Spider enemy line
The Spider (スパイダー), Tarantula (タランチュラ), and Recluse (ポイズンスパイダー Poison Spider) are enemies that are randomly fought throughout each game in the Golden Sun series. These monsters, resembling real-life tarantulas, are palette swaps of each other that have differing levels of power and defense and are fought in different locations in the games.

[edit] In Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age
[edit] Spider
A Spider is a normal-sized variant with a yellowish-orange abdomen and red legs, and is level 8 in Golden Sun and level 11 in The Lost Age. In Golden Sun, Spiders are found in Tret Tree. In The Lost Age, they are only fought in Yampi Desert.
Spiders are generally "small" enemies in where they are fought in both games, being weaker, slower, and less durable than most of the random monsters that are also fought in their areas.
A Spider's statistics are as follows:
| Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
| Spider | 69 | 0 | 75 | 22 | 22 | 1 |
| Elemental Resistances | Turns | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate | |

1 | 25 | 32 | |
1/16 | |
A Spider uses these battle commands:
| Command | Chance to use | Elem. Stats used with * | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attack | 5/8 (62.5%) |
{{{command1usedwith}}} | Standard physical attack. |
| Spider Web | 3/8 (37.5%) |
{{{command2usedwith}}} | Enemy ability that projects an image of a compact spider web at the position of a targeted Adept, and the target's Defense rating may be temporarily lowered by 25%. |
[edit] Tarantula
A Tarantula is a normal-sized level 13 variant with a yellowish-green abdomen and light green legs. In Golden Sun, they can be fought in the lower levels of Altin Peak.
Even though its attack rating is practically as high as a Rat Warrior, the Tarantula is still weaker than other monsters in the other statistical areas, so it should not be difficult to deal even with large groups of these with area-of-effect offensive Psynergy.
A Tarantula's statistics are as follows:
| Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
| Tarantula | 108 | 0 | 144 | 30 | 52 | 5 |
| Elemental Resistances | Turns | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate | |

|---|---|---|---|

{{{command1usedwith}}} | Standard physical attack. |
| Spider Web | 2/8 (25%) |
{{{command2usedwith}}} | Enemy ability that projects an image of a compact spider web at the position of a targeted Adept, and the target's Defense rating may be temporarily lowered by 25%. |
| Poison Fang | 2/8 (25%) |
{{{command3usedwith}}} | Enemy ability where a glowing green holographic image of a pair of jaws chomps at the position of a targeted Adept once. Deals a Venus-aligned attack equal to its normal physical attack with an additional chance of inflicting Poison on the affected target. Tarantula uses this with a Venus elemental power rating of 95. |
[edit] Recluse
A Recluse is a larger level 27 variant with a violet abdomen and dark blue legs. Recluse can be fought in the later "dungeon" portion of Venus Lighthouse as one of the "final" random monsters of Golden Sun.
The Recluse continues the theme of its two predecessors, being the statistically lowest of the monsters in the area it is fought randomly throughout. It is certainly the easiest to deal with, even though you might fight rather large amounts of them at a time.
A Recluse's statistics are as follows:
| Name | HP | PP | Attack | Defense | Agility | Luck |
| Recluse | 221 | 0 | 323 | 122 | 109 | 4 |
| Elemental Resistances | Turns | Exp | Coins | Item Dropped | Drop Rate | |

{{{command1usedwith}}} | Standard physical attack. |
| Rabid Fang | 3/8 (37.5%) |
{{{command2usedwith}}} | Enemy ability where a glowing red holographic image of a pair of jaws chomps at the position of a targeted Adept once. Deals a Venus-aligned attack equal to its normal physical attack with an additional 36 damage points, and there is a chance of inflicting Deadly Poison on the affected target. Recluse uses this with a Venus elemental power rating of 95. |
| Spider Web | 2/8 (25%) |
{{{command3usedwith}}} | Enemy ability that projects an image of a compact spider web at the position of a targeted Adept, and the target's Defense rating may be temporarily lowered by 25%. |
