The Roc (ロックちょう, Chief Roc) and Raptor are enemies that are randomly battled in Golden Sun: The Lost Age. These monsters, resembling large winged birds standing on the ground, are palette swaps of each other that have differing levels of power and defense and are fought in different locations in the game.

[edit] Roc

Roc.png

A Roc is a level 24 variant with an orange head and crest and a purple beak. Rocs are fought throughout both the exterior and interior portions of Aqua Rock.

While the Roc only has moderate agility among the monsters it is fought alongside, in the exterior portion of Aqua Rock it has the best offenses and durability by quite fair margins. It has rather good EXP and coin rewards as well. Inside Aqua Rock, however, it is outperformed in these areas by the Sea Dragon.

A Roc's statistics are as follows:

Name HP PP Attack Defense Agility Luck
Roc 245 0 214 50 116 17
Elemental Resistances Turns Exp Coins Item Dropped Drop Rate
Star venus.gif 175   Star mercury.gif 100   Star mars.gif 72   Star jupiter.gif 25 1 238 193 Vial.gif Vial 1/16

A Roc uses these battle commands:

Command Chance to use Elem. Stats used with * Description
Attack 6/8
(75%)
{{{command1usedwith}}} Standard physical attack.
Wing Flutter 2/8
(25%)
{{{command2usedwith}}} Enemy ability that shoots out small sets of sharp glowing yellow plumage through multiple Adepts. Deals a Jupiter-aligned attack with a power rating of 70 and a range of 3 (the Adepts at either side of the specifically targeted Adept will only take 50% of the attack's force, instead of the normal 80%, however). Roc uses this with a Jupiter elemental power rating of 110.

[edit] Raptor

Raptor.png

A Raptor is a level 35 variant with a violet head and crest and a green beak. They are battled throughout Mars Lighthouse as one of the "final" random monsters of the mandatory game.

Among the other monsters fought throughout Mars Lighthouse, the Roc is only moderately high in every statistic, and it is sharply outperformed in all statistics by the Aka Manah.

A Raptor's statistics are as follows:

Name HP PP Attack Defense Agility Luck
Raptor 366 0 354 96 180 19
Elemental Resistances Turns Exp Coins Item Dropped Drop Rate
Star venus.gif 175   Star mercury.gif 100   Star mars.gif 72   Star jupiter.gif 25 1 521 295 None N/A

A Raptor uses these battle commands:

Command Chance to use Elem. Stats used with * Description
Attack 4/8
(50%)
{{{command1usedwith}}} Standard physical attack.
Wing Flutter 2/8
(25%)
{{{command2usedwith}}} Enemy ability that shoots out small sets of sharp glowing yellow plumage through multiple Adepts. Deals a Jupiter-aligned attack with a power rating of 70 and a range of 3 (the Adepts at either side of the specifically targeted Adept will only take 50% of the attack's force, instead of the normal 80%, however). Raptor uses this with a Jupiter elemental power rating of 110.
Twin Beaks 2/8
(25%)
{{{command3usedwith}}} Enemy ability where the user shoots two purple projectiles at a target Adept. Deals a Jupiter-aligned attack equal to its normal physical attack with an additional 30 damage points, and there is a chance that the resulting damage will be doubled. Raptor uses this with a Jupiter elemental power rating of 110.

[edit] Fell Raptor

Fell Raptor.png

Like with all other enemy lines introduced in The Lost Age that have apparently only two variants, a third palette swap variant to this line exists in the code of the game cart and was even given its own name, but has none of its stats and abilities coded beyond weak placeholder abilities. Had it been used it would have appeared as a variant with a turquoise head and crest and an orange beak named Fell Raptor.
