Stone Soldier enemy line
The Stone Soldier, Boulder Beast, and Raging Rock are enemies that are randomly battled in Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age. These monsters, resembling a spike ball with eyes and feet, are palette swaps of each other that have differing levels of power and defense and are fought at different locations in the games.

[edit] In Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age
[edit] Stone Soldier
A Stone Soldier (ランニングロック Running Rock) is a slight turquoise variant with tan feet, and it is level 22 in Golden Sun and level 28 in The Lost Age. In Golden Sun, Stone Soldiers are battled randomly in the Suhalla Desert; two also appear in a scripted mini-boss battle alongside the Lizard King in front of the fifth dungeon floor of the optional Crossbone Isle. In The Lost Age, they are randomly battled inside Tundaria Tower and the earlier, easier portions of the optional Treasure Isle and Islet Cave dungeons.
Dynamite, rarely used as it is, can make the Stone Soldier surprisingly powerful and dangerous among monsters even though it is statistically weaker than the monsters it is fought alongside in both games (though it has the highest Defense rating of the monsters in each area other than Treasure Isle). Its Headbutts are also rather damaging. It is worth taking out Stone Soldiers first in a given battle, but preferably using area of effect Mercury Psynergy. Note that a quarter of the time, it will attempt to cast Mad Blast but fail in doing so because its maximum PP meter is not high enough, and once it has cast the weaker Blast Psynergy once, it will attempt and fail to cast that again even though its PP meter is only sufficient for one usage.
A Stone Soldier's statistics are as follows:
| Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
| Stone Soldier | 179 | 6 | 241 | 105 | 104 | 5 |
| Elemental Resistances | Turns | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate | |
| |
1 | 98 | 98 | |
1/32 | |
A Stone Soldier uses these battle commands:
| Command | Chance to use | Elem. Stats used with * | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blast | 2/8 (25%) |
{{{command1usedwith}}} | Psynergy costing 5 PP that creates a small, fairly liquid explosion at the party's position. Deals a Mars-aligned attack with a power rating of 25 and a range of 3. Stone Soldier uses this with a Mars elemental power rating of 125. |
| Mad Blast | 2/8 (25%) |
{{{command2usedwith}}} | Psynergy costing 9 PP that creates a somewhat larger, fairly liquid explosion at the party's position. Deals a Mars-aligned attack with a power rating of 50 and a range of 3. Stone Soldier would use this with a Mars elemental power rating of 125, but it does not have enough PP for the execution of this to carry out successfully. |
| Headbutt | 2/8 (25%) |
{{{command3usedwith}}} | Enemy ability where the user charges forward shrouded in glowing red aura and rams a targeted Adept. Deals a Mars-aligned attack equal to its normal physical attack with an additional 60 damage points. Stone Soldier uses this with a Mars elemental power rating of 125. |
| Dynamite | 1/8 (12.5%) |
{{{command4usedwith}}} | Enemy ability where the user leaps forward into the party and disappears in a massive explosion. Deals a Venus-aligned attack with a power rating of 200 and a range of 3. Stone Soldier uses this with a Venus elemental power rating of 95. This attack removes the user from the battle in a way that it is not counted as "felled" (you don't get its EXP and coins). |
| Attack | 1/8 (12.5%) |
{{{command5usedwith}}} | Standard physical attack. |
[edit] Boulder Beast
A Boulder Beast (ボンバーロック Bomber Rock) is a violet level 27 variant with tan feet. In Golden Sun it is battled in the later "dungeon" portion of Venus Lighthouse as one of the "final" random monsters of the game.
The Boulder Beast continues the theme of its predecessor, but is even more dangerous, so continue dealing with groups of it with Mercury Psynergy and maybe Venus and Jupiter Psynergy if necessary.
A Boulder Beast's statistics are as follows:
| Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
| Boulder Beast | 211 | 14 | 327 | 137 | 140 | 6 |
| Elemental Resistances | Turns | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate | |
| |
1 | 278 | 164 | |
1/128 | |
A Boulder Beast uses these battle commands:
| Command | Chance to use | Elem. Stats used with * | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mad Blast | 3/8 (37.5%) |
{{{command1usedwith}}} | Psynergy costing 9 PP that creates a somewhat larger, fairly liquid explosion at the party's position. Deals a Mars-aligned attack with a power rating of 50 and a range of 3. Boulder Beast uses this with a Mars elemental power rating of 125. |
| Headbutt | 2/8 (25%) |
{{{command2usedwith}}} | Enemy ability where the user charges forward shrouded in glowing red aura and rams a targeted Adept. Deals a Mars-aligned attack equal to its normal physical attack with an additional 60 damage points. Boulder Beast uses this with a Mars elemental power rating of 125. |
| Attack | 2/8 (25%) |
{{{command3usedwith}}} | Standard physical attack. |
| Dynamite | 1/8 (12.5%) |
{{{command4usedwith}}} | Enemy ability where the user leaps forward into the party and disappears in a massive explosion. Deals a Venus-aligned attack with a power rating of 200 and a range of 3. Boulder Beast uses this with a Venus elemental power rating of 95. This attack removes the user from the battle in a way that it is not counted as "felled" (you don't get its EXP and coins). |
[edit] Raging Rock
A Raging Rock (ダイナマイトロック Dynamite Rock) is a brown level 33 variant with violet feet. In The Lost Age it is battled at Magma Rock.
The Raging Rock continues the theme of its predecessors in much the same way, though its HP is even lower. The fact that by the time you fight it you have a total of eight Adepts in your party lowers its threat value somewhat even if it uses Dynamite, and it should be very easy to dispatch before it can use Dynamite regardless.
Although the Raging Rock does not appear in Golden Sun, it exists in the code of the game with its name and abilities, but none of its statistics coded beyond weak placeholder stats.
A Raging Rock's statistics are as follows:
| Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
| Raging Rock | 186 | 20 | 312 | 180 | 173 | 6 |
| Elemental Resistances | Turns | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate | |
| |
1 | 401 | 209 | |
1/32 | |
A Raging Rock uses these battle commands:
| Command | Chance to use | Elem. Stats used with * | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiery Blast | 4/8 (50%) |
{{{command1usedwith}}} | Psynergy costing 19 PP that creates a larger, fairly liquid explosion at the party's position. Deals a Mars-aligned attack with a power rating of 110 and a range of 5. Raging Rock uses this with a Mars elemental power rating of 125. |
Raging Rock uses this with a Mars elemental power rating of 125. |
| Attack | 1/8 (12.5%) |
{{{command3usedwith}}} | Standard physical attack. |
| Dynamite | 1/8 (12.5%) |
{{{command4usedwith}}} | Enemy ability where the user leaps forward into the party and disappears in a massive explosion. Deals a Venus-aligned attack with a power rating of 200 and a range of 3. Raging Rock uses this with a Venus elemental power rating of 95. This attack removes the user from the battle in a way that it is not counted as "felled" (you don't get its EXP and coins). |
