buford (ビウホード Buford) is a gladiator in black armor who placed seventh in the Colosso trials. In spite of his placing (or perhaps because of it), he is hopeful and considers all warriors to have equal chances of winning the day. Nonetheless, Buford is not able to win enough matches at Colosso to be set up as Isaac's opponent in a match, making him perhaps the least noteworthy of the gladiators. Unlike all the other Colosso participants, he doesn't make a cameo appearance in Golden Sun: The Lost Age via the transfer feature.

Isaac

MiniIsaac.png

Isaac (ロビン Robin) is the main character of the overall Golden Sun series, and the player's playable avatar throughout the first game. Isaac, hailing from Vale in Angara, journeyed to Altmiller Cave and rescued the lord of Tolbi and the Colosso festival, Babi, from an eventual death, using his Venus Psynergy powers to enhance his warrior skills. This catches Babi's eye enough that he decides to personally register Isaac in the Colosso Finals so that he may observe the full extent of Isaac's capabilities. This is unprecedented in Colosso history because Isaac never participated in the Colosso trials like the other gladiators, which comes as somewhat outrageous to some. For entering only the Colosso finals as Babi's favored warrior, Isaac is technically registered as the contestant who placed eighth in the Colosso preliminaries.

Isaac does startlingly well in the Colosso finals, winning the first two Finals matches against his opponents Azart and Satrage, but people do not realize that his warrior skills are being fueled by his magical powers as a Venus Adept. His toughest battle is waged at the end of the third Finals match against Navampa, and he may possibly lose, but in the event Isaac defeats Navampa and wins the title of Colosso champion, he will gain a degree of fame and create some partially vengeful rivals who will eventually conclude that Isaac must have cheated somehow.
